  • The first GS cars appeared at Nassau Dec. 63. Grady Davis and GM dealer Dick Doane snuck the 3 GS cars away from GM and under the Mecom Banner were prepped for raced. John Macom was a second generation oil baron who also flew in a raced prepped Lola GT and the mid-engine Reventlow scarab all stuffed with the hairiest 377ci, 58mm weber carbed, 480hp, 500pf torque Chevy small blocks. Later these GS Vettes would get the aluminium engines. They beat everything except the alum 390 "flip-top" Cobra.

  • i think one was equipped with a 427 and it was fast! it probably would have matched or beat the Cobra.

  • This is AWESOME! :)

  • Sure would be nice to see what this car sells for, I know what chassis 001 sold for all three times it was sold.

  • the white car was sold for 4.7 million (yeah i know it was out of my price range too)

it went off in january i think.

    I have a 63 convertible I'm rebuilding and I'm thinking i may build it as a GS

  • Yeah, last I heard about chassis 001 it was first sold to Rob Walton (nee: Wal-Mart) for 1.2 mil, then a few years later was sold to someone else in the neighborhood of 4 mil...sigh. But I got two laps in it at Road America : )
