So the Chinese run the torch into a warehouse in San Francisco, and then secretly take it away from the crowds to shoot false footage of a "harmonious" relay, (complete with runners waving to no one) and then just leave thousands and thousands of proud Chinese people, who endured hardship and expense to attend ceremonies, standing like fools waiting for a torch that never arrives?

I won't be watching the Olympics either.

I honestly think that a string of protests will not help. They only attract more attention, and the protests may lead to police/government intervention, and will make the protests more "righteous". But, since the protests do bring in more eyes, more pressure is put on China, and they will tighten security in Tibet, Gansu, and the neighboring ethnic Tibetan provinces. That increased security will cause more home protests, and more deaths, and the thing will come in full circle. Free Tibet!

Tibet will never be free. But China should improve the standard of living, freedom of speech and freedom religion there in Tibet, just like what the US did to the Indians. So many protests will back fire for sure in the long term. It really embarrassed the heck of China. Would China bow down to the pressure? She will never as you can tell from its history.
