Wow. Really? This movie was art to me. I guess I'm not that surprised at how many people didn't enjoy it because I'm sure the movie is too deep for most people to reach the bottom of. It has many layers. There's a layer paying homage to classic sci-fi, there's a biographical layer about Richard Kelly's own experiences, there's a layer showcasing the downfall of humanity and finally a spiritual and religious/biblical core. To be able to intertwine all that and more, the way he did was brilliant.

This movie is a sick and twisted masterpiece. A couple is visited by what is an Alien or Satan it is never told. The man chooses the wrong path and ends up in Purgatory (HELL). The Boxes of Water are paths he choose to enter hell. The End was not Sad it was sick, the Alien/Satan made him kill his wife to save his son. The whole movie is a sick and Twisted experiment to enter the afterlife. Donnie Darko sucked, Southland tales is garbage, and you guys should be embarressed. Carmen Diaz!!!

idk i liked the movie but i agree that it was too confusing at time with not enough time to explain everything. i'm one of those slow people who needs a thorough explanatiion in order to really understand that but other than that, it really got me thinking and i like it. i would say that the moral of the story is don't be selfish
