I (now recovering from Anorexia) wanted to try this just out of curiosity, I talked my mom's ear off, cut my food into teeny particles, pushed it around and onto another plate and even took a couple real bites. Afterwards, my mom promptly told to to stop fucking around and eat. In conclusion, this little trick is BULLSHIT
we only live once! Why are we soooo obsessed about being thin? Aren't There More Important Things than being skinny???? I eat what I want and I'm not fat, I'm normal! I want to live my life happy and eat things I like...
I don't think it would work. When your already that thin people notice EVERYTHING that you eat.. and they notice even more if you pick at your food heaps or don't even put one bite in your mouth - people are actually really observant. For this to work I think you'd have to eat at least a few bites or else its really obvious that your doing it on purpose.
@Ensanguinedx nope. Believe me. If people know that your anorexic and look sickingly skinny everyone notices what you eat, or rather what you lack eating. It could work if you managed to get in a few mouthfuls and compressed the rest into the corner of your plate but seriously people notice everything when your stick thin
@DarkFacet it's clever because she's drawing attention away from her actually eating. By clinking around on the plate and messing up the food by scrambling it and scooting it to a different plate, she confuses people by talking at the same time. By the time her conversation ends it looks like she's eaten half the plate.
That's how it's clever. I take it you don't know anyone who suffers seriously from anorexia
@DarkFacet we made them eat you stupid fuck. Once we realized what they were doing we got them help and they're fine now. We didn't just let our friends die. It wasn't until after I saw this in the episode did I realize it was something other anorexics use.
@DarkFacet Thing is, unfortunately so, that it's this cleverness that allows people with eating disorders or who self harm, to keep up with the disorder. it's this cleverness that you have to acknowledge, and learn about, and see past, to be able to help your friends. "Superficially ingenious or witty/ intelligence in the sense of being mentally quick or sharp/ (-ly) in a tricky manner" a con artist can be described as clever, and is pretty much what we become when we're trying to stay sick.
All people who say it's so clever of her coming up with this or whatever: it's always been like the number one trick stated on pro ana-sites. Once upon a time I did this as well. What strikes me is how the hell the producers (or the screenwriter I guess) knew about this so that they could use it for Cassie in Skins...
this came up as i searched sid science kid episode one for my little brother and really freaked me out. im sorry but are you reading the comments on this? To teach a lesson in Psychology...very clever...but meanwhile glorifying eating disorders? It sure does mean more when people find out themselves how horrifying and detrimental something like anorexia is (&yes i know because I had to myself)...but what % of people actually realize this before their health, not to mention life, takes its toll?
I could have easily figured that one out, but the way that she put the food up to her face and began talking was pretty great... Aswell as the way she scraped to food...
A girl I was with in treatment did this on meal therapy. She even tried to play me but I could tell the whole time what she was doing. It was sad, I mean, she was in treatment!
It's frightening how much of myself I see in Cassie.. from the bubbly self medicated induced smiles, to the anorexia, to the fact that no one suspects a thing.. it's eerily shocking. I've been watching Skins online for some time now and have yet to finish all the episodes... I hope Cassie gets a happy ending..
The way that she arranges Sid's fries on the plate gives me chills. But of course in real life, if someone did that out of the blue to my plate, I'd be like "What the hell?" but it just one of the scenes that show you how anorexia can also be steeped in OCD thinking.
@Emxx12 I don't see it but to me her personality comes out so much I can't even think of Taylor Swift. But now that you mentioned it, I can feel a sick and twisted Kanye West interruption to this, OMG, lol.
@TheTwitterHater omg, i have the same issue. it makes me uncomfortable eating infront of people im not close too. its like theyll think im greedy or something. well, at least thats what i think. so all i have at lunch is a slice of bread.
is it true that cassie's trick actually work, like people dont know that youre not eating. you see, i have to eat dinner with my family tomorrow night and i dont want to. i usually dont eat after 5pm..
@TheTwitterHater thats great to here. i tried it last night and no one said anything. im not sure if it worked for, maybe they just didnt care but still. its a great trick! :)
we were eating something that you only need a spoon for, so it was a little harder.
@happenstance1234 i used to do that too.. before realizing how utterly stupid i was. so yeah, i have the right to say something like that. "nobody cares" yeah, right. it's just a way to feel sorry for yourself
I'm fully aware of how stupid it is to refuse something that's going to keep you alive. But if you were able to dismiss it so easily, you certainly never had a full-fledged eating disorder. Disordered eating, maybe, but an ED is simply not that easy to get rid of. You're being highly judgmental and offensive.
@happenstance1234 i'm able to dismiss it so easily because i got rid of it. but just how "easy" it actually was, you simply can't and don't know. it took me two years to start eating again, so yeah...
btw i'm sorry if i offended you- i meant to say not eating itself is really stupid, not the person him/herself. just like i think suicide attempts are stupid. maybe i'm so angry against it because it happened to me, so i know how it feels
Not eating is stupid. I definitely agree. That said, even when you know intellectually that it's stupid... that doesn't mean you can just drop it like that.
I was recovered, or thought I was, for the better part of a year before a sudden and violent relapse. A woman I know was recovered for more than TWENTY years before relapsing.
It's scary. Some people are able to free themselves from it. Others? It takes hold more firmly than that.

Sadly, I actually do this or I eat in the bathroom sometimes during school.
But I'm not anorexic, I just get anxiety eating in front of people.
People really don't notice. It's a very good technique.
