Listen to John's amazing performance in "The Fool," a rock symphony that belongs in the pantheon of great musical masterpieces. It's on the Pride of Man album and available for listening on Youtube. Just search for it.
followed John and His various incarnations around SF area till his passing thanks to a chance meeting w/ Barry Melton '87 some of the best tunes/times ever some times you're in the right at the right time thanks John
It didn't matter if the music was coming through the trees in the park and they were playing for free. Or if you were at the botto of the stairs at the fillmore.
You started running and were so excited and in such a hurry to get up front.
And to heck with the free apples.
Thanks John and QMS and Ytube for keeping the memories alive.
the band showed up at a small club in houston the night before a big concert in the Houston coliseum. I was at both shows. They just showed up for free just to jam and hang out. Cipolina was one of the reasons I learned guitar.

I saw Quicksilver play in Berkeley back in, say, 1970, or thereabouts. The auditorium was basically empty, but that didn't stop Cipollina from rockin' the house down.
So glad to see John and QSM are alive and well on YouTube. 45 years later, and when I see a surfer dude in a Quicksilver shirt, it still brings me back to those Fillmore nights.
I wondered why I had not posted how much I love this tribute, then noticed I was the 2nd one, but they slammed the door on the Faroutdog, Doggone it what a Bad thing to do.
Thanks to all of you for taking the time to put up such nice comments ...so so glad there are many who still take the time and care enough to do so.......but most of all thanks to my all time fav musician who has left a whole bundle of lovely followers behind...missing you man...big time.
I saw QMS at Last Days at the Fillmore in 1971. I still listen to the first album often, QMS, often. Cippolina was awesome. So disappointed the reincarnated band was playing here tomorrow night but they canceled for some reason.
Saw John in 1969 when he was with QMS... in a medium/small movie theatre venue. They were phucking awesome! Rocked the joint for an extra hour after what should have been their last set. We miss you John.... you're one of the "Great One's" and no gunslinger can ever take that away from you!
Great tune. Grew up in The City. Saw Quicksilver only once, at the Avalon Ball Room in '67 or thereabouts when I was a lad of 17. (Still have the post-concert poster give-away!) Am a big fan. John gave the band it's unique sound. I play guitar and we often play "Mona". Thanks for posting. And, thank you John for your gift. Jerry
God. Four decades on, he can still give me shivers just slashing off a couple runs. Thanks for posting up these tunes -- and thanks for the great work on the photo collages.
The rock symphony on the back of the Pride of Man album, featuring John Cipollina's uniquely spiritual guitar work, sounds like the theme song for the second coming of Christ. It takes you right into heaven. You can hear the Cherubs and Seraphim.
John Cipollina was innovated, unique, & ahead of his time. He could make sounds live that only could be done with special effects in the recording studio back in the mid 60's. I was fortunate enough to see him play almost every weekend from 1965 till late 1968 with the "Quicksilver Messenger Service". I saw all the greats in San Francisco during the 60's & when Cipollina played, the hair on my neck rose. He was & still is my favorite guitarist of all time.
Wow, that's wonderful, you're a lucky guy. I wish I could rollback and watch these bands at that time, a fantastic era. I was born in the 80's, I dislike most of the music that is produced nowadays and when playing guitar, I prefer the 60's-70's classics. Cipollina forever.

Excellent! My favorite musician. Cipollina’s unique style was custom made to lift me to that high we have been trying to get to all our lives.
