  • I CRIED.

  • friken sad ;3;

  • awesome...

  • We all need to learn compassion...

  • IMHO: Japan has a bloody history from their past. Like every other government in the world. They've made mistakes just like Germany, England, Italy, El Salvador, Colombia, United States and every other country with ambitious and egomaniacs leaders. But we are in the present, we need reminders to not to make the same mistakes, but more importantly we need forgiveness and an education based on empathy not morality. Japan: bloody past, shiny present, brilliant future... I hope :S

  • This makes our American schools look like an ugly, ugly place...

  • Thankyou so much for this documentary, to the filmmakers as well as Mr Toshiro Kanamori, with his exceptional view on educating the future generations, Hopefully this film reaches many teachers and the people responsible for preparing the school education planning and works, and bring in more humanity to the educational system around the world, Thankyou deeply and much respect

  • Wonderfull inspiration for Peace Love and Happyness

  • respect to teacher and children!

  • And they did it WITHOUT jesus christ. kudos to these children.

  • cool how they've been raised in an atmosphere where they can be so open at such a young age to tell each other about such personal things and how they feel about one another. at my school at that age if we had to write something like that, personally my friends and I would joke around and be like "lol feelings and shit, thats gay" and wouldnt be able to openly express our feelings seriously

  • Why is this difficult for a Western ear? We did this at my school too - we learn lots of things like this in the UK. In my secondary school we were all given a diary to write in and share too.

  • @Luvzi12 I think by western the narrator means US. If that is the case it is disturbingly pathetically true.

  • the teachers seem to be very nice. nothing like the teachers I used to have at school.

  • IMAGINE

  • @MasSKiLLiNN : IMAGINE .... if schools here taught emotional intelligence as well as (supposed) math, science, and language intelligence.

  • @fruitsytoots ...I Am 32 Years Of Age, And Have Been Taking "Personal Growth" Courses For The Past Year, And Getting In-touch With My "Deeply " Suppressed Emotions . I Am "Just" Learning The Things That These Children Are Learning at Such A Young Age, Which Is Truly Amazing.......Tear :)))

  • Teachers are just graded on the academic performances/CCA achievements of their achievements and I think that’s wrong… We need to have the best brains in the education sector, not banking n finance…

  • I think all teachers should watch this.... srsly how many teachers could be like this guy with so much compassion and empathy for their students? Tutors nowadays just teach what is required of them according to lesson plans designed to pass standardized tests. Qualities such as optimism, courage, caring for friends etc which are seen in the video are selectively left out because they simply are not tested in exams.

  • @Xello998 And the US should so themselves. No I will never be made to feel all "warm and fuzzy inside". What these people desirve will come to them one day & I hope they feel the same agony.

People are far to corrupted for doing nothing.

  • amazing! this is why america is behind.

  • lol @ 3:55

  • @strife01 WWI no, WWII they did appoligize for what they did & ended up paying the countries back.

Though during WWII the German army did make a habbit of destroying a lot of incriminating evidence about WWI so lots of speculation about what they did.

Also in comparision with the NAZI party and the Japanese during WWII the Japanese killed far more & did a lot worse than imaginable.

My beaf is that Japan has a habbit of ignoring things.

  • But with my first comment, I think you know foreigner should have more direct relationship with their peers. I mean, they hid alot of stuff about how they feel. This video is an example, some of these kid you know obviously don't give a crap. But when you know they see other kid around them cry, they don't want to look bad, so they try to look like they have some sort of sympathy for the victim which is stupid. So youtuber, I hope if this comment help some of you. If not, don't comment.

  • I think this is something that western people should adapt too. Instead of showing little children you know colorful illustration or dora. It lies like, oh your father was a great man, he on his way to heaven. Even though he was never a good man, he a drunk addict and crazy. You shouldn't hid these fact from children who you know obviously was there that one night watching tv, his dad came home from work and hit his mom. I mean, instead of making the truth easier to digest, tell it as it is.

