Its nothing to do with being the best, its about saying 'rule waves - so as to never be slaves'. Its says dont end up under rule and maintain independance and be thankful and proud of the democracy they have compared to other countries.

The Lyrics are similar to what you find in an Irish or Scottish rebel song - which isnt that strange seeing as it was written by a Scot - but then again its a symbol of english arrogance according to you.
