Can you tell me if these dogs are hard to housebreak? I was thinking of getting one, but a breeder told me they are not that easy to housetrain. Do you find this the case? thanx
@thestroll1 I have 2 dachshunds, trust me, it's really not hard at all. You just have to keep at it. Take him out every day at the same times and only allow him/her 5-10m to go to the potty. It makes them aware they have a set time to do their business, Always keep a puppy pad in a corner for emergencies, and make sure to reassure them that they are being bad if they have an accident, or good when they go potty by themselves. It's really easy!

'they're hard to housetrain, you can't have him with other animals like cats or bunnies, you can't let get it off the leash'. NONSENSE.ALL my dachsies were housetrained as easily as other dogs I always had them with cats and even chickens and right now I have two bunnies in my living room together with two dachsies.And I let them off the leash all the time, just not near the road
@thestroll1 If you work all day it won't work. You need time for a dog. If you have the time and you buy a puppy immediately start training it. After every meal to put the pup outside and you praise it when it does it's business. Before you're going to bed you let it out the last time. I used to get up around 5.30am to let them pee again. Then I went back to bed. A dog won't train itself, you need to do it, and it takes time. No matter what kind of dog it is.
@thestroll1 Ignore it when it makes a mistake in the house. Don't punish it, you might get a dog that pees out of fear. I'm not into puppy pads myself, you teach the dog to pee inside the house. Outside or maybe on the balcony, never inside. You can use a bench but ONLY as a safe place, NEVER use it for punishment! And never EVER use it for locking up the dog for eight or ten hours. You hear people doing that, it's ridiculous!
