  • I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD STOP BUYING GUITARS AND BUILD THEIR OWN!! ...WE NEVER KNOW WHAT THE NEXT "STRAT" OR "TELE" WILL BE. AND NO MATTER WHAT, YOU WILL BE VERY PLEASED WITH IT!! IVE BUILD AND SOLD ABOUT 8 GUITARS ALREADY AND I LOVE EM ALL!! THERES NOTHING BETTER!!

  • whats that pickguard called with the kinda crystaly look off it ?

  • Pearloid. Look up pearloid pickguard on google.

  • @johnhguitar sweet tanks

  • Can you make a tutorial of how to do that thing you do at 0:26? If not, could you at least point me in the direction of something that can show me how?

  • That's a flamenco technique I picked up from Professor Coleman at Saddleback College. I noticed Doyle Dykes using it in his country playing and I started throwing it in randomly. Kinda cool eh?

I don't know how to spell it but it's called (rastiatho) Could someone help me here?

    It would be hard to explain in words but here I go;

    post your thumb stationary on the low E string then one finger of the left hand at at a time 3 2 1 v 3 2 1 ^ 3 2 1 v 3 2 1 ^ I don't use the little finger. Help?

  • A Tele is my favorite electric guitar---but doesn't necessarily have to be a Fender---I like some other Tele type guitars too---the Yamaha Pacifica is like a Tele and plays good. I knew a girl when I was in college who had a AMES Telecaster style guitar she liked a lot------has anyone out there ever heard of an Ames Tele?

  • I've played a Fender Telecaster, a standard one, best guitar I've ever played. But I haven't played a lot of guitars though.

  • hi john excellent video. Fender have brought out a James Root signitature which has an ebony fretboard.

  • Is this your favorite overall guitar because youve assembled it yourself?

    -Freddy

  • @thebostonfan100 I had all these parts given to me and I did the best I could to make a class-A guitar. Is turned out great but not my favorite. My Gibson 175 I'm playing like crazy these days. Thanks for your interest.

  • Nice job John. Does that neck have no radius at all? It looks to me like it may be something like a 16 in. Also maybe it's just the glare but it looks like the frets don't have much of a crown. Really good sounding instrument there.

  • Hi and thanks for the comments. The fretboard is slightly rounded and I topped the frets pretty hard because one fret stuck up and I was too lazy to pull it out and try and pound it flush before topping the entire fretboard. We have upgraded our amps so these older videos sound a bit thin. Thanks again...

  • thanks for your extremly nice videos

  • dude that neck looks pretty epic. is that by chance an american deluxe neck with the tint taken off?

  • None is better. The nashville offers more sounds.

  • there's no better. they are both great, it just depends on what you need. that's like saying "what taste better mayo or miracle whip"? who knows? ones better for some, and the other is better for others

  • nashville

  • can you recommend any good guitars to buy for 600 and less. i dont wanna make my own guitar. i am looking for something with grover tuners and stop tail piece with a set neck. i am thinkin of schecter c1 plus but anyother recommendation

  • Epiphone ES-335 Dot. Still my favorite axe.

  • Thats a real nice guitar john, i want to build a guitar now :)

  • I wonder how difficult would it be to make an archtop guitar.

  • Oh Boy! I guess it's like making a violin. There's a book about archtop construction. Better get it or sign up with a willing teacher.

  • I am seriously thinking about this, sort of long project, many years ahead :)

  • how much did that cost you john?

  • Since some of the parts were given to me by family and friends it's hard to say. You could spend anywhere from $400 to $1000 depending on how high-end you want to go. If you buy used stuff on line you might really be able to put a nice guitar together for a reasonable price.....

  • I have been thinking of making a guitar for a long time.

I want to make everything that I can make from scratch. I want to be able to decide the shape of the body, and decide the design of the head. The neck I want to be pretty flat, like the one in your video. But I imagine making the neck would be hard and I'd probably get it wrong, with the frets and all. Problem is, the neck and head is one piece.

The rest I'd have to buy though, like the pickups and, well, all the electronics.

  • You might find joy in the making of your imperfect instrument. If at first you don't succeed, try again.

A great journey begins with one step. I've met lots of people who make guitars and stuff like parts. Bernie Hefner came up to me about twenty years ago and said he wanted to make guitars. He's now an established builder of guitars and parts for guitars. Check out B. HEFNER CO.

  • I had a look at Bernie's site and sent him a message, John-what a nice guy! There is nothing he can't do..I'm getting a body from him-thanks for the advice John, really appreciate it.

  • But fun to try. Talk with people and consult experts. You will learn all about guitars during the search. Even if you don't go ahead with it, your knowledge of sound and construction gained from the research will make you more confident about yourself as a guitarist/musician. Thanks for the comment...

  • Are they cigarette burn marks..a' la' Clapton...i see on the neck where us smokers usually put a half smoked ciggie John, i thought you were a clean boy?

  • It was like this when I got it. This neck is about ten years old....

  • Ohh, right, great job on the Tele mate, I am trying to build a P90 Les Paul at the moment-looking on ebay for a decent body, have a neck ready to go-got the p90's

  • lol at the cowboy hat and hawaiin shirt

  • Most cowboys that wear Hawaiian shirts and a cowboy hat are retired. Not me sorry.

  • Hey John some time i would like to hear a review of a Gibson ES-335 diamond, if possible that would be awesome, thanks John.

  • Sorry if I sound dumb and lack knowledge but what is a Gibson Diamond-335?

  • is that a gauge 9 set on that guitar?

  • 10 gauge: I like the chord sounds better but it does make bending a little tougher....

  • I've always thought that he sounds exactly like Ted from Scrubs. :) Nice video as usual, love the melody in the beginning!

  • high john would off liked to hear the bridge pickup nice guitar i am making my own tele i have tone rider vintage pickups and a ash body saving up now for the neck i want a 7.5 raduis neck with vintage frets as i have very small hands...

love your vids liked the mim tele vid sounded awesome.

    steve uk

  • He switched to the bridge pickup at 7:31, but because of the camera I chose at that moment it was hard to see.

    -jc

  • This is what I want to hear; an open discussion about how people are putting guitars together for themselves!

    Thanks for your comment...John

  • man, that is a beautiful guitar

  • John, are Telecasters your favorite guitar? I notice that you play them alot.

  • Not really. I play a bit of country music and when I do I prefer a tele....Thanks for the question....

  • Nice sound!

I many times think about to buy on warmoth and build my own guitar, but you really don't know what will be the final result. And buying parts to build a guitar it's not so cheap.

that's because until now I don't do it.

  • Beautiful guitar, John. Good work with it :)
