  • Love Gutierrez's - amazing. Never heard anything so good.

  • I don't think that is good AT ALL!!!! It's just random notes. : (

  • ValentinaLisitsa :))

  • I don't see my name... ;-)

  • Oh, you lucky men who saw Martha alive...

  • @SnowClouds810 what the hell is wrong with you? she's alive

  • @SnowClouds810 Oh jesus, you scared me for a while there.

  • l get nervous listening to this version, unlike her beautiful etude 10-10, l dont know what for all this hurry... people nowadays are all in rush..... no wonder you all love this version.....

  • Best piano player alive (2011)? That is probably true. Her musicianship is more evident in her ensemble work than in her solo or concerto performances.

Once we admit the illustrious dead ... she can't hold a candle to John Ogdon, or

    Sviatoslav Richter, or ....

  • Uhm, this isn't "Best Pianists who ever lived", more like "Best PIanists who are still alive", sir.

  • Martha Argerich and Krystian Zimerman are my favorites .. Martha does things that no one else does and she is so emotionally powerful in her playing, a genius of music and a heart of artistry,

  • @ocsound1 I would agree with those two 100% Lol!!

And my Fav deceased pianist would probably be Artur Rubinstein

  • This piece has tried her mettle on the keyboard! Superb!!!

  • grande! e grazie mille!

  • Biret and Argerich are my two favorite pianists! I'm so glad I found someone else who appreciates them as well. Most people I find who like Argerich tend to not care for Biret.

  • Incredible, inexcusable and even shameful absence of Claudio Arrau in your sampling!!

  • adapted from KImolerik's channel? sounds like it.

  • STUPENDO VIDEO!!!!! AMAZING MARTHA!!!!!!!

  • mmmm and Claudio Arrau is the best.... Where is he?

  • DJ Earthatic is in da house, playing all the greatest hits from your favorite old school artists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Rach-Man, Beet=meister and Sir Liszt-a-lot are in da House!!!!!! Featuring Proko-high-five & other of your favorites, on Youtube. Your number one 4 serious music & fun!!!!

  • Bravo for starting out with Argelich: she is without a doubt the best piano player alive and performing today - and to my mind at least in the top 5 or so pianists of all time.... such intense passion and insanely great skill combine to create an atmosphere charged with excitement, musicality and sonorific pleasure whenever she ventures out onto the stage. I hope she comes to Halifax sometime soon.....

  • Just coming upon this series, earthatic. Thanks for Biret, Kerns, & Ruby, all of whom are new to me. Glad you included 2 faves, Kovacevich and Perahia. There are a lot of other names you could have included IMHO, e.g. Aimard and Oppens, but of course this is an arbitrary game in a lot of ways. Amazing playing, though, as you say!

  • Great work you've done! Thanks for the videos!

P.S. How could you miss Horowitz? :)

  • argerich and the russian composers ...... this is the best combination EVER

  • I have listened to Argerich playing Rach 3 -3 quite a few times and didn't know it was her till now !

  • ARRAU

  • there is no "best" pianists.. c'mon I'm tired of this crap of who's best and who's better. It only makes being a concert pianist even more difficult since you put labels on "whos better, best" It's a matter of taste. Each person has something new to offer to the table! Don't give me the best. Instead give me the most original. Let me add, a real pianist is someone who's original. That means who doesn't work off previously composed songs. I respect the dedication but not the originality.

  • Arcadi Volodos too!!!

  • I love this video. Argerich's perfomance of the Rach 3 is one of the greatest performances of all time.

  • I wish to feature my teacher one day Carol d Ambrosio she was so great is her day she woke up one day and could not walk it's sad sorry to write this here but hearing her reminds me of her..

  • Amazing!

  • About the last part... Didn't know Muse have covered (a part of) Chopin's Nocturne!

  • I think the best pianists are: LIberace,Mozart,Bethoveen

Between thoses I think liberace would win :D

  • This kind of music is new for me [I'm metal fan], but this looks like very difficult to play. Some part sounds like some etudes - written to show how good you are.

