  • This is hard to watch! HBCU bands are much more entertaining!

  • I think that they played the song well....it's just of you are gonna play the song they should really get down with it like the HBCUs do. It was kind of boring since they slowed it down and I also though the dancers were stiff

  • LSU neck song is played in the cut, with a slow tempo. The only knock i have on it is that is basic in from the stand point that is just sounds like an 8bar/measure loop where they do not play anything else. Again it sounds goods.

I also would not say they stole it from SU, as several high school bands across the nation as well as various other HBCU bands play this song (each HBCU has their own specific version).

  • @CorporateFailure

Thats so funny friend.. The name of the song isn"t NECK". Thats the name Southern University gave the song to shorten it because the real name took to long to express while instructing the band.. So if LSU happen to call their verson of the song the same thing SU calls it for their personal reason. its seems to me that it was infact copied for Southern. As a matter of fact LSU copied this soung after the paraid of champions in 2003.

  • @CorporateFailure

As a matter of fact, LSU copied this song after The Parade of Champoins in 2003. Southern's band Director Dr. Greggs Directed both bands in the nation anthum and then Southern Broke out with "Talking Out the Side of Your NECK" which is the real name. LSU looked dumb founded and played those 5 0r 6 songs they always play. Then Southern put on a concert out there at the State Capital. We are in the process of getting the video for you all to see so hang tight.

  • @Exceptional555 I'm sorry, what is a "nation anthum?" You might be right, though. I'm sure after hearing SU and GSU play Neck, they wanted in on it too. But for the record, it wasn't until the 2006 season when they added it to the line up. I don't know what all this debate about calling it Neck instead of the whole title is. It's shorter and more recognizable. That's all. If SU patented the name then they'll be making alot of money off of every other band in the country.

  • @CorporateFailure

my bad! i idnt meant to spell that wrong. i meant to say "The Nation" .. short for " The Jaguar Nation" The First fan base to be called a nation.. inspired by "The Nation Of Islam"... Now to the rest of your statements. Your rite. If SU got copy rites to half of the stuff that folks have copied they would be pay. But Dr. Greggs always said that the "best form of Flattery is impersonation". That why the band always said "Often Imitated But Never Duplicated"

  • My sister is a Golden Girl.

  • they're nothing like the Dancing Dolls.. These chicks are too stiff...hahahahahaha!!! omg!!

  • @soupa22 lol,,, ive been laughin for how lng cause their neck is 2 slow and yur right they are stiff!

  • Where can i download this! put this on custom stadium sounds on ncaa 11

  • fo sum white boyz ya did pretty koo

  • Hahahahahaha White Boys got a lil Swagg im feelin it hell its better then Alabama State

  • A11 WHITE BAND

  • Uh oh look at the Golden Girls!!!!! Beautiful Ladies just beautiful!!!

  • It's awesome!!!! I don't give a fuck who did it.

  • Yall alright not to be a HBCU. Just pep up the steps and get louder with the vocals. Sound is tight though.

  • @songre35 i agree HBCU's rule and ASU has the best NECK. AS, AS, AS, AS, U!

  • @songre35 It's the same tempo that Cameo used. HBCU bands, who sound terrific, sped it up too much IMO. I like the slow, smooth vibe of LSU's version.

  • love da golden girls

  • LSU plays this very well. I like the way they have slowed it down a bit, and those horns are just killin' it! Great job!!!

  • I guess many people don't understand the point of band if you aren't in one. It is one of the last equal on all counts kind of activity. Also, music is universal and for everyone. You can not steal music from one band to the next unless the arrangement is specific to that school. DCI, BOA and HBCU styles of marching and playing music are different but all are great in their own right. Know the difference and quit cutting each other down.

  • always the same shit go get a fuckin job and add to th economy and quit talkin bout uckin bands ya bunch of fckin free loaders

  • LSU plays it better than sum of the HBCU's. They aint got nun on UAPB

  • that is true...but famu, nsu, jsu, or cookman have the best HBCU arrangements

  • I believe that cameo had the original version. So technically, whoever bites off him first is the original biter. Everything after that is just recycled garbage. Where did a race card get thrown in here? Music is music, black or white. Calm down people.

