  • i just realized that this song is even more rebelious then the anti-pop. holy crap. way to defy the laws of tradition les. ur my hero! ... they tell me they tell me they tell me they tell me

  • this makes me wanna get funk-e wit it

  • at 11:11:11 i want everone to blear ur speakers with this song

  • 11.11.11

  • 11日11月11年

  • I listened to this song on 11/11/11. It just felt right.

  • @TheLmbrjck Me too :-))

  • Song is mainly in 11/8, the chorus has one bar in 9/8, and after two bars of 11/8 a bar in 12/8

  • I love Primus. They have been one of my favorite bands since I was 12 years old. I have seen them live twice and I've seen Les's solo acts three times including bucket of bernie brains (with the one and only Buckethead). There will NEVER be another Primus and that is one of the reasons why I truly love this band, because they come original and this is one of their best songs off of one of their best albums. Respect the mother fucking one and only Primus you motha fuckas.

  • this song is 4:20

    ;)

  • Anyone know what chinas Herb uses on this?

  • @NotComingBack01 In 1989-90 I'm pretty sure he was using a Wuhan ( 20"... ?) China, then by Seas o' Cheese in '91 I'm thinking he may have been using the same as well as a Zildjian China. Maybe a 20" Oriental China Trash? Or 18"... Then fast-forward to 2008 & he's using an 18" Wuhan China in the 'Outside Lands' Youtube vids ( check Mr Knowitall for a good look/listen to this ).

  • ℙℝℑℳṲ$ $Ṳ☾Ḳϟ!

  • Such an under-rated Primus song

  • irs called eleven because the time signature is in elven / four

  • @PegnantElectricity I can't currently explain to you why exactly, but it's considered 11/8, not 11/4. It has to do with subdivisions and the way things are counted.

  • @TantricConvulsions I personally would just say it shifts from 6/8 to 5/8, but 11/8 sounds cooler. If you listen to Jacob's Ladder by Rush, it has a similar principle.

  • @TantricConvulsions thanks! yea I cover this song ALOT... that little 4/4 part “They tell me they tell me”... I think it has to do with the quarter notes being predominate, rather than the eighth notes.

  • If you like this song, try out King Crimson's "Industry".

  • did you know the guitar player used to be in a death metal band?

  • man, all of Ler's solos are so fucking good on this album....

  • that time signature!

I remember, this was like the 'everest' of this album, I had to listen to it a bunch of times before I could wrap my mind around it and really start to like it.

  • This is clearly 4/4. One two three four One two three four One two four. Right?

  • @leetfukk 11/8

  • @leetfukk you re clearly not a musician mate... =) listen do the beat..

  • @leetfukk when I’m covering it I do 1 2 3 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, so 3/8 and 8/8. anyway you want it

  • can´t u all just shut the phuck up and listen to this great song... there is nothing like this and it will never be something better...

  • trippyyyy

  • 12 123 123 123 duuurrrrr

  • Metallica's "Sad But True" totally stole this intro. Just saying.

  • 11=MAGICK

  • Lyrics are fucked up, but i love the song.

  • 123 123 12345

  • @XdracoX117X

    Technically, it's

    123 123 123 12

  • @squiresuzuki 123 123 12345 repeat

  • @squiresuzuki Yes! It is!

  • why cant i find a drummer like herb?

  • @peterjussi Bozzio could fill in

  • The album art is cheesy.

  • @GuitarExplicit i like it. and im sure you could not come up with anything better.. sorry

  • @phuck777yue He wasn't insulting the album cover he was making a pun

  • 5/8 6/8 11/8 69/4 who cares it's bad-ass. \m/ there are eleven beats. there.

  • 5/8 6/8 11/8 69/4 who cares it's bad-ass. \m/

  • 0 Dislikes... :D

  • 2 verses 1+1= 11

  • This is the only one of their songs that I do not understand. I don't know any of the lyrics. His tone is just so weird. PRIMUS SUX!

  • @TheCratt Lyrics "I just can't seem to blend Into society I have no hope for this dim Simplicity of law and order By whose rules I see no rhyme in the reason I hold no hope for this holy treason Of love and so soft By whose standards They tell me, they tell me Who are they, who is they" The song is pretty much about being a social outcast in a world with fucked up laws.
  • @BeastRammer Thanks man. :)

  • yee 4 20

  • haha FOur MinuTeS and TwENty seCOnDs

  • @crayZtaco7 wow, someone is a pothead

  • i was roaming for the lyrics, and apperently there are 11 unique sentences sentences in the song :|

  • @EbonfrothCovers it's called 11 because it has a REALLY strange time signature.... it's in 11/8, if you under stand music then you'll understand why this song is unusually strange.... even for Primus :P

  • @harrybjackson 5/8 6/8 5/8 6/8

  • @D33veeoss You're saying instead of the song being in 11/8, it's actually alternating between 6/8 and 5/8 every measure? That might work, but seems more complicated than it needs to be

  • @NappyHeadedHorse .

