@boxfreak007 Thanks man! That's great, it's hard but with a little practise you can come very close to it's original! Stay tuned for a splitscreen cover of Dream Theater's Outcry!
@HitsWithStyxx I know about the double-kick endurance. It's something with my pedals (the slave pedal doesn't feel the same as the right one) so it's hard to maintain even! And I'm seriously thinking about getting two single bass drums. Thanks for your comment!
@Djstereos2 It's such a cool part, but very hard to play and I'm not doing it perfectly! But I have to say every time I play this song it gets one step closer to how it should be.
@ToAskEternity Thanks man! It's your right hand(hihat) following the keys and with your feet you play the previous part. It's not easy! First focus on one thing then the other. After that you can put them slowly together. I hope this will help you get through the tough part!

@shmegmaproductions No I actually used the recording with the original drums on it! If you listen very carefully you can sometimes hear Mike Mangini's playing.
killah playin man...... ohk... i guess this might be a silly question of a stupid 1.... but actually from where do you learnt to play all these songs? Is it that you learn from hearing it or what? pls help me out here......
@akshayes007 Thanks man! For the most part I learn the songs by ear, but for this song I really wanted to sit down and write some time changes and make some notes from the drum fills. What helps me a lot is I listen to the drums a couple times before I even start drumming along. Make some notes that YOU understand. Remember some of the drum parts by listening to the other guys in the band (like the guitar or the keyboards are great reference points). I hope this will help you through these songs
The first part of my post got cut off. What I said was that if mike portnoy had stayed in the band, this is the volume at which the drums would have been recorded.
Wait............ You recorded this the day after it was released? That's insane man. My mind is blown. I'm still halfway through the song more than a month after its release. Keep it up :p
@OixordNL Je kan tegen mij gewoon Nederlands praten hoor!:P Het is een vrij pittig nummer dat moet ik toegeven veel drum fills die steeds anders gaan. Wel op YouTube zetten als je hem kent he!
@mikedrm17 Thanks man! Well there are a few things that could be better, but that's what came out of me that day! Anyway I'm glad you like it and I feel very honored!
@ludwigdrummer94 Thanks man! I am wearing Onitsuka Tiger shoes. Great shoes if you are looking for a shoe that is light and has a good sole for kicking the pedals.
Hey man, great drumming! And you learned the song in such a short time too, and that is totally fantastic! My only criticism would be that your runs of 16th note patterns with your feet are quite uneven, I would recommend working on this a bit and tightening it up as it is very noticeable, in amongst all the other cool stuff you're doing.
@DavidPartay Thanks, yeah I know about the 16th. It's because I can't get the balance on my slave pedal. I've tried everything to get them even, but still they feel different. I'm concidering buying a second bass drum with the speedcobra pedals (or maybe a new kit).
@GlennAntoine Fair enough :) What sort of pedal are you using? When I switched from the Eliminators to the Demon Drives, I noticed it actually took me a week or so to stop my left leg compensating for the lag in the connecting shaft. The Demon Drives are much easier to get even too - great pedals! I didn't really have any problems with the Elims though.
@DavidPartay I'm using the Iron Cobras (power glide) wich I bought about 8 years ago, so I have to buy new ones so that they can retire:P. I was thinking about getting the demon drives myself, but I never played direct drive pedals. I've heared some stories about losing power when you play direct drive pedals what are your thoughts about that?
@GlennAntoine Ahh... Yes... I once owned the Iron Cobra junior, and it made me wish I had actually taken my parents up on their offer to spend a bit extra and get the Eliminators at the time. It uses the power glide as well, and has NOTHING on Pearl's cheaper double pedals which I think are the best cheap ones out there.
The Demon Drive is has a HUGE amount of power, far more than my eliminators did. I use the longboard setup, and factory settings with a little more spring tension.
@metropofreak Thanks man, I saw your channel you are an awesome drummer man! I listened very carefully to the keyboards, because MM is doing the exact same as JR! Believe me that wasn't even the hardest part!:P
@cj9884 Thanks man, I will keep posting videos in the future. Me and my band almost finished a really great song called "Man in the Mirror", so stay tuned for this 12 minute piece!
@forlynay Thanks man! I learned it by ear, I think there isn't any sheet music out there jet. I actually never use sheet music. I found out that my ears work a lot faster. Some parts I have to count out first, but when I actually play it I don't count. Than I just hold on to a guitar riff or something like that.
