OMG!!!! I have been looking for this show for YEARS!!!! I couldn't find anybody else that remembered the "guy crawling through the log with the guitar," because that's all I knew! I am so excited to finally have a name to go with it! Thank you!!!!!!!
I like this outro, but I don't like how it cuts out the final seven seconds towards the tail-end of this fantastic guitar playing! It would also be fantastic to see all of Fred Penner's Place episodes back-to-back on DVD & Blu-Ray & online as well!!!
i couldnt think of the name of this show for anything.Im 25 and i had to be pretty young when i was watching this i just remember when he used to sing happy feet anybody no where i can find the scene for that
I got to speak with Fred Penner last night at a theater in winnipeg where he was a special guest, he's such a local celebrity, its was cool to meet him, he showed me how to play "cat came back" song, and he's a super nice guy!
I have thought about this show over and over throughout the years. Mainly, just the cool grove that can only be accessed via the hollow log tunnel. I used to think that was cool as shit. I didn't know the name of the show so I couldn't easily look it up but I finally had a breakthrough today by finding a list of Nick Jr shows on Wiki. I'm 24, so it is finally great to lay this question to rest after 20 years... God, I feel old.
I watched this every day as a kid! And I finally got to meet Fred Penner just over a year ago - he signed my cassette tape copy of The Cat Came Back. :D He's such a nice, wonderful person, just as I'd always imagined him! Thank you so much for posting this!
no, you know the twang sound...listen at about 12, 15, 51 and 55 secs...the sound that comes right after each, that twangy jaw-harp as Harvick called it. Used to think it said something related to the show when I was younger, but then I had enough problems w/out asking my mom what the sound was "saying" on tv. She might have thought I was wacko.
Ah the other great show that used to be Nickelodeon..Fred Penner rocked man! I e-mailed last year, and he responded the same day...one of my heroes for sure!
It's cool how CBC used Childres entertainers from all across Canada and allowed them to gain a national audience in the 1980's. I remember watching Fred Penner (from BC) as well as Mr Dressup and Sharon, Lois and Bram (all of whom I believe were from Ontario?).
Something I noticed was the abundance of Canadian content for children in the 1980s. We had some really great shows (including the canadian Sesame Street, Mr. Dressup, Umbrella Tree, Romper Room, Raccoons, You cant do that on Television) that were all produced in Canada without making everyone know they were Canadian.
I wonder if the canadian crap on treehouse will ever have the same impact these shows did?
That is totally Old Pinawa dam from :18-:28, before it became a Provincial Heritage Park. I grew up in Lac du Bonnet so I know it is for sure! Very cool! Thanks again, Retro. I also love the boing's it was mos def my fave part of the intro/outro music!
I was always sad when this show was finished.

@itsbankaibitch That's awesome! I always heard "Innerspace" at the end of this too. The random Boi-oi-oi-oi-oi-ng reminds me of Beavis and Butt-head!

Anyone know what that forest is that Fred is hiking through when he stands on the rock??
How about when he walks with that walking stick??
Or that waterfall??
Where is it??
Fred makes hiking look enjoyable!

Oh well, he must have been tired of living in a log!

They should have done without the beach intro and outro.
They should have left this original intro, original outro in.
Loved this melody too as well.
Some things are best left unchanged.
Like this fantastic theme.

I only knew of half hour eps.

I think I finally figured out what the twangy guitar seems to sound like it's "saying"... "Penner's Place."
greatestgoalie25 4 years ago
it says "Fred Penner's Place"...gotta love the ol' jaw harp!
Harvick3829 3 years ago
yah, that thing used to bug me as a young kid, I was always trying to figure out what it sounded like.
greatestgoalie25 3 years ago
Do you mean that sound that sounds like whispering throughout the song?
happy7117 3 years ago

greatestgoalie25 3 years ago
I know exactly what you mean. It comes right after the twang sounds at 12, 15, 51, and 55 sec. marks as greatestgoalie25 said.
Maybe what I am hearing is something different after the 12, 15, 51, 55 sec jaw harp sounds than what you are all hearing.

The closing theme must have been filmed in many outside places on different days cause of Fred's change of clothes! Noticably the striped blue shirt!
And then all edited together?

Alot of interesting places in the closing theme...
Anyone know where or what waterfall is at :57??
What about that fantastic aerial view at :19-:28!!
Was somebody filming that from a helicopter or plane??
happy7117 4 years ago 6
I love the guitar along with the twangs, and the footage is perfect.
Wish I had an MP3 of this closing theme.

I LOVE this ending music so much better than the beach outro!
Have not seen this outro since like 1992!
I think the boing sounds are from a jaw harp.