Anyone who wrote it into 11/8 made it more complicated than it needs to be.

I could see it being done for the novelty of the name of the song, but that's as far as it goes.

  • @D33veeoss Nothing sounds just like a complex time signature

  • I I I see no rhyme and no reason

  • this song put me in a trance

  • I miss herb!...although he does play with puscifer

  • I have to say: after years of listening and listening to Primus, this song just encapsulates them for me. The odd-meter groove and the lyrics are sick. Long live this truly one-of-a-kind band.

  • Happy 20(11) everybody!

  • Music is music why do so many people complain about other peoples taste in music? Your all realy just bickering about what click or trend your age group grew up with was more hip. Art is art, You cant compair beatles and primus. Its just silly! Mozart anybody?

  • I got the flu from listening to this song!

  • this shit is crazy triping omg

  • I saw primus last night and I've never heard this song before. I'm also really ocd about time signatures and whenever I hear a new song I have to figure out the meter, so when they played this I spent about half the time trying to figure out the meter and then I got the 11 and I was so proud of myself. If only I had known the name of the song.

  • I just can't seem to blend Into society I have no hope for this dim Simplicity of law and order By whose rules I see no rhyme in the reason I hold no hope for this holy treason Of love and so soft By whose standards They tell me, they tell me Who are they, who is they
  • fkn primus owns so much face its stupid

they should make some new shit

i need some more shroom tunes lol

  • My professor just played this in class today and i completely fell in love with it!

  • The grungiest song ever made. god I miss doing mad drugs and not taking showers for three weeks with my hair on top and shaved on the side ...

  • This song was actually written sometime back in 87' or 88' check it out if you want. Todd Huth's Guitar part sounds different from Larry Lalonde.

  • Primus Sucks

  • @pyrosilverfish music is expression... so your opinion is irrelevant. let it exist the way they want it to. you thinking that it sucks doesn't matter.

  • @tomhatestomatoes @tomhatestomatoes search "Primus Sucks" On UrbanDictionary.

I rest my case. (Unless, you know, UrbanDictionary's become irrelevant too)

  • @pyrosilverfish sorry dude i was pretty drunk when i posted that hahahaha

  • @pyrosilverfish their drummer is sick tho, even if the must is lame

  • I don't understand how this could descend into a battle between the beatles and primus...

I grew up listening to Primus and only got into the Beatles maybe 3 years ago but even so, there's no comparison musically.

Primus might take proggy aspects of music anplay around with incredible, weird bass lines in strange time signatures but the Beatles did so much more. I see Primus very much as an adolescent band, the Beatles as a resonating force of music.

  • ah wish i had herbs kit! and skill :P

  • Ar Mateys!

  • I love your user name :D Bungle!

  • its called eleven because hes talking about god... (and its in 11/8)

  • @trappinglight talking about god , what exact about him >.> primus + god dont go pretty much along X.x

  • @trappinglight i don't believe this song is about god. well the only part that might be about god is when les says, "I hold no hope for this holy treason, of love and so soft." I believe the main idea of this song is how truth is subjective, what you believe is not what I believe, so how can we have a system of law and order that governs when everyone has their own outlook on life. Like by whose rules are we living, who made them, and are we even obligated to follow them. FUCK THE GOVERNMENT!

  • Why are you people comparing Primus to the Beatles

  • @Chameleonizer why?! why?!

  • FANTASTIC!!!!

  • Any song on this album would destroy any song on the radio today.Primus Sucks!!!

  • Primus does'nt need rhyme or reason,.The unpredictability of talent lacks bordism.Who wants to sound like just another band is boring.Keep sucking!

  • Within the first minute, genius ought be identified and well recognized as totally qualified.

    "Total" is difficult to achieve.

It upsets me which albums are revered as "great".

If music is to be fickle like last year's movie, then yes, Beatles are great.

If we're to sap out the information within the music, then Primus is great for substance and nutrition.

Prokofiev March of Knights might be another.

