I have to comment this again.... This was real music back in the 80's now there is noise... Anybody know the guitarists in Grand Zaiko - I know Pepe Manuaku - bandleader - soloist.
Singers were Shimita, Djo El, Djeffard Lukombo, Late Djo Poster
I'm just sick and tired hipster lemming music traps. Why listen to vampire weekend when you could listen to real African music? I've heard their album, its ok and definately not great. I just find the way people are proping up Vampire weekend to be a bit disingenuous, they'll be last year's indie flavour by the end of this summer and which band will be next?
Chances are youre right. Most of the new "indie" bands are searching for the best way to make the easy buck. In this case it's exploiting a form of music that is relatively unknown in America. But there's a possibility that Vampire weekend is just trying to blend 2 types of music they like and just play around with this mix. Let them have their moment in the sun: Kwassa kwassa will live on and vampire weekend might be remembered as the band that tried to connect both worlds here in the US.
aku suka deh, i like it, thx for the video, now i can make my homework! :)
