the reason why jimi is awesome, is simply because he never gave a shit about anything. the only thing he loved doing was playing guitar. i dont even think he gave a shit about the audience. he just cared about the sounds he created, because thats the only thing he felt. he didnt care much about politics, management, money. he just cared about women, drugs, and freedom. yea he knew what he was doing, he was having fun. and creating something legendary in the process.
A bit late in replying, but yakwards, your reply to me is nonsensical, and i don't think you even understood my original post. If you are not a native English speaker, I understand. if you are, a quick course on reading comprehension could help.
i must have heard this thousnd's of times and each time i hear it iam breathless, it just blows me away every time, they say that certain types of artist's come but once in a lifetime, but with jimi there will be no other, a one off, freak of nature if you like, his star will always shine.
Heard this track for the first time in a smoky basement, in the early 80's, played at full blast. Lets just say he MoOOved me!
This is one of a handful of songs that sends chills up my spine every time I hear it. Hendrix was a perfect storm: beautiful skewed sense of rhythm, a (super)natural sense of harmony and absolute control of his guitar . Many guys have technique but it is rare that someone takes a tone that is essentially ragged and shapes it into something so jarringly beautiful.
in 1975,,i had heard the name hendrix,,great guitar player etc,,,so i went down to woolworths,,they had a double album,,axis bold as love,,,i couldnt afford that one,,the other one was ,,the band of gypsys live,,so i bought that one,,,went home,,put my head phones on,,and i went into the 5th dimension,,,ive never been the same since !!!
Now imagine if all jimi's performances had been with buddy and billy... and if they all had been with jimi as focused in his music and not so much in the show as it was in this particular gig...
There's those words fantastic, awesome, brilliant and magic and many more that one can read when looking around on stuff here on Youtube. All them words do describe what's goin' on here. It's just fucking amazing that there were some dude at the venue and did get it on tape. Been loving this record ever since I came across it in 1970 when it was released. There's this guy Randy Hansen who is closest to do Jimi-stuff in a proper way, but I would say that no one can do this and get away with it...
@Snake7Plissken randy as had years to perfect his guitar along the lines of jimi, but he will never get there, the reason why i think is jimi played from heart/soul ,very few can do that,.
one thing i always remember bout hendrix is that he did not seem human at times..he was quite small, but he always looked bigger...this was especially when you've seen him come and go..the further away the bigger he looks, other people fade but he stayed the same...look for it you'll see what I mean, Hendrix could be seen from miles away..still being the same.
also he did not walk regularly,he hovered..ask his early buddies..they know....and look for his Swedish son who inhereted it.
One of the greatest moments in the history of the electric guitar! This song is fresh every time that I listen to it - and I listen a lot! Mmmmmmmmmmmm uni-vibe!
See, this is why I love Jimi. It's not enough to say something like "Jimi is so good it's like the guitar is an extension of his body" or something. It's more than that.Just watch him play. It's totally unconscious. It's like he's not even trying.Just like Bach he's channeling the Cosmos. Unlike Bach however, who channels the mathematical, orderly nature of the Cosmos, Jimi channels the chaotic entropy of the Cosmos. It's pure creation and destruction all at once. A sonic kaleidoscope of bliss.
well said jimy has that in him from start and nobody can copy that:) he does it so well :)the mixture of strength and all kind of feelings are just unbelievable !!!
@G3V3S In lame man terms, he has a spiritual kinship with his guitar, and he is totally in touch with his spirit. Thus he is able to express the pure beauty of his human intellect.
@G3V3S honestly i believe that jimi accessed what the chinese call "chi". The concept is that mind and body become one, inseparable, and the connection can never be doubted. Meaning the user needs to have complete confidence in his or her skill, consequently the potential of said skill is infinite and with out boundaries. So i say again, jimi had accessed his chi and infused it into his music, a true master.
With an alchemical mix of Cherokee medicine and Voodoo magic, wielding the hallowed Stratocaster the Six String Warrior unleashes a sea of sonic rage and fury, every soaring note spews forth with a powerful & supernatural ferocity heralding the galactic armageddon to come! The imposing shadow cast by a mountain of Marshalls, valve tubes dripping molten lava, the Celestions thunderous roar! Terrifying screams and cries of hordes of demons vanquished, the Six String Warrior knows no Mercy!
I wonder if Jimi ever fired a machine gun while he was in the 101st Airborne ? If he handled one like he did his guitar he would of been a KILLER !!!!!!!
I remember as a little kid, i used to jump on my parents bed so i can be in view of the mirror on the dresser, and wail on a broom thinking I was jimi Hendrix
