For those that are in Australia and wish to see this car perform in person, feel welcome to be at Eastern Creek on the 25-27 Nov 2011 at the Historic Meeting. We would love to see interested people there.
For those keyboard warriors across the other side of the world who believe other cars are so much better than this one, we welcome anyone to come down under and have a fair race around an Australian racetrack and see how well they perform. This car has performed a 1:51.3 around Eastern Creek which for a 1700kg car is quite an awesome achievement. Anyone can sit behind a keyboard and boast.
This car is a regular racer at various tracks around the country. During its 20 year racing history since we have owned it, it has had many victories including Eastern Creek, Phillip Island, Sandown and a 4th outright at Bathurst in 1994. We are competing in the wrong class at the moment due to it having 7" wheels from factory and hence we are competing against the likes of camaros and trans am mustangs that werent around when this car was racing.
The god of muscle car engines.. the FE 427. Goosebumps appear when you pull into a car hangout with that thing. I watched an AC Cobra 427 pull into a local hangout and as he got close enough to hear the motor, everyone immediately stopped talking and stared..
damn, you lucky guy. i love the galaxies, how something so big can be so appealing to me really is strange, maye it's something to do with their classic 60's style and the shopping motors they had :P
Dude... that's a rather desirable car.. Why waste it on drag racing (although that's what the were built for) but still that thing deserves to be restored and taken to shows.. -_-
Not using it for drag racing. This car was raced here in Australia in the touring car championship back in 1964 and so we have built it up to the same specs and put a show on for the crowd.
@Sarcasticscum "Why waste it on drag racing?" Sure...why waste it on something it was made to do? Overpolish everything, hermetically seal it in a bag for most of the time, and stand nervously at a show with your dusting cloth hoping nobody breathes on it. (sarcastic enough for you?) Cars are made to be driven...race cars are made to be raced.
The REAL question is; are YOU serious.. These cars were built to race, but collective value far exceeds racing value in my book. My dad has two of these, which haven't been raced since the late 1980s for that reason. We do regularly drive them to car shows ( yes, even with open headers to the local ones) and we trailer them to long-distance events. Once you own one, and feel the anxiety of potentially wrecking it out on the track, then you see my point-of-view.
@Sarcasticscum ? Owning a car that is not used for what it was designed for (Driving/running) is just a hunk-o-metal that becomes useless and a home for spiders and squirels to nest in. Sure, it's 'possibly' out classed in todays racing circuit perhaps, butt, I'd be using it to get groceries and frozen goods home FAST! :)
Might as well seal them in Amber like a prehistoric bug.
Still, I could make money with that car, making Pizza/Chicken Deliveries in record time, and/or charge bucks to people that want to touch a working model.
Hmm.. "427 PizzaChickafast" :) "Big Power, Big Pizza, Big Thighs, Big savings! WE cross the road with hot stuff...no guestions asked!"
i was wondering if you could send me your email address? id like to talk to you about the car. my dad had a 63.5 427 lightweight he bought from Tasca Ford. Thanks.
Yeah we are still running this car. Had an absence of about 5 years due to a blown engine but we tracked another block down and got it running again. It ran at muscle car masters in September and will be running at the Tasman Revival on 29/30 Nov.
@ducquet im from dixon il. a friend of mines dad had a 63 1/2 galaxie 500 conv.with the 427 duel quads 4 speed with a plack in the car that said 1 of 21 made this one made especially for mac smith ,he passed they sold the car for alot less tthan they should have it needed minor restoring it only had 11000 miles on it .thought id share that story with a ford fan.
Are you still racing this car?? Remember seeing it at sandown years ago when the Gp N guys were running w/ the V8 supercars, you and this car are an incredible combo!!!

what wheels are they?
JPmixet 2 years ago
The wheels are genuine minilite wheels. 15" x 8" all round as that is the maximum you are allowed to run in the class.

@ducquet Really dig those rims!!

@panhead1219 I agree with you. But a lot of people are into classic cars mainly for the money, it seems.
