There was also Harriet Cohen (another Matthay pupil) who played Bath's "Cornish Rhapsody" in the 1944 tearjerker "Love Story", and "Oliver's Theme" (composed by her lover Arnold Bax) in David Lean's "Oliver Twist". Nyiregyhazi played for a lot of films (I guess in between marriages), Louis Kentner did "Warsaw Concerto" (uncredited) for the 1941 "Dangerous Moonlight", not to mention Rubinstein in several '40s films, and Jose Iturbi too. Wiki gives 1 January 1908 as Eileen Joyce's birthdate.
@soami2u Thanks for your interesting comments! I checked several sources and some give 1908, others give 1912 as her birthdate (her mother was Spanish, her father Irish). The "A-Z of pianists" guide written by Jonathan Summers (usually very precise) gives 1912.
Eileen Joyce was a first-rate musician and pianist, as exemplified by her Brahms, Schumann and so much else here on YT. Her playing on the sound tracks of a number of films (as well as performing in some of them), plus her custom of changing attire in between perfs., not to mention her film-star beauty gave her a glamour image which may have prevented her being taken seriously as an artist, but then she was hardly the only accomplished pianist to make a name for herself in the movies!
So she was part Spanish and part Irish...and my goodness was she lovely to look at and to hear! (:-o)
