Best piano player alive (2011)? That is probably true. Her musicianship is more evident in her ensemble work than in her solo or concerto performances.
Once we admit the illustrious dead ... she can't hold a candle to John Ogdon, or
Martha Argerich and Krystian Zimerman are my favorites .. Martha does things that no one else does and she is so emotionally powerful in her playing, a genius of music and a heart of artistry,
Biret and Argerich are my two favorite pianists! I'm so glad I found someone else who appreciates them as well. Most people I find who like Argerich tend to not care for Biret.
DJ Earthatic is in da house, playing all the greatest hits from your favorite old school artists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Rach-Man, Beet=meister and Sir Liszt-a-lot are in da House!!!!!! Featuring Proko-high-five & other of your favorites, on Youtube. Your number one 4 serious music & fun!!!!
Bravo for starting out with Argelich: she is without a doubt the best piano player alive and performing today - and to my mind at least in the top 5 or so pianists of all time.... such intense passion and insanely great skill combine to create an atmosphere charged with excitement, musicality and sonorific pleasure whenever she ventures out onto the stage. I hope she comes to Halifax sometime soon.....
Just coming upon this series, earthatic. Thanks for Biret, Kerns, & Ruby, all of whom are new to me. Glad you included 2 faves, Kovacevich and Perahia. There are a lot of other names you could have included IMHO, e.g. Aimard and Oppens, but of course this is an arbitrary game in a lot of ways. Amazing playing, though, as you say!
there is no "best" pianists.. c'mon I'm tired of this crap of who's best and who's better. It only makes being a concert pianist even more difficult since you put labels on "whos better, best" It's a matter of taste. Each person has something new to offer to the table! Don't give me the best. Instead give me the most original. Let me add, a real pianist is someone who's original. That means who doesn't work off previously composed songs. I respect the dedication but not the originality.
I wish to feature my teacher one day Carol d Ambrosio she was so great is her day she woke up one day and could not walk it's sad sorry to write this here but hearing her reminds me of her..
This kind of music is new for me [I'm metal fan], but this looks like very difficult to play. Some part sounds like some etudes - written to show how good you are.
Liszt Bminor sonata played by Argerich, started my love for the piano.. She is awsome, but there is no best of course, music is not a competition and there are so many interesting/beautiful ways to play a great piece..
There are many excellent pianists, Argerich is one of my favorites, she has a special place in my heart because she was my first piano-love, but I have many :-)
I first heard Martha Argerich play years ago. One afternoon I was visiting the public library in South Los Angeles and checked out a Classical CD of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor K. 466. I was amazed by this pianist's emotional interpretation and precision. After reading the linear notes on the sleeve, I discovered that it was MARTHA ARGERICH from Argentina ( coincidentally, my French Creole father named me after a popular boxer from Argentina named " RAMON LA CRUZ " )!
The beggining of a series exploring the best pianists that ever lived. We will feature pianists from the time that recording was invented to the present day. The series starts with a dazzling per... this is a great idea you have. keep me posted
@parpaiounverd It should be "like SHE" you fucking retard. It should be a nominative pronoun, not a fucking objective pronoun you fucking douchebag. It could also read "No one plays Rach 3 like she does... No one...." You need to seriously learn some fucking grammar before you make another fucking ignorant, retarded post.
@parpaiounverd I like Martha so much and I think she is one of the best living pianist but in my opinion the best Rach 3 I've ever heard is by Lazar Berman.

stupid comment, considering you've never heard & never will hear chopin or Liszt play. & rach wasn't the biggest master of the instrument although he did at times bring charisma that others couldn't.
there's a HUGE difference between being the best pianist & the best composer. there are composers who couldn't even play the instrument they were composing for.

Martha is the unique pianist of our time, not to be compared with anyone, just a force of nature, (even when disagreeing with her sometimes!)
Idil Biret i heard & admired, younger, but the more recent recordings on Noxious, don't show her at her best.
The two ladies have both kept their stunning beauty into mature age. Excellent & provocative choice for a starter.