@WarriorPeakey It's a Tama Rockstar kit. I've been playing this kit for over 10 years now! I'm using a Zildjian 14" custom Z mastersound hihat, a Zildjian 14" zbt hihat, a Sabian 18" Fierce Crash(Jojo Mayer), a Zildjian 19" avedis crash, a Sabian HHX 20" china, Sabian mid max stax and a 9" max splash, a Zildjian 20" zbt ride, on top of the max stax I have an old medium cup zildjian( I think it was a 16" crash). I also have a Zildjian 18" A Custom cymbal (didn't had anymore stands to rest it).
I have never in my life thought that a drum cover would better than the original. I was wrong. Listening to this is absolutely breathtaking. Man, those double pedal lines strikes my chest, they're so powerful. Pure creation, you are more than just talented.
@Chruzha First of all Mangini is an incredible player (so is Portnoy!). Well I don't think it's better, these are your words! And the 16th notes on the bass drum aren't flawless! But I'm taking your feedback as very positive man! Thanks for watching and I feel very honored by your kind words!
I wonder now that you've covered both, how do you compare Mangini with Portnoy. I know one song is not enough to say too much, but I wonder if you have any thoughts on this.
@cristianfcao First of all they're both incredible players( world's best players ). I'm not quiet familiar with Mangini as I am with Portnoy. There are some differences. Mangini is such a fast player with his hands, it's almost unhuman and I thinks he did an awesome job with this song! In my opinion they both approaches the drums with a different feel, expression and energy!
@GlennAntoine Hey Glenn, thanks for answering! I'm not a drum player but for what I could listen (btw the volume in the original track is A LOT lower than usual!!) I found Mangini less inventive or (slippery notion) less groovy. He’s obviously an incredible player and I’m sure he can play things Portnoy can't. However, in terms of his composition skills, lest's say I wasn’t blown away so far. I hope he relases a DVD with material from the recording sessions as Portnoy usually did.
@cristianfcao it might be because it was JP who actually programmed the drum parts and sent it to MM for him to play. MM only added some extra bits, majority of that was from JP.
@ivanlai1028 I know MM didn't participate in the composition of the songs and lyrics of the album, however It seems unlitely that he just "added some extra bits" to what JP programed. It's just not practical for JP to program such intricated drum parts as these ones! If JP programed drum parts, I'm sure they were extremely bare and simple.
You did a great job..But I hate how MP fanboys are underestimating Mangini.....No disrespect to you but its total non sense....Wow theyre unrespectful fuckers
@OfivetwoekVeeDee Thanks man! I admire both drummers. Who am I to say something about all that? There will always be haters. But I didn't make this drumcover to start a riot!:P So to everyone please keep it cool and respectfull towards each other! I would really appreciate it!
Yeah...Ive been following Mangini since he got the WFD belt five times and he wont disappoint...Check his work on IPostVideoForMM (maybe thats his account) ..Portnoy aint as good as Mangini cause to be honest hes a little overrated (hes like neil peart...awesome but a lil overrated)....He held back at his audition....Hes able to do wonders...Cheers However...Great Job
@immortalsoloist Well, I don't think I did a better job than Mangini, these are your words. He is one of the greatest drummers in the world! But I'm taking your feedback as very positive! Thanks man, I'm glad you like what I'm doing!
@OfivetwoekVeeDee Not at all. Quit trolling kid. I have been listening to Dream Theater for many many years,I am not hurt at all. I liked what did Glenn did his snare sounds great. And no body is disrespecting Mangini you won't really understand what it means to be a fan of the band for years. How much have you guys respected Portnoy who did so much for the band huh. Get your facts straight and stop trying to create a conflicts here. That's just my opinion,as simple as that.
@OfivetwoekVeeDee And for the record,I think Mangini is a fantastic drummer I just didn't like what he did on the new track. We all have our ways of thinking, just like I can't change yours you can't change mine.
@metabog Thank you! It's a Tama 14" Melody Master (maple snare). They come with the Ambassador heads, but I quickly replaced it for a good old fashion CS head(with the black dot) and on the bottom head I use a clear Ambassador. The top head is very tight and the bottom head is medium tensed. To mic it I use a sm57 where I only put a little bit more high on to make it sparkle. Did I answered your question?
@PedroMoraisPortnoy Thanks man, I'm glad you dig it! That's cool man, I'm about to see them in less than a week! This will be the 4th time for me, very exciting times!
hey mate i'd like to upload some cover videos of my own just wondering what software you use to record with?