  • My girlfriend listens to instrumentals and i have to say that i have grown interested in piano instrumentals

  • THE BEST, UNIQUE

    GREAT!!!

  • Liszt Bminor sonata played by Argerich, started my love for the piano.. She is awsome, but there is no best of course, music is not a competition and there are so many interesting/beautiful ways to play a great piece..

There are many excellent pianists, Argerich is one of my favorites, she has a special place in my heart because she was my first piano-love, but I have many :-)

  • I couldn't agree more. Argerich's recording of Ravel's Piano Concerto is my favourite and I love nearly everything she does.

  • I first heard Martha Argerich play years ago. One afternoon I was visiting the public library in South Los Angeles and checked out a Classical CD of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor K. 466. I was amazed by this pianist's emotional interpretation and precision. After reading the linear notes on the sleeve, I discovered that it was MARTHA ARGERICH from Argentina ( coincidentally, my French Creole father named me after a popular boxer from Argentina named " RAMON LA CRUZ " )!

  • Martha is the unique pianist of our time, not to be compared with anyone, just a force of nature, (even when disagreeing with her sometimes!)

Idil Biret i heard & admired, younger, but the more recent recordings on Noxious, don't show her at her best.

The two ladies have both kept their stunning beauty into mature age. Excellent & provocative choice for a starter.

  • The beggining of a series exploring the best pianists that ever lived. We will feature pianists from the time that recording was invented to the present day. The series starts with a dazzling per... this is a great idea you have. keep me posted

  • Argerich is the complete virtuoso, Kissin and Lugansky deserve high ranking also

  • No one plays Rach 3 like her... No one ...

  • @parpaiounverd i have a recording of horowitz playing this and it is just as good

  • @parpaiounverd It should be "like SHE" you fucking retard. It should be a nominative pronoun, not a fucking objective pronoun you fucking douchebag. It could also read "No one plays Rach 3 like she does... No one...." You need to seriously learn some fucking grammar before you make another fucking ignorant, retarded post.

  • @partlyshady

    Grammar: A+

    Swearwordology: A+

    Smart-assing: A+

    Social Interactions: did not attend

  • @parpaiounverd I like Martha so much and I think she is one of the best living pianist but in my opinion the best Rach 3 I've ever heard is by Lazar Berman.

  • @parpaiounverd Then how come David Helfsgott has a movie about the Rach 3 but she doesn't? Hmmm...

  • @koalaswrath lol because Martha doesnt show how crazy she is.....its a secret...

  • @parpaiounverd -Agreed.

  • @parpaiounverd -That is for certain.

  • Not even close. Best played and perhaps best that it will ever be played.

  • @parpaiounverd Rach himself

  • @parpaiounverd

    Horowitz does!!!!

  • you are right to start with Argerich !!!! at the moment she is the most complete musician and virtuose still playing...

  • Argerich es Argentina gracias Dios

    Argerich is Argentine thanks God

  • conoces a Claudio Arrau???

  • Hola edusominador! Si! imposible no conocer a Claudio Arrau!

  • Martha Argerich is THE best pianist to have ever set foot on this planet- period!

  • I love so much Beethoven´s 1 concerto, 3mov.... Its so exciting!!!!!!, and by Argerich still more!!!

  • Art Tatum belongs on this list

  • ... looked through the entire collection, great pianists, all deserve to be in the list.. But where is Gould?!?!

  • idil biret best at chopin

  • How appropriate and satisfying that you would begin your series with Madame Argerich. I personally do not feel there is any more exciting pianist alive today.

    Thank you so much!

  • Me too,indeed.

  • @salviati Amen - just Amen

  • @salviati yuja wang...

  • fantastic set of videos earthatic! thanks to you and also to paulostroff for bringing it to my attention. fascinating.

  • Thank you! Are you going to upload any videos soon! I'd love to hear more from you!

  • @earthatic "İdil" not "İdel"

  • Martha "Rocks"- will be seeing her perform at this summers BBC Proms (No.60) in August. Can't wait.