  • how can they really be happy if they dont know Jesus our Lord? they wont be saved by a nice teacher.. he shouldnt be telling them lies like we only have one life and thats it! dangerous brainwashing of little children, disgusting secular bullshit

  • @xjaskix LOL you must be trolling.

  • THIS IS NOTHING LIKE MY ANIMUS

  • @Xello998 humanity is a shit stain on life, my problem with the Japanese is that they have never apologised for their actions.

And I'm not American, assumptions are the mother of all fck ups.

  • @ArseCurtains Why should any modern Japanese person have to apologize for actions that occurred years ago? Would modern Germans have to apologize for the holocaust? It makes no sense. Your problem is a non-issue and sort of a sentimental moot point. It's not "the problem with the Japanese" it's your fucking hang up with the Japanese.

  • @ArseCurtains Neither has the US apologized for anything it does. Who cares? Is an apology going to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside?

  • I want an emo class here in america

  • That teacher is a great man.

  • I saw this and I felt nothing, like I have with many of the painful things either I lack empathy even though alot have gone through my life or its something else. I mostly feel anger and sadness now. I miss feelings =(

  • This should be elementary school, if we had this in the states, maybe we wouldnt have tards on wall st and in congress who only care about money power.

  • stop this is so sad :(((((

  • best teacher in the world

Truly cares about the kids and know how they feel and how to care for them. I wish everybody was like him

  • Those 28 people who dislike this, have such a refined hate. God damn, I wish I could bring myself to be such a high class hater. If only I didn't have this compassion handicap.

  • @RoninRAB Don't sweat it, your self righteousness makes up for your perceived lack of hate.

  • @darthfocus Do you mean self righteous in the bad way? Perhaps you could call me righteous; maybe then the selfish, empty feelings of caring that I feel from this video can become validated? Please, assure me that what I feel is what I feel.

Regardless, I'd argue that my self-righteousness does not make up for my perceived lack of hate. I'd rather be a content hater than the epitome of a self righteous, self loathing individual.

  • @darthfocus And are you saying that since my lack of hate is only perceived, there is still potential that I can hate as I hope to?

  • @RoninRAB They could aspire to your level of refinement.

  • After watching this, I still need to think about those kinda things happening in the documentary "The Cove", and I feel like this country knows nothing :<

  • @bamba1991 bro im with you! "The cove" messed me up, lets save the dolphins!

  • They just have a different approach to society. They place more importance in everyone than themselves personally. This kind of thing is impossible with western people since nobody gives a shit about anyone besides themselves (for most people that is).

  • @4N0081s You're right, unfortunately.

  • Man I don't care if the rest of the Japan isn't like this, this video is extremely inspiring. I would be so happy to grow up in an environment like this.

  • 28 disliking people have no emotional core, no beauty in a life shared with others, no empathy, and that in itself is sad.

  • @BornAgainEngineer ...wow? Really?

  • Affection is just as important as the other primary needs like food. For a healthy and fun life ofc.

  • I thought we were meant to be happy this year :((

  • I think the saddest thing about this is that a old man can have a little girl sit on her lap. Such thing would be considered such a massive no-no in the west, And that's a shame.

  • It's sad to see such pain within children, to see them suffer and lock away their feelings out of fear. I couldn't help but tear up watching this so I have to commend the teacher on his work, helping these kids open up to others.

  • In Japan you also learn how to be a barbarian.

I don't think that many Koreans agree that the Japanese are "compassionate".

  • 2:44 swag.

  • In America, that teacher would get arrested for trying to comfort that little girl.

  • well this video had me in tears within a few minuits heh

  • I want to raise my children in japan

  • i'll like to see them now all grown ups

  • Damn, compared to this my life in primary school was pretty souless and sad, almost like a prision.

  • WHY REDDIT?! WHY DO YOU LINK ME TO TEARS?!?!

