  • RIP Nicholas Courtney. Only the death of Sir Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart could have convinced the Doctor to trudge off to his own appointed murder. For all the threats to Earth that he fought, its strangely fitting that Sir Alistair passed away in quiet, comfortable surroundings. I wonder if Doris died before him and if his daughter Kate (from Downtime) put him in that care home. So long, Brigadier. You may be gone, but never ever forgotten.

  • We lost 2 great performers whose shoes can never be refilled.....but if by chance they find a actor/actress double, I hope that he or she gives them the respect to their characters role and keep their spirit alive....

  • " sargeant benson, that chap with wings. five rounds rapid! "

  • @GayWorldOrder

I thought your comment was fitting and touching until I read the Tom Baker 'quip' which is in poortaste.

    What's wrong with you?

  • So glad they acknowledged his death in Doctor Who - was a touching, sad moment, and the Doctor looked heartbroken.

  • What a wonderful man. A true gentleman.

  • A nice tribute.

  • I had no idea! Really sad to hear the Brig has finally passed away. The song says it all. THE BEST!! We had a 6.3magnitude earthquake here in Cristchurch on the same day he died which is so freaky. I guess I missed it on the news at the time because we had no power for ages. Funny way to find out. So many great memories of the Brig down the years - he helped Dr Who carry on for so long. At least we have all his old stories and interviews to remember how great he was!

  • D'=

  • First Nicholas and then Elisabeth ;_;

  • I really hope that at the end of The Impossible Spaceman there is a "Nicholas Courtney 1929-2011". He deserves this as he was such a big part of the show.

  • r.i.p Nicholas

  • Very moving tribute. I had the good fortune to meet Nicholas Courtney at a convention in Weston Super Mare six years ago. He was a truly lovely man, an absolute gentleman, not to mention a fine actor who created the most memorable character in Doctor Who, beyond question. A wonderful legacy he has left behind, R.I.P.

  • Farewell Nicholas Courtney, You will be missed greatly. *Salute* RIP

  • My earliest memories of Dr Who are of Jon Pertwee and Nick Courtney. Might be too late to get a mention in this years series, but hopefully there'll be a reference in the Christmas Special, or a dedication at the very least. You can't think of Dr Who without thinking of The Brig!

  • @Sasseb1967 yea:)

  • Really beautiful tribute to a really important part of Doctor Who. RIP BRIGADIER.

  • omg im actually really sad :'(

  • He was a fine chap!

  • The Brigadier was one of the greatest characters in Doctor Who history, and that all worked because of Nicholas Courtney's brilliant acting. RIP.

  • Beautiful tribute.

    He will be sadly missed

  • Old soldiers never die, they just fade away :-)

  • I smile when i think maybe William, Patrick and John were there to meet him on the other side.......you can just imagine Nicks Words :)

  • Very sad to hear of his death. He was an 'on Screen' childhood friend to us all.

R.I.P Nick, Thankyou for the Adventures :'(

  • Splendid fellow. All of him.

Now he's off to meet a "chap with the wings there" who won't require any shooting at.

RIP, and I salute you, Mr Courtney.

  • Thanks! Great vid!

  • In the very short time of me being introduced to Doctor Who, I honestly think that The Brigadier was the best companion The Doctor ever had, and Nicholas Courtney played the role so wonderfully his departure from this world will make the TARDIS seem just a little bit more empty. A Five Rounds Rapid salute in honor of this great man who has provided so many hours of entertainment and may he rest in peace.

Wonderful chap. All of him. 1929-2011

  • Even thought i have been a doctor who fan for a year now. I can't see a world without the brig. Godspeed sir from waltnasa texas biggest doctor who fan

  • What is it people have against MAWDRYN UNDEAD? Ignored again!

  • LEGENDS DONT EVER DIE

  • What an actor what a man u will be missed from bottom of all doctor who fans :(

  • "You saw the Master in a dream, A dream? Really, Doctor, you'll be consulting the entrails of a sheep next"

RIP Brig, a proper legend, so many happy hours watching your episodes.

  • If you hear thunder down here, don't worry. It's just Pat, Jon, & Nic stirring up a little trouble behind the pearly gates. Godspeed, Brig.

  • I salute you and Godspeed

  • The best reoccurring character on Doctor Who. R.I.P Sir.

  • Brigadier ........ You will be missed.

  • I hope they acknowledge this in the next series. They'll probably dedicate an episode to him like they did Verity Lambert.

  • R.I.P. Brigadier

    *salutes*

You were a fine fellow and will be missed by all

  • UNIT won't be the same without you!

  • Lovely tribute.

    Bye Brigadier.

  • Nicholas Courney will be sadly missed by all. R.I.P Brigadier Alastair Lethbridge-Stewart. my favourite character of Doctor who

  • RIP Nicholas aka Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart!!

You will be sorely missed, and duly remembered as this honourable character.

