Great playing! I wish I could actually play the organ sitting in my room. I also think this is proof that the Hammond spinets are more than capable of the B-3 sound. Also(yet again), how did you get the brightness and the key click into this organ? A preamp mod?
@FenrirLupus About ten years ago when I played Hammonds more I put a car audio speaker-to- RCA line out, on my Hammond A100. The reverb amp and speaker I left alone, but the 'main' speaker went through this adapter ( BTW ALWAYS put a heat resistor across (+)--^^^---(-) Xohm any speaker wire not hooked to a speaker). Although this adapter is fine. Plus it has a trim pot to adjust level.
My set-up:
line out >equalizer ( use subtly) >DB1> EIC 4XEL84 power amp> Wurlitzer gyro speaker (2X5'')&orig 12
Self taught. I've been playing since age three, always by ear. I don't really consider these two particular videos music though, my real passion is the might WurliTzer.
Thanks, I have a 1969 B3 and have not seen any (black foam)either. I know where to look also. The Hammond organ dealers use that as a excuse to try and put fear in you to buy your Hammnond cheap. I think the temp, sunlight, humidity, etc., play a big part. I heard the 1965 (around that)-later models have the issue. Keep on playing, you are doing good and sound great.
Wery interesting stuff. You got a good feeling for the Organ, and for Music. The sound is also good,i like the way you have "Pimped"your organ with the reverse keys!
That is a Hammond L122. The keys are reversed by default. There's a bunch of variants of the L100 and this happens to be one of them. You don't see them very often, (or I don't at least)
Wow. I was typoed and misinformed. I meant to say L133 and I only assumed that the keys were reversed by default because long ago on an unrelated web-quest, I saw a picture of a inverted L133 on what I now have found to be none-other than YOUR website!
So it looks really nice and factory-done. How did you do that if you don't mind sharing? I would assume you got a couple old B3s and C3s and stole the preset keys but those are "waterfall" style and the L-100 series has "diving board" keys.
I play pedal-bass, that is how I was taught. As for the keys, That was something I did over a weekend with a can on Krylon, haha. The L-133 is such a boring organ, it needed some 'spice'.
I play guitar, but lately I've been on a Hammond kick, and I have to say, this is great. Alot of Hammond players sound the same, but you have a unique sound. Great work!
hey man that a sweet groove in cellar funk, im wondering, did you learn that from sheet music or by ear? If you have the sheet music for it, could u tell us where to get it?
I play everything by ear, and that particular song is one that I wrote when I first bought that Leslie 125.
I wish I could be like those guys who you slap some music in front of them and they play everything there and then, but thats just not an ability that I have.
Hey Nathan! Cool to meet U- I discovered the organ posts on this site by pure accident. First off dude, you are talented and have a great, natural groove! U also play by the same means I play and that is by ear- I cannot for the life of me read A NOTE of sheet music whatsoever. I have a KORG DS-8 synth but have played Wurlitzers and Hammonds. I might be buying a (furniture) Hammond soon with a HUGE Leslie cab that rox! May we all let organ music LIVE ON!!!!
Did you have preset keys put in place of the playing keys? You're really good with the expression pedal. Sometimes, I think I have my foot on it for no reason.

where did u get the reverse keys from?
lennon2009 1 year ago
Nah, I redesigned the preamp to cut the low-pass filtering and provide more dynamics.

Sounds really good Organgrinder. Do the L-133's have the "black foam" issue like B3's do?
69B3 4 years ago
Nope, not that I have seen anyways. Mine are both built around 1967, so it is possible earlier models suffer from the foam.

It's great how you can get all those X-66 like sounds out a once lowly L series. Keep up the good work!

The first music that you played is similar to "Fly like an Eagle", of Steve Miller Band

WOW! The cabinetry is the same as on the one in my videos. The one in my videos is an A-100.

1967

That organ is about the same size as my aunt's as you see in my three videos.

You seriously rock (or jazz or blues for that matter). Good organ guys are so hard to find these days.

You play bass on pedals or put an octavider on lower manual? You stole the keys from B3?
