Things like this happen on Earth also. The Dogon tribe, for instance had knowledge of Sirius B being a binary star system long before modern technology could prove they were correct. The ancient Sumerians had an accurate depiction of our solar system over 6000 years ago. We humans largely turn a blind eye to such things. It's unfortunate...
@2Lazy4aRealName Not necessarily. I would think Prot's powers could still manifest through the human body if he so willed it. Just my thoughts though:P
up with theories that astounded mathematicians who had been in the field for years. Finally I'll pose a Gregory House argument lets say the chance of an alien showing up on earth and only a doctor and a few mental patients figuring it out is 1/10trillion and I'll say finding someone with a sensitivity to ultraviolet light is 1/million and having someone that smart to figure out the planets is 1/million so together the odds of both are 1/trillion "which makes my idea 10 times better then yours"
Lastely we come to the knowledge of the universe but it was both hinted that Robert Port was very bright and that he had a thing for the stars getting a telescope at a young age. Now people assume because the PHDs had formal training they are smarter the Prot but if one is fairly intelligent, passionate and has time on their hands they can learn/accomplish almost anything take the story of Srinivasa Ramanujan who lived in the middle of nowhere no formal training with simple math books and came
(sorry for the double post had issues) So if we continue with the host-mind idea where Prot is merely using Robert Porters body then he should be limited by Robert Porters body abilities. In other words saying Prot is an alien hosting in Robert doesn't explain his ability to see ultraviolet light. One must also realize they don't really go into the extent that he is capable in fact they sort of say he has a "sensitivity", perhaps this isn't a super ability.
I find your analysis intriguing and actually I am of the opinion that Prot is an alien but let me play Devil's advocate. First lets start with your ending you say Prot goes home, leaving behind his host. This means only Prot's mind travels light which makes a great deal of sense but when you say Prot and Bess use the same method this makes less sense as Bess shouldn't need her human body on K-Pax, in fact her body is probably not suited for the environment.

It makes less sense for the mind of one and the body of the other to transport in the same fashion. Secondly continuing along the body-host logic if Prot is simply using Robert Porter as a host he
1. He pretty much admitted to being the Blue J, watch the movie, you will see what I mean.
2. He can see in a spectrum very few humans in history have every been recorded to see in.
3. He has knowledge of level with Doctors in Astronomy. They even said in the movie only about two people, 5 total, would have had knowledge to what he did.
4. Even in the book they searched for the girl, never could find her. No shelters, nothing.
NO he is not an alien, the movie just did all these unexplainable shit is to trick the audience and not to make sens but in the end he was a human not an alien so it would surprise the dumb audience
Are you suggesting that the screenwriters deliberately contradicted themselves for the sake of an ambiguous conclusion?
You haven't given enough evidence for me to concede that Prot is a human. On the other hand, Prot's ability to see in ultraviolet light, his uncanny knowledge of astronomy and strange disappearances were enough for me to conclude that Prot is an alien.
At the very least, Prot's consciousness was alien in nature.
@QUANTUMJOKER i have an assigment in english class about ambiguity, so we watched the movie K-PAX to answer this question: Do you believe Prot is an alian or is he mentally ill?. the questin has to be answered in 5 paragraphs with 3 reasonings. i chose to believe that Prot IS an alien but i had a little problem puting my reasonings toghether , so just wanted to say that your video made perfect sense to me and it helped a lot organizing my ideas. thanks for an awesome video!! :)
In the movie there was a 70% chance that prot (lower case is correct) was indeed an alien. In the first book it's closer to 50% alien 50% human. I haven't finished reading the other books so can't know give a full opinion yet.
My overall opinion: prot is an alien who took Robert's body for a ride. How else would he have been able to know what he knew?
@TheEgyptianOne it explained the trauma of the human form, but it never explained the exclusive knowledge prog had on things like astrophysics, and the fact that the truth serium and hypnosis wouldnt work on him, all it got out was some memorys from the human host, basicly i thought the movie sujested a alien soul inside of the human body, and after the alien soul was beamed out of the body all that was left was the same traumatized guy that tryed to drown himself after his family was killed
thanks for clearing that up, I just watched it, truly amazing movie, reminds me or "powder" the movie in some senses, so Prot took over the body of the girl at the end correct? the question remains, how would he travel with a human body at a speed faster then light, as he did to "go up north". 1000 star movie and review, O needed yo hear it from some one else, thank you.
I know a few movies have done this- try for ambiguity, but use overly- telling clues. Like if Decker is a replicant made to hunt replicants, why is every other replicant smarter and stronger than him?
Maybe author just wanna give some hope to all audience...
Otherwise it would be just another dissapointing ending.

but if Prot is using a human body, woudn't he see as the host would (aka a human cannot see UV, so Prot can't either?

Prot is a alien, plain and simple.
1. He pretty much admitted to being the Blue J, watch the movie, you will see what I mean.

3. He has knowledge of level with Doctors in Astronomy. They even said in the movie only about two people, 5 total, would have had knowledge to what he did.

Your reasoning doesn't make sense.
Are you suggesting that the screenwriters deliberately contradicted themselves for the sake of an ambiguous conclusion?