  • When she is playing Ravel's Piano Concerto and Prokofiev's First Piano Concerto, I can't wait to see it as well, I'm going to see it live at the Royal Albert Hall! When I saw her name in the prom listings, I instantly wanted to see that concert, I am such a fan of Argerich! I am even thinking of making a tribute video! The concert also has the amazing orchestration of Pictures at an Exhibition, and a piece by Viver! I am really looking forward to it!!!! Another month and a half to go though!

  • Summa Cum Laude

  • Of course Martha should be #1

  • great series, but too much of the same pianist ! there are so many good pianists that have recorded.

  • Totally Awesome!!

  • Great as ussualy

  • A great idea,... would like to see time about fifty-fifty for pianists.

  • Nice lookin birds!

  • I never hear rachmaninoff piano concerto no 3

i dont know why i dont like it.

martha argeric the best pianist(queen concerto)

  • It's too long long for a piano concerto.

  • There is a tube film with Rachmaninov, playing the third piano concerto. The comment from user/hophmi is very interesting.

    Google for:

Rachmaninov plays Rachmaninov Piano Concerto 3 (1939)

  • The best pianists are Rachmaninov, Liszt and Chopin.

  • I will include Rachmaninov playing the piano in the series, but Liszt and Chopin were living before recording was invented, so I can't include their performances, but I will give them credit in the series. I promise you, Rachmaninov is one of my favourite musicians, I shall not forget to include him!

  • The piano extract at the start is a great start to the series! The concerto is very Russian!

  • Hey! It's beginning not beggining!

  • earthatic, is there a way for you to send me those Martha Argerich performances, the Rach 3 one and the Chopin Piano concertos you used in the other videos ?

    thanks in advance

  • I can send you the videos of the Martha Argerich through a private message if you want me to, the Chopin from the Best Piano Concertos Part 2 is from a CD but I can upload the contents from that CD and send it to. Let me know if you want the private message.

  • Thank you!

  • stupid comment, considering you've never heard & never will hear chopin or Liszt play. & rach wasn't the biggest master of the instrument although he did at times bring charisma that others couldn't.

  • They are the best because except they were virtuoso pianists they've created so much great music unlike most other pianists

  • there's a HUGE difference between being the best pianist & the best composer. there are composers who couldn't even play the instrument they were composing for.

  • AMAZING!!! 5 STAR! i shall repeat what the others have been saying, Argerich is totally fantastic! what is else to be said! the rachmaninov was fantastic and a fantastic way to start a new series! the chopin by idel biret was so beautiful! these women are some of my favourite pianists ever! can't wait for more in the series! straight to my faves!

  • You have excellent taste in music Earthatic

  • Reading the comments I only can say from my own experiences in listening to pianists, that I had a strange experience once, when I heard Rachmaninov performing his own third piano concerto.... Though I LOVE his compositions as the most beautiful ones EVER, I did not prefer his piano performance more than from others.

And, listening to Argerich here, I cannot imagine that the Maestro himself would have done it better. She is amazing. Great.

She earns the Rachmaninov Award, if there was one....

  • Ottimo

  • Wonderful as usual, dear friend!!

  • Love you, Argerich!

  • Ι Think the best pianist ever was the one who composed the masterpiece we are listening to......

  • I totally agree with you. In my opinion, Sergei Rachmaninoff was the best pianist, even though Martha Argerich is also an extremely talented pianist, along with Marc-André Hamelin and many others..e

Thanks for posting earthatic, your videos are tresures

  • Argerich is a good choice to start a series like that one. Idil Biret is more surprising, although she is most respected by many great pianists. She has been playing for a very long time and is known for her great technique. Wasn't she one of the first in modern days, to have played in public the highly difficult transcirption of the

    "Symphonie Fantastique" by Liszt....?

  • Dear beloved friend...

You touched me already before the video started, knowing, that what was coming was dedicated to me, being a piano-lover in the deepest way.

Listening to it the touch is going deeper and deeper, because it is as if I am a pianist myself, wanted to be, have been maybe in another life, anyway: that feels as a deep pain not to have had the opportunity (again) in this life to play on it, or even hear someone playing live on it with this kind of music, as a Master....

  • Thank you.... I send you all I feel.

May all my wonderful feelings be a blessing for you and your work....