  • @Ventorez And why is that? Please indulge us in your thoughts of why the Japanese are the last people who you be teaching the others about love and compassion. Please make yourself sound more redneck, KKK, and dumb than you already are

  • @rocritz I assume he is referring to Japanese War Crimes like the Rape of Nanjing which some in Japan today still deny ever happened. I'm guessing few in the West know too much about what Japan did in WWII, although they do learn about Germany and the Holocaust. So a video like this and the comments of some people is seen as ironic to those who know their history.

  • @bokrso Too bad they don't actually teach what the USA did in WW2. All you morons get is how you saved the planet on your white horses. Nobody talks about all the wars the US starts and how they profit from both sides of every war and kill civilians to do it. Just keep vilifying the rest of the world while you bomb it.

  • @Xello998 Yes and Russia, Britian, France, Germany China, Iran etc. all do the very same thing.

  • @ArseCurtains So why do people keep bringing up obscure events like they're unique? Always these elitest American scrunts with their superiority complexes because deep down they know they and their nation are a shit stain on the planet.

  • @Xello998 Right.. because WWII was an 'obscure' event. At least Germany admits its past, Japan tries to pretend it never happened. Japan still doesn't accept full responsibility for its role in comfort women, or the massacre and rape of countless innocent cilivians throughout Asia. Some of the officers of Nanjing were actually promoted. If you don't think that's wrong, you don't have a heart.

  • @Mobilsmile

Of course it was fucking wrong. But there's barely a country in the world that doesn't have something horrific in its past.

England commited atrocities during colonialisation, and what white Americans did to the native Americans was sick.

Christopher Columbus who is thought of as a great man murdered hundreds of thousands of people...

The Germans killed millions. Mongolians overtook many countries brutally.

No, nobody is free from blame, so let the past be the past.

  • @rosydonut And Americans decided to invade and destroy middle eastern people for money and religious hatred.

  • @Mobilsmile This whole documentary is about finding other ways to solve problems and moving forward. It's not that I disagree with you, rather it's just that @rosydonut is right to some extent. And bringing up WWII on a video not related to it is inappropriate. They're Japanese, yes, but they could easily have been British, Indian, Nigerian etc. People shouldn't be raising it as an issue on a video about learning to care for and understand others; race/WWII is irrelevant here ._.

  • @Mobilsmile Germany admitted to crimes for one reason and that's to get back into the fold of world economics. American soldiers are still raping and murdering people in many countries even to this day. You need to stop worrying about other nations you know nothing about and start worrying about your own nation which you know nothing about.

  • @Xello998 Don't expect them to learn anytime soon, one of the most ignorant nations on this planet!

  • @Nikon05 It's ironic that you call them ignorant, look at your comment...I'm willing to bet most of those kids are smarter than your troll ass.

  • @rsmith1240 Thank you for proving my point

  • @rocritz AMEN! Red necks like him fear these kind of things

  • @Ventorez Obvious troll is obvious.

  • wow these lil japanese fuckers makin a nigga teary. dam

  • @pixxelust Im so glad I watched the whole video before I seen this comment. Laughed for about 5 mins

  • Too bad they didn't have this in 1937.

  • @Aminonoify i like how nobody got that reference at all

  • "When people really listen, they live in your heart forever."

    Super. Absolutely super.

  • Arigato, Kanamori-sensei.

  • This is beautiful, i really wish America's schooling system was better and included this.

  • @IITheoryII Keep dreaming REALLY hard then.

  • @Flakbaitchen obvious troll is obvious.

  • Onions, onions everywhere.

  • @fallenicarus7 T___T those damn onions...

  • The Japanese Mr.Rogers.

  • My grandpa passed when i was in fourth grade, and soon after my grandmother. A few years later my dad. There not much different between you and i.

  • @Diutiful point being? 1.) these children are 2 generations away from those times. 2.) many psychological problems which cause humans to do such atrocities is linked to apathy in not wanting to seem out of the ordinary, i applaud the japanese encouragement of empathy early in life to counter societal effects

  • beautiful

  • he is a genius

  • I guess i gotta move to japan to raise my kids

  • rape of nanking

  • If only we could get the adults to take this class...