I'm in it for the musical information. You?

  • the Beatles where a diverse and incredibly competent band

im hopin you didn't just call some of the greatest musicians in history shallow.

  • @XcaptainXobliviousX

    Sure I'll give you competent.

Diverse? Mostly sounded the same to me.

Diverse is the difference between 11 and Is It Luck.

No, it's the substance and nutrition that I feed off.

    Beatles is porage.

Primus is porage with sugar.....and eggs and toast and bacon and orange juice and you woman sitting across the table giving you the look. Your boxer terrier lying on the floor staring at you, and your maid who you have to call on the intercom because shes on the 4th floor

  • you obviously haven't listened to an ant shite's worth of the Beatles music then xD

    see: white album.

anyways, if that isnt diverse enough for you, you shouldn't like primus either, cuz i haven't seen them do anything as diverse as that spanning 6 damn albums. amazing, unique, talented band, but diversity is not their selling point.

and wtf does hip-hop have to do with anything? 98% of whats out there in that genre is shit, mostly because a lot of its overproduced auto tuned BS.

  • @XcaptainXobliviousX

Elvis and the Beatles were big in Japan...before HipHop got big.

I'll agree with you that HipHop is shit.

You don't need to agree with me about the market share it takes because that's static fact.

You also don't have to agree with me about the amount of children produced today (conception) whilst HipHop is in the playing in the background, vs the Beatles.

Please, don't argue 'beneficial to procreation' a moot point unless you've just taken 50 Xanax and 25 Zopiclone.

  • @XcaptainXobliviousX Interesting you even think about mentioning the Beatles AS A SIDENOTE before mentioning Rush.

  • @D33veeoss

were you dropped as a child?

i didn't mention the beatles as a sidenote. I mentioned them solely because you did. this conversation had nothing to do with rush.

  • @XcaptainXobliviousX Whoop you sure got me there. Jeepers.

  • @D33veeoss However what I'd really like to talk about is how I played piano at age 3, began formal lessons at 5 and hit a 97% (100% without a funky technicality) on my Grade 2 Royal Conservatory of Music, Musical Theory exam.

    I compose symphony.

While this is an argument ad authoritatum, it's also an appeal to category witness.

Musically speaking, and in fact, Primus topples the Beatles in all facets. They're not different and in my opinion better; no, they trump the Beatles. Musically.

  • @XcaptainXobliviousX Please note, the imagination and information I put into that last tell when I could have stopped at sugar.

The Beatles did not have to tools to do what Primus does.

    I'm not faulting them.

    I'm simply calling them inferior.

    Not different.

No. Inferior. The same, only 'less than'.

Nobody I know that grew up to hip hop listens to the Beatles.

A fuckload of people I know that grew up to the Beatles listens to hiphop.

  • @XcaptainXobliviousX

Certainly though, I concede that the Beatles are not the Beatles.

This is to say you can see a curve as they progress.

So yes, how much better Primus is than the Beatles would definitely vary a whole heap depending on which album, and indeed, song one refers to.

Indeed, Primus' 'worst' song, is NOT better than the Beatles 'best' song.

However we're not discussing best to worst, nor album outliers.

I'm sorry you're a Beatles fan, but Primus has them trumped.

  • @D33veeoss hahahaha

  • Primus Sucks

  • The title is called Eleven because their are Eleven lines in the song!

  • @maynstrain no mate its called eleven coz its in 11/8.. count it in 6 then 5..

  • @richiefff

No mate, 6+5 is 12, which is not 11.

  • @sixstringking6 I think you might need a calculator :P 6+5=11 6+6=12 :P

  • @191191119 oh yea. wut about 7+6? or better yet 8A+2B both in base 16? :0

  • @sixstringking6 hahaha! what happened there?

  • @richiefff Surely it'd be better t count in, as the riff suggests, in 3 groups of 3 and a 2. But hey no one likes a smart ass ;)

  • @damodrummer1 no...they don't

  • @damodrummer1 why would it make a difference?

  • @muffinsNsausage, I guess the difference is feel. The riff seems to say (1) 2 3 - (2) 2 3 - (3) 2 3 - 1 2- to me, or at least that count mimics the main guitar and bass riff.

  • @damodrummer1 just opinion i guess it doesn't make a difference to me

  • @damodrummer1 11 beats

  • @richiefff I do believe it's called eleven because he talks about him and his love.

  • two words

    massive erection

  • Seas of cheese has some major balls.

  • this is ill
