the standard English to teach is british and the standard Spanish to teach is iberian. People change his professor during his student life and you are creating confusion. If both varieties were the same level, may not be confused with SIEN and CIEN or CASA and CAZA. less phonemes, less sound, less letters... poor communication, the result of poor language teaching for centuries

The fact that part of the world studies British English doesn't mean that the other part of the world doesn't study American English. And although I think everyone needs to be exposed to as many varieties as possible, they cannot become the core of a program not aimed at Bristish E. /Iberic Span.

As you said, you do not care about students. I do. I do care about them and want them to learn the way people talk. So if you do not like it, so be it, I will not lose much sleep over what you think or not. &if you are so displeased, create your own materials_ if you can :) Actions speak louder than words

@esaudio And one last comment, Spanish is Spanish. No matter what variety you learn, if your training is good you should be able to understand everyone and get your message across easily. So ISpalito, don't try to confuse people thinking that there are millions of varieties and that if you learn one you cannot communicate with the others or that if you change teachers you will have to start again, that is nonsense, like most of what you are saying.

@esaudio I don't know if you're beign sarcastic with "the tiniest portion", but I've to say that the perfect English is talked by British people, not by other countries like USA, India or Australia (that also talk in english as official language).

So, the real English is talked by British, and the real Spanish is talked in Spain. Indeed South american people has a similar accent that in "Canary islands" in Spain because many sailors were from that area when Colon went to america.

@DarKGamA It is very funny what you say, but let me tell you that linguists (those who study the workings of languages), they all agree...and note here the word ALL, something almost impossible to find in any field...that there are no "superior" or "inferior" languages, or in the same fashion, better or worse varieties of the same language. All languages and language varieties have such elaborate and developed levels of complexity that placing one over the other is a matter of choice, not fact.

Of course you can choose one over the other, but that is a matter of personal preference. And regarding my use of the word "tiny" when I replied to you, compare the regions where Spanish is spoken and you will see that Spain is tiny compared to the overall picture,but a great variety too