truly and completely unbelievable. how do you think of these sounds, this type music, much less play them so perfectly? on 6 strings. even today, accomplished players, studying this, cannot duplicate it. I saw Jimi live, and it was less of a concert than a trip. an amazing ride upon sound. and it changed, or broadened, the way I listened for the better. we were lucky...our Mozart.
pure technician - no box of tricks, no sampling, NO f.k all - just the strat, wahwah pedal and the marshall stack and a technicians understanding of feedback - pure brilliance.
Machine Gun and Hear My Train (almost any well recorded version will do) are two of the best live musical works in the history of Man. When Jimi said that he was trying to awaken the sleeping people, I'm sure he could have never imagined just how deeply asleep we (as a culture) would go. Cry for us all, as Jimi must be now. Peace, Love and all that good shit!
@JimmyMarshall27 Right on! someone that listened to what the man had to say! Hendix had his head in the right place. Kudo's to you, jimmy marshall27 for your comment
@1joeking1 Jimi was way ahead of his time in his ideas. He had a deep concern for social injustice and was predicting (in a global way) the kinda mess the Earth is in. I believe his ideas are as important as his music. Thanks.
GO ON, ADMIT IT!! ROCK Guitarists all around the world Knows that it was This man that Changed everything, he was and still IS the reason we have an amazing rock institution,
If you disagree then maybe you cannot feel music, and you should not be in the buisness at all,
I dont know a damn thing about playing the guitar but the way Jimmy played was almost spiritual ....incredible and the hasnt been another like him yet.
That Little Tweek with the whammy Bar at 7:13 or 14 just makes that note moan , that brillant Technique is what sets Jimi apart from other guitar players.
@yogikori There's no question...never again to be created this powerfully. We'd need the awful confluence of another Vietnam war, a return of a hippie vibe in the world as a result to that, and an unimaginable 'nother genius, and maybe the new amps and guitars wouldn't allow it too.
Billy also released an album in Nov. I don't have it yet but read it's pretty much straight blues. Yes you can buy this footage. Quite a bit of footage on this and Who Knows on the BoG documentary. "Happy New Years first of all..."
What can I say?? this is simply bloody awesome, have been listening to this on vinyl for years great to see it performed live, that guitar is an extension of Jimmy's soul. Thanks
@fingling8 Nope.. this Vid of Hendrix is The One..Some say the Best version of Machine Gun Hendrix ever did. December 31st at the Filmore East. Rare to say the least and still haven't figured out where the Poster got the Video. On the Authorized release of Hendrix Filmore East Machine Gun Footage is broken up..So again, Many thanks to the Poster and Again Does anyone know what DVD this is on?
@dino6888 Judging by the quality, I'd say it's private footage. As far as I know there is no DVD with footage from Hendrix' performance on the Fillmore East.
@hafrox There Is about 3/4's of the song on Hendrix band of Gypsys Live at the Filmore East 1999 Official release but is more like a Documentary. That release is shot from about the angle this is shot from. Judging from the Postion i doubt its just private. However, there are some Boots out there so one never knows. The Hendrix estate is re-releasing in April the Filmore East performance so Hopefully they'll cut out the Bombs..They do have have the Entire two performances on Film.
@dino6888 Hendrix' Fillmore East performance is quite possibly the greatest live guitar performance in the history of rock - I sure hope the Hendrix estate decide to release the entire footage as a DVD.
I can not even begin to describe how much i LOVE this...i have no words..
One of the most beautiful emotional epic magic historic legendary pieces of music ever played on this here planet..
Nobody even comes close..
Forever in our hearts brother..
I'm gonna play this at New Years Eve to welcome the new year;a tradition of mine since 1980 when i became EXPERIENCED for the 1st time ..it changed my life forever...
@mrgone2a Billy Cox (Band of Gypsys bassist) is alive, well! He tours "The Experience Hendrix Tour" each year and he also put together a New Band of Gypsys, featuring himself on bass and vocals, Byron Bordeaux on guitar and vocals, Vincent Fults on guitar and vocals and Gary Skipper on drums.
Hard to believe it's 42 years old...PURE feeling/emotion.Jimi goin thru The Panther thing 'n all and just lettin' go...3:58 busts my nuts.Imagine if they had locking tremolos back then ...
If there ever is a time machine invented and they don't use it to go back and catch this show they should do the civil thing and blow their brains out.
" I ain't afraid of you bullets no longer, baby...I ain't afraid no more.... After a while.... your, your CHEAP TALK don't even cause me pain. So let you bullets fly like rain...
Cause' I know all the time you WRONG baby... and you be BLOWN 'way just the same
... three times the pain, and YOUR OWN SELF to blame...
.........MACHINE GUN....
You both are everything this gift-of-a-man never wanted. You both should be ashamed of yourselves.

