Those weren't whole families in the traffic. It was a bunch is tough as nails truck drivers. Please, please research a story a little more. NPR rules!

That is a HORRIBLE traffic jam. It reminds me of an old latin-american story (I think it was Gabriel Garcia Marquez) where he chronicled the story of a bunch of people who were stuck in a weeks long trafic jam.

After the collapse, the economy expands again as long as there is still capital in the country. In case of US the capital is not there. Cash is there, but capital is not cash, it's production capacity, and that's gone.

In Pennsylvania when the highways were shut for 3 days because of a blizzard this past winter, the national guard were on snow mobiles trying to get supplies to everyone who was stranded. You do realize, that while this is bad news for the people on the road, the reality is that there is a huge economic boom in China, that's why their infrastructure is less and less capable of dealing with it. Jobs, it's all about jobs. There ain't no such thing as a 'jobless recovery'.

@romanmir01it's not necessarily the case in the countryside where the boom has still yet to hit. But as far as China's booming economy goes I think it is great. However, the cautionary tale is to enjoy it while it lasts because booms don't last forever.

@gregwi562 Booms last as long as economy can expand in terms of supporting the dead weight, like government structures and corporate fat, and then they collapse, and the size of collapse is very related to the amount of fat and dead weight.
After the collapse, the economy expands again as long as there is still capital in the country. In case of US the capital is not there. Cash is there, but capital is not cash, it's production capacity, and that's gone.

@romanmir01 The point was that expansions don't last forever. There are always going to be slowdowns and dips. As you pointed out the US is not exempt for that law, now is Japan, the UK and the rest of the EU. And nor will China. Even though they still have a lot of growth to go, it is foolish to think that such high growth rates will go on perpetually.

As far as the implications of what you say goes, China seems to defy all logic because the government is the main force running the economy there. China not only is beating the hell out of the US at its own game, but the government of China has been central to its growth.

Sure, their gov't is oppressive, but their economy will boom despite their gov't, not because of it, much like it happened in the US after the WWII and up to Nixon, who started killing economy again with all the crazy regulations, wage controls, price controls, etc.

During Mao in China party there was no FOOD for people, they were starving
China's economy started picking up once the USSR fell apart and jobs came from the West. Read up

@romanmir01 During the time of Mao capitalism was not allowed. It was permitted under Deng Xiapeng in 1978. Over the next decade or so their economy grew gradually until the early 1990s when the economy took off which was most due to American and European investment and trade deals with China. The USSR & China were not huge trading partners. The fall of the Soviet Union had nothing to do with China's subsequent economic success. Nothing.

Nixon restarted trade with China, but the reason for Chinese economy to start booming was the collapse of the USSR, which kicked the global trade into high gear.
Before the USSR collapsed, China would have never been able to deal with western nations, and you are wrong about USSR/China trade.
The party is allowing 'capitalism', but in reality is stifles it by corruption and cronyism, the economy of China depends on cheap labor

@romanmir01 Nixon opened relations with China. Some trade did occur but it really did not pick up until the Reagan & 1st Bush Administrations when they were granted most favored trading status.
China was never a satellite for the USSR. China was socialist but the early 1960s they were no longer aligned with the Soviet Union and went their own way.
All this is verifiable historical fact by the way. Please don't give me your opinion and just up or get a few books on the subject.

What you do not understand is the ties between the leaders of the Communist party, China would not trade with the West in any real way if USSR was still around and not because of its 'satellite' status, which is nonsense.
It's because of the cold war, ever heard of it? Cold war was profitable but it also kept the production within the USA. Without cold war, USA labor became exportable, and China became receptive.

China was on one side with USSR in that conflict and USA had over-employment based on Cold War production alone, never mind it had a positive trade balance with its allies.
