I'm kinda confused about the word "particle." It can mean just a small piece of something, right? Like, for example, dust? Or does it always describe things like quarks?

@InvaderZim897 Both are accurate meanings. The question of if he gets wet or water gets him however implies particle man is smaller than a water molecule. I assumed an elementary (like quarks) for the sake of my comment, but this question would still allow for larger subatomic particles such as protons and neutrons. In every day life, things like a grain of dust or a spec of smoke are considered particles. This song however clearly uses the word in the same sense chemists and physicists would

Yeah, that makes sense. Though, the whole "does he get wet or does the water get him" might actually be a question of "is Particle Man a subatomic particle or just very small?" After all, the concept of something smaller than a molecule of water "getting wet" makes little sense to me.

@InvaderZim897 Yeah, though I think a subatomic particle is a better contrast to universe man. Not to mention the lyrics, "What's he like? Its not important." could allude to how little particle physics was understood when this song was made. Or it could even be an allusion to the uncertainty principle. Though the fact I first heard this song in a cartoon where Particle Man was a wrestling duck with a model of an atom on his leotard may be coloring my interpretation.

Yeah, I never thought of that interpretation, but you're right! And maybe "dot" and "speck" could be simplified versions of words like "Proton" or "Atom" or something.

Turns out it was also Tiny Toon Adventures in a parody of this movie called the Toxic Revenger. Thank you for settling two long standing curiosities.

I'd have to agree. The other is much better in animation but this one is more creative. The other uses the same drawing of cartoon but with a different design.