One bit of constructive criticism: try working on your double-kick endurance. After a few bars your start to slip into flams.

Some parts I have to count out first, but when I actually play it I don't count. Than I just hold on to a guitar riff or something like that.

are u using a drumless track ? amazing cover btw
Sp4rk3rm3n 7 months ago
@Sp4rk3rm3n No this is just the original version. Sometimes you can still hear Mangini's drums underneath. Thanks man!
GlennAntoine 7 months ago

Chruzha 7 months ago 13
@Chruzha First of all Mangini is an incredible player (so is Portnoy!). Well I don't think it's better, these are your words! And the 16th notes on the bass drum aren't flawless! But I'm taking your feedback as very positive man! Thanks for watching and I feel very honored by your kind words!
GlennAntoine 7 months ago
Great cover!!!
I wonder now that you've covered both, how do you compare Mangini with Portnoy. I know one song is not enough to say too much, but I wonder if you have any thoughts on this.
cristianfcao 7 months ago
@cristianfcao First of all they're both incredible players( world's best players ). I'm not quiet familiar with Mangini as I am with Portnoy. There are some differences. Mangini is such a fast player with his hands, it's almost unhuman and I thinks he did an awesome job with this song! In my opinion they both approaches the drums with a different feel, expression and energy!
GlennAntoine 7 months ago
@GlennAntoine Hey Glenn, thanks for answering! I'm not a drum player but for what I could listen (btw the volume in the original track is A LOT lower than usual!!) I found Mangini less inventive or (slippery notion) less groovy. He’s obviously an incredible player and I’m sure he can play things Portnoy can't. However, in terms of his composition skills, lest's say I wasn’t blown away so far. I hope he relases a DVD with material from the recording sessions as Portnoy usually did.

@cristianfcao A Drumatic Turn of Events :)
royorock 7 months ago
@royorock haha you're thinking like Mike Portnoy!
GlennAntoine 7 months ago
@cristianfcao it might be because it was JP who actually programmed the drum parts and sent it to MM for him to play. MM only added some extra bits, majority of that was from JP.
ivanlai1028 7 months ago
@ivanlai1028 I know MM didn't participate in the composition of the songs and lyrics of the album, however It seems unlitely that he just "added some extra bits" to what JP programed. It's just not practical for JP to program such intricated drum parts as these ones! If JP programed drum parts, I'm sure they were extremely bare and simple.
cristianfcao 7 months ago
You did a great job..But I hate how MP fanboys are underestimating Mangini.....No disrespect to you but its total non sense....Wow theyre unrespectful fuckers
OfivetwoekVeeDee 7 months ago
@OfivetwoekVeeDee Thanks man! I admire both drummers. Who am I to say something about all that? There will always be haters. But I didn't make this drumcover to start a riot!:P So to everyone please keep it cool and respectfull towards each other! I would really appreciate it!
GlennAntoine 7 months ago

@immortalsoloist Blasphemy..Hurt feelings fanboy?
OfivetwoekVeeDee 7 months ago
@OfivetwoekVeeDee Not at all. Quit trolling kid. I have been listening to Dream Theater for many many years,I am not hurt at all. I liked what did Glenn did his snare sounds great. And no body is disrespecting Mangini you won't really understand what it means to be a fan of the band for years. How much have you guys respected Portnoy who did so much for the band huh. Get your facts straight and stop trying to create a conflicts here. That's just my opinion,as simple as that.
immortalsoloist 7 months ago
@OfivetwoekVeeDee And for the record,I think Mangini is a fantastic drummer I just didn't like what he did on the new track. We all have our ways of thinking, just like I can't change yours you can't change mine.
Have a nice day.

giorgosDable 7 months ago 13
Your snare sounds awesome, how did you get that sound if you don't mind me asking?
metabog 7 months ago
@metabog Thank you! It's a Tama 14" Melody Master (maple snare). They come with the Ambassador heads, but I quickly replaced it for a good old fashion CS head(with the black dot) and on the bottom head I use a clear Ambassador. The top head is very tight and the bottom head is medium tensed. To mic it I use a sm57 where I only put a little bit more high on to make it sparkle. Did I answered your question?
GlennAntoine 7 months ago
@GlennAntoine Yup, thanks.

@WarriorPeakey Thanks man, I did the best I could at the time!