Nicholas Courtney was a great actor, and I am shocked that it wasn't announced in the news.I only heard about him passing away from one of my cyberspace friends.UNIT won't be the same without him!

He won't be forgotten either, as I have some Dr Who dvd stories that he's in :)

  • RIP Nick. Great man.

  • @Ravingbadger1 I recommend you read the Doctor Who Magazine Comic story 'The Warkeeper's Crown'. This was the latest and now likely last Comic story to feature the Brigadier. It features David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor (in pen and ink of course) and is in many ways the reunion that we never got to see onscreen. Would it have killed Russell T Davies to have inserted him (and perhaps Jenny) into 'The End of Time' somehow? Anyway, the last panel of that story tears me up, now more than ever.

  • RIP, Nick Courtney. I liked Bret Vyon and the beloved Brig will always be my favourite character in the Whoniverse. Carry on in that big UNIT Base in the sky (not the Valiant), Brigadier. I salute you!

  • RIP Nicholas, you were amazing and an inspiration to us all :( xx

  • poor music choice, but nice video :)

  • Goodbye Nicholas.

I caught a glipse of him once afew years back in Barking in a shop called 10th Planet before it closed down, he was in the back room signing Autographs, about 20 feet infront of me, but i didint want to disturb him so i left him to carry on with signing Autographs or whatever exactly he was doing when i noticed him.

  • i wish i could find the clip from the 5 drs where troughton says now brigadier have i ever lied to you? brig says repeatadly dr pat says well this will be the exception, one of my fav memories of nick courtney and i may have gotten the words wrong sorry

  • 11 Doctors. Only 1 Brigadier.

  • Awesome!!

  • I betcha he's gone off shooting some angels for sport in the sky right now with the first 3 Doctors. :) R.I.P. Nicholas.

  • Rest in peace, and in the knowledge that millions of fans will miss you. I salute you, mr Courtney. The Brig will not be forgotten!

  • Can't quite believe it. Still crying here.

He's sitting on a deckchair in Cromer in the sky now! Smiling down on us. Wonderful chap! x

  • is sad he is gone

  • I'm sure William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee are all welcoming him with open arms.

  • You were a Great Actor Nick You will be greatly missed by Whovians Everywhere. A true Inspiration to everyone :'(

  • Magnificent gent. Will be sorely missed.

  • RIP Nicholas. You will be dearly missed :(

  • One amazing chap :) great tribute

  • Nicholas Courtney was (as he one said) 'a marvelous chap'

  • This is fantastic tribute. Nicholas Courtney RIP.

  • Series 6 must have a reference to Lethbridges Funeral it must or all of Nicolas's work wont seem to have mattered to the BBC.

    R.I.P Brig I will miss you :(

  • @Hauntedman1 No, why? Death of The Doctor mentioned several companions being alive despite their actors deaths. They should have a dedication, sure.

  • @Occono ok

  • @Hauntedman1 That might be tricky territory. In the expanded Universe, its said that his second wife Doris was killed when their boat capsized during a boating outing. The heartbroken Brig survived and was later rejuvenated into a young man, allowing him to live a lot longer than he would've. He later died naturally sometime in the 2050s. The expanded Universe also says that Jo Grant eventually died in a house fire sometime in the future.

  • @Hauntedman1 Audios and novels.

  • he was awesome <3 miss him :(

  • Goodbye, Brigadier.

  • Very tragic, he was a great man. RIP Nick :(

  • RIP Nicholas, I will always remember you as a massive part of my child hood in Doctor Who :( RIP legend

  • Very sad to hear this last night. Legend. RIP.

  • Five rounds rapid for the Brig. Godspeed sir.

  • @merlinstwin Amen, man!

  • @merlinstwin Love that line. I miss him soooo much

  • Goodbye Nick.

    Thanks for everything.

  • we will all miss excellent tribute to the longest serving doctor who allies/companions :(

  • very sad day in doctor who history, RIP Nicholas Counrtey you will be forever remembered

  • RIP Nicholas. Your appearances in Doctor Who were great - all of them.

  • @MarcusBritish indeed wonderful chap - all of them..

  • A true inspiration to the generations who grew up with him. RIP Nicholas Courtney. You shall be sorely missed.

  • A true legend and a wonderful chap.

  • So sad, he was a brilliant guy :(

  • Nicholas Courtneys passing is a dark day in the Whoniverse. A brilliant man who will be sorely missed. Brigadier i salute you.

    Nicholas Courtney R.I.P. 1929-2011

  • RIP Brigadier.....

  • I've never watched any of the old Dwhos. Anyone how I can watch them?

  • @TheSuperRunner DVD or like TheHutchhickersGuide on Youtube.

  • @TheSuperRunner They're released on Region 1 DVD - buy them. Then you can watch them over, see tons of extras and take pride in a huge and respectable collection which beats anything made since the 7th Doctor. :)