  • All you people hating on LSU for taking this from SU STFU!! LSU is not the only band to take songs from other bands. Every band does it and changes it to fit their their own style. Geaux Tigers!

  • I don't get why people make a big deal of LSU taking this from SU. Shouldn't that be a thing for SU to be proud of that LSU had to take a song from them because it was so good?

Granted, I think LSU has the better version of it because it's clearer... But that's all opinion.

Props to SU for this... Song... They should be honored by other bands trying to replicate it... Not arguing...

    Geaux Tigers! FOREVER L-S-U!

    And I love this song.

  • LSU = ELVIS

  • Hell yeah! LSU and Elvis are both Kings.

    Great analogy.

  • Kings of plagiarism. LMAO!

  • Class vs trash typical black outlook and as for the president great job our countries in more debt to the rest of he world than ever before.dont talk shit bout wat u dont know.LSU could actually care a shit ess bout su or there version the the damn song!!!!!!

  • Typical white Louisianian, the same people who elected a KKK member as a representative of there state. Lsu is trash, and without the blacks on the football team they would be trash. If Lsu could give a fuck about Southern, why are they stealing songs which have been played by HBCU bands for years?

  • Great Point! I think LSU version is ok but it is not on the Next Level as the HBCU's have it!!!

  • Fuck that. We was in a surplus till that dumbass president ya'll voted in (Bush) messed shit up. Don't blame that on Obama. And chill out wit the racist card

  • Black or White does not matter it's the spirit of football. This is one of the hypest band songs ever. It works either way....

  • Why does every LSU - Neck video turn into a Southern's band vs LSU band argument about who's better....but since its been brought up, I hate mindless horn blasting and classless "dancing"...LSU all the way.

  • @Fluke300 LSU SUCKS!

  • Good job but you dance girls need to take a look at the southern dolls for this song and then it would be perfect

  • WOW!!!!!! Im not sure how i feel about this.

  • THE DOLLS MUDERED THESE GIRL LOL HA!

  • The dolls wish dey could get known like dem golden girls. the dolls are all ugly. Now LOL dat bitch

  • This actually sound good for them to be a core style band they play like a show band

  • And LSU is WAYYY better at stomping a mudhole in LA Techs asshole. Suck it. Deal with it. Whatev. You suck.

  • southern grad...come on round the street for some lessons....yall aint got enough "SWANG" in it

  • su is a piece of shit show band that blast all the time.theyre not musical AT ALL

  • to say SU sound like shit how many times has LSU play for the opening game for the NEW ORLEANS SAINTS and how many time has LSU played for the PRESIDENT

  • im sure the saints or the president dont know what blasting a horn is or being dirty is.fail my friend:)

  • Not to be racist but... They majority if Saints fans are black, Southern is a black college. Our president is also black, again southern is a black college

  • Comment removed

  • you can't judge the golden girls off a stands song dance... watch a halftime show then talk

  • not only the band but the cheerleaders and danceline are dull,I PROMISE YOU THE DOLLS WOULD DO THEM IN

  • NO the dolls are ugly plus southern is only good at band but who cares bout dat

  • lsu sucks period bro.

    band and in sports.

  • then how come they got national championships and sec championships n every sport

  • While I'll agree that SU plays this song with a little more soul and swing, I still believe that LSU plays with a much better technical performance. If you listen to SU play, they tend to just blast as lound as they can, no dynamics, and lots of splatty brass. However, like I said I do think they put a lot more soul into the song non-the-less. I just can't stand all the old lady tiger fans now that throw their "bingo" arms up during the song just because they see the student section doing it.

  • thats the point dumbass.

I hate that try and hate hard. lsu is one of them.

  • lol @ the old lady comment! i TOTALLY agree with you. if SU had the tonality and musicality of LSU, combined with their own 'swag' in the way they play Neck, then SU would, hands down, be the better player of this song. however, they don't. LSU really does sound better. this debate has been going on for years; it's silly! the LSU and SU band directors are good friends anyway, i'm sure they don't care about whether or not the other school is better at playing it.

  • Bingo arms... That is great. I'm gonna have to use that one from now on. My wife calls them bus driver arms.

