@taranchula97 Yea, Jerry Punch does Suck at commentating...and he pisses me off the most when he says "with XX laps AGO"....it's "laps TO GO" you dumbass!! ESPN blows...Fox is the best.
I don't think Dick was being mean, I just think he was a little excited about the incident and about interviewing Kasey, especially because of where Kasey's car finished wrecking.
man that guy interviewing kasey was a little mean cause at the start kasey said "it's fun all day....uh just"the reporter said" i mean now? quite mean rite he the reporter was asking how is it like out there i wish he could shut his mouth already.
Fifteen years ago this argument would have been about between CART and F1. If I were a NASCAR fan I would take it as a compliment that narrow minded F1 fans now see NASCAR as their biggest threat ;]
@PinkRob0t: How many open-wheel drivers have come to NASCAR? Let's count: Montoya, R. Gordon, Speed, Franchitti (only 2008), Carpentier, Hornish Jr., Allmendinger, a few races for Villeneuve, Danica... I may have forgotten someone... NASCAR is now a BIG threat for open-wheel racing... If I remember, Castroneves was also driving IROC, a stock car type series...
@PhilipTheBigOne Tony Stewart came from the IRL, so did Scott Pruett (only 2000, still runs a few Cup road races), Jimmy Vasser ran a few Nationwide races back in '03, Nelson Piquet Jr is driving in the Truck Series full-time in 2011, and hearing Dan Wheldon may be going to Kyle Busch's truck team for a race or two next year
If your Kasey Kahne who would have though riding around coming off turn 4 at 190MPH that in exactly 1 minute he would be giving an interview walking up pit road
In this incident, they all got bunched up trying to pass the lap car of Jimmy Kitchens to the right. Its hard to go five wide without wrecking at that area. Kitchens was in the #39 Yahoo! Ford for Jay Robinson Racing.(purple car with a Y! in a white circle on the hood) Ironicaly, the next year, he came back in the same car (only diferent # and paint scheme) to finish 15th on the lead lap. Only reason he did was he was too slow to be involved in any of the wrecks that day lol.
This crash looks like the big one that I had in NASCAR 08 but it was inm the cup series and it involved 30 cars and 2 cars flipped upside down which was David Ragan and J.J. Yeley!!!
Maybe that's it! Yes - now I get it. Americans need heroes to admire. So if somebody crawls out of his car after a 200 mph crash, they cheer up because they have a new hero! Wow... maybe there's a little psychologist in me. You can call the "9/11 heroes" heroes if you want. But wouldn't it be enough to just thank them ONCE? Nah - not in the USA! And the stories are worth billions... let's not go that down the drain ;-)
F1 Might be an extreme, but as for the Worlds Best Drivers, it's iffy. If you took a good look at NASCAR, anyone who is good any more is between 20-30 years of age, there are a few exceptions. No we don't consider a driver surviving a 200 MPH crash a hero. We are happy he is okay. NASCAR takes skill, just ask Juan Pablo Montoya
Moneoya is a good example. He's got loads of talent, very good car control. We saw in F1, too. But extreme means also, that the driver have to focus 100% whatever they do. They have to stay physically fit (VERY fit) to keep a car like that on the road and at the limit for almost 2 hours!
The performance of those cars is really extreme. Breaking power, the downforce that provides tremendous grip. Plus the weight of the car is probably half of the weight of a NASCAR. The heavier the car the slower it gets. In comparison with a F1 a NASCAR is more like a truck.
The driving is one thing. The set up the other. F1 cars are so difficile, there are just a few drivers who can give the engineers the right feedback in order to make the car quicker. Senna, Schumacher and Alonso had/have that special something. Montoya is fast - but not consistent and he's not that "developer" like Alonso. F1 requires a whole and perfect "package".
That's why there are just a few really exceptional drivers (usually just one in 10 years) who can become the best in F1. I don't say that a monkey can drive a NASCAR. But believe me: None of them would succeed in F1. Montoya didn't like F1 anymore because the effort he put in didn't pay off. It can get frustrating if you don't give what others are willing to give to get to the top and stay at the top.
Action - thats' what Americans wanna see when they go to the races. Grandpa's in heavy cars. If one dies it's a huge tragedy and America mourns for that "hero". If there's no "action" (accident) the crowd is disappointed... pretty weird "racing" going on over there. Wonder if anybody heard of Lewis Hamilton yet!
We know who Lewis Hamilton is, We know who Schumacher is, and you should know who Earnhardt is. Grandpa's heavy cars provide more excitment than those Light, Traction Controled machines. We can appriciate your style of racing, so appriciate ours.
Nascar is show - Formula 1 Motorsport. OK I admit that alot of stupid political games are going on in F1 but that doesn't change the fact that the drivers are the best in the world. And I like seeing the best guys fighting for the victory. Nascar makes a huge amount of money. It's a great show for Americans. But knowing that I'm not watching the BEST drivers makes it so boring!
It's not the "style" of racing. It's the quality. F1 is extreme. No it's not as "fast" as dragsters (another American "thing" starring retired millionaires). But it pushes the drivers to their limits. Constantly. A reason why there's no 40 year old guy in F1.
Maybe you can tell me what's so exciting about Nascar racing. As I said - you do not watch the best drivers! So where's the thrill?
You're a dumbass! NASCAR didn't start out with millionaires! It started as moonshine running in the south. Want proof, ask Junior Johnson! F1 isn't exciting at all! There's no side-by-side racing, which is what makes NASCAR exciting!
Racecar my ass! Single file isn't "racing"! It's boring, is what it is! Besides, open wheel cars have all of those assists, so they're not "real" racecar drivers!
F1 doesn't have the best drivers in the world! IROC did! HENCE the name "International Race of Champions". If F1 had the best drivers in the world, why did Schumacher win all of the time!? There's no parody which makes it boring as fuck. At least here in NASCAR, we have first time winners every year and exciting new rookies. I'll even go so far as to say that the IRL is better than F1, even though it's open wheel as well, but they run on ovals so they do have some side-by-side.
F1 can say they have some of the best drivers in the world. The problem is that only 2 or 3 teams have the money to put out the best cars in the world, and with the technology involved in F1, you dont need that talent.
Schumacher was very talented, and putting him in a car that was probably one of the best constructed cars in its time, thats just asking for a season that might as well be called, and him being crowned champ.
Why do you post so many times to come to your point. The #1 thing NASCAR has over Formula 1, and even Montoya can agree to this is that NASCAR has more personality.
It's because NASCAR is "fan driven". It's all about merchandising. F1 needs fans too. But they don't rely on fans spending a trillion dollars on T-shirts and other crap. The fans watch F1 because it's the most professional series with the best drivers. More personality YES! Quality (racing itself) stands for F1.
I meant NASCAR with "more personality". JPM likes NASCAR better than F1. I wouldn't call him loser. He's a really fast F1 driver. But he ain't got all the "ingredients" that would make him a champion.
this was a good race right up to the end, awesome racing, it was a suprise that the big one didnt happen in the first 15 or so laps like the two previous years, they started wrecking earlie again the next year though lol
The NASCAR I remember.