@jloch85 That Note Stunned The Whole World.
shaserv 2 months ago
@jloch85 dude the most powerful note is when his fingaz hit the strings!
gsk312 2 months ago
@jloch85 In fact, guitarists simply refer to it as "the note."
rosswhitakerguitar 1 month ago
@rosswhitakerguitar Quite similar to the "brown note", I'd say.
hafrox 1 month ago
@jloch85 sustain was never a problem for Hendrix! he could have held that note for hours!!!!

@jloch85 no truer words were ever said my friend..my 11yold son stopped what he was doing to watch that moment..that says it all

A masterpiece that can never be created again in the histroy of music.. RIP Jimi Hendrix
yogikori 2 months ago
@yogikori There's no question...never again to be created this powerfully. We'd need the awful confluence of another Vietnam war, a return of a hippie vibe in the world as a result to that, and an unimaginable 'nother genius, and maybe the new amps and guitars wouldn't allow it too.

no one else can make a guitar scream like jimi

From the point of view of a Guitarist, I find this to be the best version of Machine Gun.
GALACTICGATE1111 2 months ago
Billy also released an album in Nov. I don't have it yet but read it's pretty much straight blues. Yes you can buy this footage. Quite a bit of footage on this and Who Knows on the BoG documentary. "Happy New Years first of all..."

@fingling8 Nope.. this Vid of Hendrix is The One..Some say the Best version of Machine Gun Hendrix ever did. December 31st at the Filmore East. Rare to say the least and still haven't figured out where the Poster got the Video. On the Authorized release of Hendrix Filmore East Machine Gun Footage is broken up..So again, Many thanks to the Poster and Again Does anyone know what DVD this is on?
dino6888 1 month ago
@dino6888 Judging by the quality, I'd say it's private footage. As far as I know there is no DVD with footage from Hendrix' performance on the Fillmore East.
hafrox 1 month ago
@hafrox There Is about 3/4's of the song on Hendrix band of Gypsys Live at the Filmore East 1999 Official release but is more like a Documentary. That release is shot from about the angle this is shot from. Judging from the Postion i doubt its just private. However, there are some Boots out there so one never knows. The Hendrix estate is re-releasing in April the Filmore East performance so Hopefully they'll cut out the Bombs..They do have have the Entire two performances on Film.
dino6888 1 month ago
@dino6888 Hendrix' Fillmore East performance is quite possibly the greatest live guitar performance in the history of rock - I sure hope the Hendrix estate decide to release the entire footage as a DVD.
hafrox 4 weeks ago
@hafrox I agree..Grab the 99 release. Has most of the concert on DVD

The Band of Gypsies. They're all gone now. R.I.P. Still love this after 40 years.
mrgone2a 2 months ago
@mrgone2a Billy Cox (Band of Gypsys bassist) is alive, well! He tours "The Experience Hendrix Tour" each year and he also put together a New Band of Gypsys, featuring himself on bass and vocals, Byron Bordeaux on guitar and vocals, Vincent Fults on guitar and vocals and Gary Skipper on drums.

If there ever is a time machine invented and they don't use it to go back and catch this show they should do the civil thing and blow their brains out.
