This scene is one of the classic man/woman scenes in all movie history; it resides in rarefied air along with but the tiniest handful of startlingly potent scenes portraying at once ethics and animal attraction among sapiens ever to have been committed to celluloid. The only mistake was in making it a mite too short.

Pitch Black ended up being a way more emotionally-moving movie than it had any right to be. I went in expecting a bunch of aliens killing attractive morons. I didnt expect to get invested in the characters. That last bit when Carolyn dies ruined my week when I first saw it.

It's touching, when he falls to the ground shouting "Not for me!", saying that she shouldn't have died for him.

When I first saw it I thought he stabbed her on accident or something, because you saw the knife in his hand. But then I was like "HOLY - !!" When I saw the monster take her away, and for one quick second you see him reach for her, trying to save her with one last attempt. Even though this was a rip off of Aliens, this was still touching.

That was very sad. Carolyn dying. She started off willing to sacrifice everyone else to live but then became the exact opposite. You don't encounter a woman like her everyday.

i think one of the best scenes and one of the first turning points for riddick is when he kills the bounty hunter to save the girl (and i suppose because he wanted to) then says, "don't you cry for him...don't you dare..", excellent. i also find it funny because the others think it's just because he's a nutter but he doesn't explain. almost altruistic...

In the games which explain his scape from the maximum security prison (and some events afterwards) he ended up destroying a bunch of asshole mercenaries and even saving a few innocents along the way. In the beginning of Pitch Black he wasn't exactly a nice guy but he only killed people who got in his way. But overall I agree, Pitch Black has great character development. Both for Riddick and Fry.

I think the Riddick series is amazing. Pitch Black is amazing and the two video game installments expand the story. I personally didn't like Chronicles that much but everything else is great.

The first one of the two "Riddick movies" is good. More human and close to real life than no.2, which is like a fantasy space camp than a real everyday struggle. The unlikely hero learns and becomes more with those who doubt and even fear him. Then finally a moment of helpness and having some feelings for Carolyn, espeically when she was killed and yanked away from him. Her very own words "I would die for them" had come to pass, leaving Riddick to gape out, "Not for me!"

I agree with odiemodie1, Pitch Black rocked. It was very down-to-earth and gritty, it was a more realistic sci-fi survival / horror type thing like Aliens than Chronicles of Riddick which felt like it was trying to be Lord of the Rings. If they make another I hope it's more like Pitch Black and the videogames (Escape From Butcher Bay / Dark Athena, neither of which is magical and mythical like Chronicles, they stay more true to the Riddick from Pitch Black).

Vin spoke about the next one being an independent release, much smaller budget. Apparently as leader of the Necromongers he is supposed to go to Underverse. OH I HOPE IT's TRUE!

In the article I read, the movie didn't make enough in the theatres so they dumped plans for a sequel even though the DVD sales and rental numbers were excellent. Chronicles made money, but seemingly not enough for the big wigs to buy their 50th Ferrari.

Yes, it is really deep. Like her sacrificing her life for *him* got to him, and he decided to start helping others instead of just himself, as is demonstrated throughout the next film.
