  • neat form, good flow and well connected. Relax shoulders lift head and strike from the skeleton. What style is this from

  • I learned this form about 5 years ago but i forgot how to do it. Thank you for posting this. Now i can look at your form and practice again. Where did you study Choy Lay Fut?

  • Pain in the ass if your opponent had a bow / crossbow and was a decent shot.

  • nice form.........im learning this form now........can serve as a good study guide

  • is this the 13 spear form?

  • Thats pretty epic.

  • ahhhh icic well the spear was the first ever wapon i used and i automaticly loved it its my favorit weapons next to tonfas. i take classes on it whenever i can. id like to see more videos i tryd to replicate the form but its hard when u have no spear and u r in a little computer room lol post some more so i can see =)

  • i like your foot form =] its very explosive lots of very nice ankle work ...just a tad past basic footing ... i practice bamboo club staff ...if u arnt aware of them they are a long staff (6-12 feet normally mine is roughly 8 1/2 ft) and it is skinnier on one side than the other and the fat side is hallowed out and filed with lead in one chamber giving it a awesome balence for it to spin on and a nice hard abrupt stop when it strikes ...ill get some videos up asap

  • @ubejim4 id love to see those videos i use a roughly 6 1/2 foot metal s[ear with an iron head its a little heavy but i find if u get going fast enough and your hand placement is good enough manipulations come very easy with it

  • @screbel25 im a very little guy so lugging my staff is tiresome ...but its fairly light on your muscles ...it dosnt weigh too much but contradicting arm movements can really tear up you triceps with the length of the weapon but that just equals power in defensive water stances (middle grip)... im really jealous of your foot work tho i dont have any spring in my knees and my ankles i mosly roll on my heels and toes and end up spining a little too much but im working on it

  • very good

    but one thing...

you hand should always be at the end of the spear when stabbing

    open your bo-stance

relax and keep your body free then you can extend the range your spear techniques

it makes a huge difference in your form

  • lower stances,

    hehehe

  • He is right, relaxt you're shoulders and one more thing :), work on you're mabu and try to be fluid with you're muves. It looks verry good though, keep it going

  • looks fine..the guy below me has no idea what he is talking about...

only comment- relax your shoulders more...you look a little stiff..

    the movements are good though.

  • Sorry if I offend some of you guys but, is this part of Chinese Wushu?

  • jeffdoeskungfu ur supposed to thrust with ur ahh i forgot the word but im right handed so i thrust with my right hand u get wut im saying now lol

  • take a look in this video:

    on youtube dot com

    /watch?v=Y96Ru2sldt4 (put youtube.com)

This is a choy lay fut spear form from the Grand Master Tat Mau Wong's family..

  • Great

  • Work on speed and relaxation. Shoulders down. Not too bad at all though really... keep it up!

  • Interesting... I see that you have your right hand forward and thrust with your left hand. From previous experiences, I always thought the left hand goes in front and you thrust with your right. Just wondering, but is this something unique to your style or is this videoed in mirror perspective? I'm confused.

  • Possible double post...

From what I understand, the left handed thrust is characteristic of Southern spear sets, while Northern spear sets employ more right handed thrust. Our lineage of Choy Lay Fut does have some right handed spear sets, however I think they might have been influenced by Shek Kin (Mr. Han from Enter the Dragon) who practiced Northern styles, as he was one of Sigung Lee Koon Hung's teachers.

  • @jeffdoeskungfu This is the Choy Lay Fut Plum Flower 13 Spear. Southern kung fu practioners usually have their right hand forward with long weapons. Northern stylists have their left hand in front. In CLF....which is more southern influenced....we have left and right hand forward forms and forms which have a combination of both. Btw, the guy did the form very well.

  • wat school are u from?

  • very stiff in the shoulders,, some of your foot work is wrong and you have left out several movements,,,,,how long are you training? less than a year..keep at it everything takes time

  • very nice

post up some more vids when you have the chance

    nath

  • "Im not much of a martial arts expert, but ive always been curious, wouldn't it be hard to stab someone with a flexible weapon cause it would bend?"

-hwiho2002 (My bad, I accidentally removed this comment)

  • No, a spear isn't exactly a flexible weapon. Sure it bends when you swing it down hard ("saht cheung") but its made of bamboo, it should stab pretty well. "Flexible weapons" actually refers to chain whip, three-section staff, nunchaku, etc. I'll post a video of me stabbing something (like a tree) if you'd like. But, no, it stabs perfectly fine :D

  • @lianweijun086 Well the "suppleness" of the spear, I would imagine, would aid in piercing through more. If a direct thrust meets armor, the spear would bend a little, adding more pressure to the point of contact. The spear then as two options (three under extreme pressure, resulting in breaking.) Either the tip would move around to relieve pressure, or through. The ideal result would be of course through.

  • @lianweijun086 u should put the video up of u stabin a tree i wana see it to

  • @lianweijun086 I think you mean Wawwood or whiteoak instead of bamboo, but I agree with the rest of what youre saying

  • @lianweijun086 Hi. In Wushu Exhibitions, we use the flexible one, (eg: Broadsword, Spear, Staff etc.). But in Real Fight Situation, we use the one harder and sharper.

  • We started Choy Let Fut not too long ago.

www.iawushu.com IF you have some site that would be great. So far I love it. it seems like a very complete style. nice northern kick mixed with southern hand.

  • lawl, den u would love our kung fu club. Northern legs Southern fists. We do Traditional Hung gar kung fu and lion dancing =D

  • nice. do you have any other choy lee fut videos?

  • no, not yet, but I plan to put some up.