  • southern university marching band neck sounds better

  • Damn this song gives me chills. Nothing like being in the student section jamming to Neck.

  • My favorite LSU band song!!

I cant wait until fall ... I'll be there

  • I wonder how they decided to start playing Neck. It's nice that the song has a following amongst the fans and student body. Were they inspired by hearing HBCU bands playing it? Did the students arrange it and get it added to the list.

Just curious! Keep doing ya thang.

  • They Started playing it because of Southern University.. SU is the BCU in Baton Rouge along with LSU. Neck is SU' signature song, and when SU Ans LSU both won the conference Championships a few years ago, Baton Rouge had a big Parade, and thats when SU, and lsu got together and had a big'ol party in celebration. LSU played that song along with SU, and i guess they added it to the regular playlist after dat...

  • ughh better win today

  • fuck them bama hoes yall cant even beat flordia with saben!!

  • geaux tigers ohio state cant beat no SEC school

  • Yeah...another SEC school that plays bowl games in practically their home stadium, and then talks smack the rest of the year. It's almost as bad as USC playing at the Rose Bowl...

Let's see ya'll come north in January, and we'll see how you southerners fare ;). I only tease, and I mean it in fun.

  • I go to Prairie View and i'm in the band and i got to play against Southern and hear "Neck" and its very good, not to say that yalls isn't good, its the fact that its sounds different how yall have played it vs Southern plays it. Its a different style of playing. As for "Southern band sounds like crap" comment, maybe you should listen to this video again cause some of your trumpets cracked and carried over notes. So find your own faults before u point how "crappy" HBCU bands sound.

  • Please!!! Another Southern HATER who don't know what the hell they are talking about!!

  • goodness southern sounded amazing. their trumpets are playing at a ridiculous octave

  • 27-21!!!!!!!!!! ROLL TIDE!!!

  • No! Listen to the original version by Cameo and listen to this! It's sounds just alike!

  • sorry guy. . . it doesn't sound just alike.

missing alot from the song from cameo. all they playin is the bassline & the main lick.

    you fail.

  • omg. i've never heard them play neck. awesome.

i have to say though. it's kind of different seeing the golden girl style dancing with this song. haha.

  • i just realized i was logged in as someone else. haha. yeah but that was my comment. :]

  • Oh and I guess you all are high stepping now too or are you sticking to that wack ass role step?

  • finally Southern University played

    1.Praise is What I do

    2.Sweet Escape

    3.Fly like a Bird

4.Two Hearts(which every one just about break down in tears when Southern University plays this song)

    5.Vice Versa

  • let me give yall some pointers

the songs don't make the band

HBCU's are not known for playin just crunk music their known for playin gospel/R&B/hip-Hop/and anything that has a feel 2 it

  • I just have to say that Alabama sucks, and Nick Saben swallows. Geaux Tigers.

  • yeah, I guess it is lame playing at a BCS pep rally and then being part of the championship game, which we won, btw.

  • Nice gals but that song is awful!! I like the one LSU plays when the chant L-S-U.

    Go Big Blue!!! Go Cats!!

  • Wow ,Incredible how a song can even pit people against each other. I just hope Larry Blackmon is getting his royalties. I;cve heard he's an astute businessman, so I know he getting paid.

  • PLAY THAT!!!! HOTNESS loveing it FO REAL!!!

  • i am mad at that

  • If being in tune and not sounding like a flock of crows being put into a garbage disposal means "not having soul," then I prefer to remain soulless....

  • song*

  • this soung is tight, and also wished tennessee's band played it and oddly enough today they did at the kentucky game.....

  • Its not a black and white thing its a tradition thing...GSU and SU and all HBCUs have a tradition when it comes to this joint...i sure if LSU woke up one morning and heard some HBCUs playing a song that they traditionally play and label as "their song" they would be just as bothered!

  • they never labeled it their song, so don't be offended. Yes, its their spin on it, but not once did they say "We are the first band to ever play this song." Where did you get that impression? And if the role was reversed, a professional ensemble like LSU, would not be offended. We would feel like the other band was paying respect to us. So grow up.

  • You have a point. Plus I dont like it and the Golden Girls look stupid as usual.

  • bama fan here this shit is off da hook!!!

    ROLLLLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great to see the music cross lines. Keep it real though, Southern University MAY have a had a little influence on this one. Now if SU Dance girls can work with the LSU dance team, THAT would me HOTT!

  • LSU GOT A MEAC SOUNDING NECK

  • let me lay down the facts Grambling first to play neck........ we did it against Jstate in Jackson...... get your facts straight.......

  • i love watching mike in the background... its sooo good

  • Guess HBCUs are gonna have to regroup and reload cause Drumline done fucked y'all up big time.

  • thats how babies are made

  • DAMN I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • I don't like the way they do their hair...doesn't look very nice.

  • wat? the tigah gals is SO FUCKING FINE

  • Them dance girls are werking them weaves!!

  • ok-- im a huge lsu fan, but what is 'neck' and its meaning?

  • Neck is short for the name of the song.

"Your talking out the side of ya Neck".

The Hook: "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY, Ya talking out the side of ya Neck"

Meaning you talking but you aint saying nothing.

  • omg....bigger influence than I thought. but they steal everything from us

  • LSU would put up 400 on Southern.

  • How does every posting of neck start an argument? Seriously, the way LSU plays it compared to Southern, it's not really even the same damn song. I don't think Southern has to worry about LSU trying to take its version.

    WOO NATIONAL CHAMPS! GO TIGERS!

  • I went to Jackson State....FUCK Southern! Y'all always talkin' about somebody stole somethin' from you. Nobody gives a shit about S.U. Overplayin' ass band.

  • And LSU, that shit sounds good! Keep playin' it.

  • bitch stop hating you talking about southern because of the ass whipping they gave jackston state!

  • i noticed that too, i go to lsu and i love our version and i also like the other versions out there, you cant really say anyone stole anything, its a great song, im jus happy that everyone can hear it

    National champs!!

  • Thank you...Diversity is what we need!!!

And I am white...not too white...i got a lil tan.

  • Well, to be honest, Cameo started it all!!! I'm elated that LSU is becoming diverse in song selection. GEAUX TIGERS! Golden Girls, go head on, break it down the way only LSU Golden Girls can. You know, we have Golden Girls who break it down at Alcorn as well!! Embrace diversity!!!!

  • Get a life losers. It's a damn song. I guess I should take my 20's off my truck because I'm white. POSERS

  • I am a grambling fan, but don't come in here and try and say LSU stole this from southern. Southern did not create neck, and yes most black college bands play this and it is good to hear LSU play it and play it well.

  • So how the hell did this become a black and white thing? Just because southern had it first doesn't mean LSU can't play it and I am pretty sure southern is just mad because all you see is white people in this video.

  • i agree...this white/black things is stupid...its a frickin song...many bands from all around the country play some of the same songs...if you ask me, be glad that Southern and LSU are GREAT bands considering most bands consistently play their fight song every 5 seconds b/c thats all they have

  • it's not about you it's about the golden girls!

  • I take that back. I did see hips!! :)

  • Oh please. At least have some dignity not to steal a genuine idea from the local black college (that doesn't get as much RECOGNITION for anybody to know who's IDEA LSU stole.)That's low...

That's the story of that "group of people", right? (Ex: Elvis who stole "Hound Dog" from a black musician). This has been going on since ancient Egyptian times (when the Greeks STOLE their ideas and theories)...

  • i would have to agree with you. Next will it be Grambling's Song, Jackson State's Song, FAMU's Song or UAPB's Song. Can't we just have something to ourselves. Yeah Cameo wrote the song but it started playing first SU...NOw do u see SU playing that weaks ass HEY, Baby. Be orginial !

  • Thats where we are different. LSU can play anything and get praised for it. Southern has to play pretty much the same genre of music to keep up their image and to please their fan base. And that comment about having something to ourselves, I didn't know skin color determined what kind of songs a band could or couldn't play. Way to go setting yourself back 200 years. Music is for EVERYONE! Just enjoy it.

  • did southern copyright that song and those moves??? If not then that means other schools can do them too

  • copying off southern and stealing southern su dolls moves! lsu is not orinally!

  • I hope SU Dolls dont dance like that. They have not Hips or NECK.

All that hair and they dont even work it.
