When the key is lost, you dont have that many options. This actually works (personally tested on two different locks), but you need a little bit of luck and patience.

Make sure you have the correct dimension to make a perfect fit (I used a pencil) and stiffened up with a good tape.

What I find weird though, is when you say a lock is "unpickable" then the picker is very enthusiastic about getting a hold of said lock. If you were to say that the lock is very hard to pick then it sort of lowers the picker's want in getting it and picking it.