  • he's like the japanese mr. rogers

  • Their making me cry....dam if there was a class like this, I might spill a lot of my sadness...

  • That's why over here in America so many people confused about life n distracted taking advantage of ne and everything. I don't wana see this in our future hate , evil!

  • I hate it how children feel so much pain, more then anyone effected. But to see the children's pain be turned to happiness, to understanding and acceptance makes me feel that nothing bad in my life can be worth complaining if children can share and cry freely in front of class mates. He is an amazing teacher. ;_; .

  • Aww...the poor little sweethearts :( I don't like to see them so upset :'(

  • 4:50 and it got to me already

  • These kids will remember this man and pass on his lessons. He is more than a teacher he is a healer.

  • Amazing.

  • awww It always makes me sad when I see a little kid cry

  • I love this :) SO beautiful!!

  • The lessons in life

  • Thank you for putting this up

  • This made me cry.

  • beautiful :)

  • where can i find this in Russian, or with Russian subtitles? i want my mom to watch it but she doesn't know English :S

  • 25 people dun appreciate life

  • 本当に心温まるです .

  • @amshuan - I believe that we are teachers and we are,at the same time, all students in this school of life.

  • I cried through all five videos!I cried with JOY for these children and with HOPE that all children would be blessed to have some one such as this man in their lives! Better yet,I dream of a world where we would all teach in this way!!!

  • Poor Mifuyu HEY i jus notice we never do tht stuff in american's classes.......we should thts why everybody in japan can gt along with each other n everybody in america jus fighting each other I WANT TO MOVE TO JAPAN NOW!

  • @InuYashaClannad This setting does not permeate all classes in Japan; there are classrooms in Japan that are as socially brutal as those in America. It's not so much an issue of Japan vs. West as it is empathy vs ignorance, school setting or otherwise.

  • Like all noble profession, teaching is a calling.

  • It's so shocking to see how close the student/teacher relationship is.

In the "Western Outlook" (Speaking as a teacher) society and the boards scare us into not getting close to children due to "sexual assault charges, etc"

It's heartbreaking when a child comes up to you, with tears running down their faces, and you can't even hug them.

I wish this view was in place, this teacher is phenomenal, and I will strive to be an influential and caring teacher for the future generation of our children.

  • we need more teachers like this around the world.

  • youtube.com/user/AkaKaraEnglish?feature=mhee#p/u/4/ERPcNrao3Kk

  • how i wish i'd had a teacher like that growing up or at least that my kids would have someone like that teacher. this video should be mandatory viewing for all teachers here, so they could learn some compassion, some empathy for their students and not just be this robot, programmed to teach according to a lesson plan, because there are standardized tests to pass.

  • @yuusuga Parents don't want teachers trampling all over their parenting. That's what's wrong.

  • that teacher is a great example!

  • I'm 20 years old and I wish there was a class like this in college.

  • @Knerdzilla dude. i am 41 and i would take that class.

  • I noticed that a lot of the kids had double eyelids :D

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • Finally people who would understand me. Damn my Italian over-sensitiveness!

  • Wow- such beautiful videos in this space!

    Love+ Hugs

    goldringhealingfountain

    xx

  • is it just me or do you find the american guys voice really comforting

  • This video documents a completely atypical, anomaly that happens to occur in Japan. As a high school teacher here who interacts with other teachers at other schools, I can say that I've never heard of this sort of teaching approach in Japan before. If you're thinking or writing, "Why not in my country", you should know it's NOT happening in Japan either. This is the rare gem. You can make one yourself if you 'ganbare'.

  • It is great to see this teacher assisting these kids with developing into compassionate and powerful humans. We need many, many more people like this man in our world.

  • Wow... I feel like a barbarian peasant growing up in America.

  • We have more than one life.

