The fact that we only see men in the funeral is because the women were left behind at a certain point in the road, where they said their final farewells and returned home. The men continue to the graveyard and bury the corpse. Women cannot see the burial.
I am Hindu. For generations, my lineage has only buried the dead. Various groups adopted Hinduism at different times in History, and the history of what is India today stretches back 6000 years and beyond. So, variations are expected regardless of what is absolutely written in the religion itself.
so are u suggesting that hinuds who burn their deads are not really hindu .... or are they just different sorts of hindus.... quite to be very honest i have seen and heared that hindus only burn their deads and wash the ashes in some river... which caste of hindu are you ? i am just curious :)
Burial and Cremation are both followed in Hinduism. Burial predates Cremation as it was the most natural method and was prevelant in pre-Vedic era. Post vedic era saw the emergence of two principle strands of followerships namely Shaivaiites and the Vaishnavites.
Shaivites predominantly follow the ritual of burial while the Vashnavites cremate their dead. Pre-Vedic Hindus buried, evident in the burial urns of Indus valley and Tamil Nadu and even now burial is followed by many Tamil Hindus.
