@flaggerify Amen to that. These are the stakes! To make a world in which all of God's children can live, or to go into the dark. We must either love each other, or we must die." That was redoubtably the best political ad ever put out. It summed it all up in such a few words.
Honestly, I do think we need to watch Russia, because if 'Osama' is supposedly dead, then where else would he get his nuclear weapons from? You know he's gonna attack us again, he's not dead. <.< And if we aren't watching Russia, he's gonna go to Russia.
@supermariofj - Think before you speak. First off, have you read about Russia lately? About how the powers that be are re-aligning and will not take dissolution so seriously? Second, are you aware that OTHER countries now have the bomb - far more radical than Russia in ideology? What makes you think Nuclear Arms pose no more threat... in any country, Russia or otherwise?
@DaveBassDotCom u sound really scared. hmmm, of all the nuclear powers, in the last decade, which country has killed the most civilians? oh yeah, we have! what other countries pose a threat? Iran, lol. give me a break, i don't even think they have a nuclear weapon. North Korea, hahahaha! look at how they live. actually it's really sad come to think of it. Russia? Yes, i've read about russia lately. Looks like putin may have to relinquish his power. Or maybe try to keep it, but fail.
@DaveBassDotCom Who else? Pakistan? maybe if we'd stop meddling around in other countries' affairs, people wouldn't hate us so much. Perhaps Pakistan would help us out more if we weren't "accidentally" bombing their people as NATO puts it. So yes, I HAVE been reading (and thinking) before I speak.
This is so disrespectful, they should be ashamed. First of all, using that piece of excrement Daisy ad in a presidential election is shameful, as was the KKK ad, which I think never aired. Russia is doing quite well financially compared to the US. They have more incentive than anyone at this juncture to control their own stockpiles. Hells bells people, the cold war is over. Now we just spend trillions to kill poor people.
Lies then, lies now. Foolish fearful citizens will have neither security or liberty if they sacrifice their liberty for security. It is an evil ploy at getting power for power sake. Wake up Sheeple.
When you have nothing else to sell there's always fear to fall back on. Scare the crap out of the jerks, right "AmericanValuesNet" ?
And when was the last time Russian nuclear inspectors checked out US's weapons stockpile ?
NEVER ? WHAT ?!?!
How unfair is that.
Will you haters give up on the Thermonuclear War stuff. It's too old & boring.
And if you want to do away with terrorists, you can start by executing the entire G.W. Bush Adminstration for 9/11 and mass murder & treason. GHWBSatan.
You define ignorant good sir. While this video is ridiculous, and the "War on Terror" was extremely poorly executed, not a single piece of fucking evidence links the Bush Administration to the september 11th attacks.
Who supports the treaty? The National Security Community (currrent Secretaries of State & Defense, Director of National Intelligence, and other leading voices for American Security from both the left and the right). World leaders, including at the recent NATO Summit, are calling for American leadershp. The American people support it overwhelmingly: with over 75 percent in favor.
START is not a partisan issue. It's a concern for all of us, and for our collective security.
It's so sick to recall the horrible fear mongering LBJ employed against Civil Rights legend Barry Goldwater (of course, these days people probably don't remember NAACP champion Goldwater for who he really was).
If this ad makes any sense at all, it's saying the Russians could start a nuclear war. I don't mind treaties or cutting down our nukes. It's a good idea. But this ad bypasses a lot of good points that need to be applied. It's fear politics.
Wait, based on my understanding, this treaty has been backed by the Pentagon, Henry Kissinger, the head of the Missile Defense Agency. What's the hold up? If they say we need this for our national security, why in the world hasn't the Senate passed this thing?
I remember when the first version of this ad was made. It's deeply troubling that anyone had to remake it to get the Senate to make such a common sense decision for ratification.
@ReligionNerd1 Very well put. The Senate voted START and other similiar treaties through almost unanimously EVERY other time national security issues like this have come up. The Republicans are just being obstructionist, which would be fine except for the fact that it puts us all at risk.

Wait, so are other commenters really saying we should just be leaving Russian nukes unmonitored??? We don't need our inspectors checking in on the largest nucelar arsenal in the world?? Bin Laden has said he wants to get the bomb. Russia's stockpile is the best chance for him to do that. Its insane for us not to be watching them.
Simply despicable on your part. I thought that dissent was patriotic. Apparently that is only the case when the president is a Republican and the dissenters are liberals.
Awesome remake! And appropriately adapted to our current situation. This treaty is a no-brainer and absolutely needs to be ratified. It's exactly because nations like Pakistan, Iran, and North Korea are growing dangers that the world's two greatest nuclear powers need to be in cooperation. New START is a vital step to nuclear security.
Will today's disingenuous 'Daisy' ad be able to penetrate the American psyche as it did in 1964, when the equally disingenuous original was the capstone of perhaps dirtiest Presidential campaign in history? Pffft. One would be better served if they read Intrilligator and Brito's "Can Arm Races Lead to the Outbreak of War?" as a primer and Glen A. Kent's memoir "Thinking About America's Defense" to get an idea how SERIOUS people think about this stuff. Both documents are available free online.
This video provides a fantasyland view of reality, using a monster-under-the-bed presentation to get its point across-- a point that is based on the flawed assumption that rushing to sign a treaty without appropriate review would be a productive endeavor.
@zoyclem This treaty was signed back in April and voted out of committee in September. The only reason it's being considered in the lame duck is because Sen. Kyl - who is now the main Sen. obstructing the treaty - wanted to wait until after the election so the vote wouldn't be influenced by partisan politics. There have been numerous hearings and meetings. It's time for the Senate to stop posturing and vote.
The current lame-duck congress recently passed a huge health care legislation package without reading the bill, and you expect them to have read START? I'd prefer to wait until we at least have a Congress that behaves as a deliberative body, rather than hope for the best with the current rubber-stamp group.

If monitoring Russia's nukes was all of START, anyone with a brain would be all for it.
But that's NOT all there is -- and it hurts our capability more than theirs, and helps them more than us.
START is about weakening our nuclear deterrent capability.
We are in FAR more danger today than during the "cold war" - not least because the communist America-haters control of a large part of our .gov
Then there's China, NorK, Iran, and a billion+ muslims
How 'bout we START by securing our borders?

PS: Why is B.O. flipping out over prospect of reading treaty into Senate record?
Why claim "12 hours" to read only 17 pages?
See full text at tinyurl(dot)com(slash)start-txt
Why oppose it? MANY reasons.
Why has BO refused to release negotiating record? What's he hiding?
See tinyurl(dot)com(slash)anti-start-1
No urgency - both agree to maintain old treaty until new is in. Why not just renew old?
What's wrong with START? See /tinyurl(dot)com(slash)anti-start-2
This is too dangerous to rush!!