  • @Indulf21

your dead wrong...drop your dumbass religion. go learn and face the painful but enlightening truth that this is the only life we will ever lead. there are no pearly gates or virgins waiting for you lmao like a heavenly place would have virgins just for you. just shows how mans desire is what is projected into the heavenly place

  • @Indulf21 If we do: great, if we don't OK too. The important truth is this is our life right now and we must live this life today.

  • love it, will LIVE it! -Nikhil Sheth, Grade 3 teacher, Teach for India Fellow 2011-13, Pune, India

  • ;( my life

  • This man is so admirable. He's my new hero, this Toshiro Kanamori. You don't see too many like him in this world, so we should do our best to learn from him, ne? Someday, if I ever have a class, I'll do this with all my students...for sure.

  • i think the future of society lies in placing less emphasis on ourselves and more on compassion for others. this goes for businesses and the working world as well. economy for example almost has nothing to do with helping others (as it should) and almost everything to do with selfish interests (capitalists buying cheap labour in order to hoard more money for themselves). I"m glad to see compassion and happiness being taught to kids like this b/c they will decide if society will cont. like this

  • @LastRqss if you guys like this documentary i would recommend checking out Zeitgeist:Moving Forward. its about humans and where we are headed. its hard to sum up completely but it really does put things in perspective. its brand new too and came out this year

  • I think it is good that these children have the possibility to speak out their deepest thoughts to their classmates. Bereavements are a very heavy burden on someone's mind that can't be handled in an easy way.

So, for me it feels like a little therapy that the teacher is going through with the childs. The positive effect is the growing of the children's understanding of life and their social cohesion.

  • I cried with the children, it is so beautiful and inspiring. Compassion and sharing our tender humanity are truly the most important lessons everybody should be taught.

  • i want a teacher like that. he knows exactly what he's doing.

  • This is like REALLY sad..God Bless those children and their country..

  • Wonderful! I wish all the schools would be that way.

  • Wow, I didnt feel sad but before I knew it there was a tear running down my cheek. I was surprised.

  • ive been in japan for 8 years... it isnt a perfect place... but there are really nice people here... funny people... caring and passionate people... a disproportionate amount of sexy ladies (no really its fuckin crazy)... with many rude dickheads too... but it is a nice place. different ways of thinking and doing things but it works okay enough to provide a nice life for those who care to have a nice life... i love it here and thank you for posting this video on another facet of life in japan

  • this video is my psychology practical, weird eh

  • Seems dangerous.

  • very touching, hard to hold tears back

  • What an awesome teacher

  • If your heart is not moved by this, then I think it's safe to assume it is made of stone.

  • That's one way of bringing up kids. Another is to fill their minds with the idea of sin, fill their hearts with guilt and shame and threaten them with eternal damnation unless they submit to some celestial dictator.

  • @DrInfidel Well said, Thank you!

  • @DrInfidel This is not the time or place for agnostic rants and raves. Im jus sayin...

  • This is heart-wrenching but also heart-warming and a little surprising (in a good way.) The people in the far east have always been known for their stoicism and that not "losing face" was one of the most important aspects of their culture. It looks here as if maybe that aspect of their culture is breaking down somewhat, perhaps as a result of the influence of western culture. It would be one of the few aspects of western culture that I would consider to be a GOOD influence on far-easterners.

  • Wow i would never share any of my personal stories to my bad ass teachers i can never trust them to understand it if they were to ask me to share it i will see their requests as jokes, but this teacher is amazing he made everyone in class trust him , more then just a teacher.

  • This video reminds me my teachers.

  • WHOA WHOA WHOA! i did not expect to have tears in my eyes as the little girl talks about her otosan!

  • So much to learn from these children & their homeroom teacher, Toshiro Kanamori. Many times I failed to see who my children can be. This video showed me who they can be. As I finished watching, I remember this quote "Treat a man as he appears to be, and you make him worse. But treat a man as if he were what he potientially could be, and you make him what he should be." The children's "Year End Project" will WOW you. Simplicity with every heart & soul.

    Awesomely Humbly Inspiring

  • cry.............
