Has anyone else noticed that this game is a little jerky under mame? Is it a minor flaw in the emulation, or did the real arcade game run like that?

Used to play it back in the late 80s at a local grocery store. Couldn't get past the 1st stage lol. I was about 7 or 8 years old at the time.
