  • This engine (B16) sounds so much nicer than any other honda four cylinder in my opinion.. i don't mean louder, i just mean it sounds more quality. and it's due to the rod length/stroke ratio which physically creates a differently shaped, more sinusoidal waveform. also why it doesn't sound like it's going to "blow up" at 9K rpm :)

Which is more than any 4 cylinder engine makes. So dont say small engines are better . because they are not

  • @duramaxjad4 Smaller engines are better.. In a fuel economy/power ratio.. You can have 200 HP in a 2.0 liter engine, or 350 in a 4.8+ liter engine..

    Plus in the end, with all the beatifull gearboxes around, power is wat you need.. Not "extreme torque"..

    All the work you can in the least time..

    By the way, thats the reason why a F-1 car would beat the hell out of a nascar car..

  • @puchomoreno well not really my bros e36 318is is doing about 30mpg and my e30 325is is doing 40mpg, so 190bhp from mine 150 from his. and mine is the better handling car. i also have 220lbft of torque and i have left many a well tuned car sitting on and off track. really it all depends on your driving style, the cars origions, intention, and age (older cars are generally not that economical). AND at the top end a NASCAR will dominate a F1 car. A larger engine has more usable power than.....

    Another fact is; even the 15 year old 1.6L b-series made more than 90 ft-lbs of torque at 8,000. Regardless, I never denied that "there's no replacement for displacement." The fact you like American muscle has no bearing on you being a "real car guy". A guy driving a Honda can make the exact same statement.

  • @sctflasher379 in theory when your car is stock the engine can rev up to 9000rpm but the ecu and tacho limits it to 1000 or 2000 below that to make sure it doesnt blow....then again if your engine is old or has a tiny bit of something wrong with it on the inside and you hold it at 8000rpm one of the pistons/gaskets/rockers might pop...and crack a hole in your rocker cover. thus blow

    Pistons, cams, valve, retainer, spring valve, 170ps-->185ps and such..

    Most important is the block has the same height as b18c (1800cc)

    But B16b has longer rod for making it much better rev to god engine

    This short stroke with long rod engine revs up to 10k easily with a lil' tuning

    This is basic info for Honda guys like me...but correct me if I'm wrong

    But personally it's not fun for daily driven...it lacks torque in lower rpms

  • these are durable engine.  I have a friend, his lasted 200,000 hell beatin km and then he turbo'd it. Only lasted 2,000km after that. Yes it was bad mechanical workmanship but basicly we told him to not turbo a high compression engine.

    Intake Stroke - Piston moves down, sucking the air and fuel mixture through the intake valves and into the cylinder.

    Compression Stroke - Piston moves up, compressing the air and fuel mixture, which is ignited just before TDC (top dead center).

    Power Stroke - Piston moves down from the combustion, generating power, ultimately to the wheels.

    Exhaust Stroke - Piston moves up, pushing the exhaust gas through the exhaust valves and ultimately into the atmosphere.

  • It's velocity you want, not backpressure. The 2.5" piping might have been too big for my stock B16A.

  • u need backpressure as well with an N\A motor or else u will loose compression but i dont think 2.5" is too big, run a performance muffler on it and it should be fine, 3 or 3.5" is too big tho for sure

    It's all about velocity, not backpressure. Now listen carefully. Smaller diameter exhaust has better velocity at lower RPM, bigger diameter exhaust has more velocity at higher RPM. That's why you lose low end power when you put on a massive exhaust, because there's little exhaust velocity at low RPM.

  • i do agree with u about velocity, but if your exhaust is too big and lacking backpressure it will allow unburnt fuel/air to go throught the cylinder into the exhaust which is very unefficient.

  • Unburnt fuel can't move out of the cylinder until the exhaust stroke starts, which is after the power stroke, when the pistons moves back up to force exhaust gas out. So when the fuel is being burnt, the piston is moving down and the exhaust valves are closed, therefore making it impossible for exhaust velocity to interfere with the remaining unburnt fuel.

    No internal combustion engine is 100% efficient, there will always be unburnt fuel. Direct injection, and dual spark plugs, help with this.

  • Unburnt fuel? There is almost zero unburnt fuel in modern fuel injected engines.

    What lliamcoombs is talking about regarding exhaust size is totally true though. There is a such a thing as too large of an exhaust. The size of the exhaust needs to be large enough not to be too restrictive, but small enough that exhaust velocity is sufficient to scavenge the exhaust gasses from the cylinder.

    Direct injection mostly helps because compression ratio can be raised and timing can be more aggressive.

DC2 is a good car, and i'd rather take it if i ever did circuit racing. It's light, handles well, stiff, and will fit any K series engine. That'll be the ultimate FF time attack car..

  • Well it depons on a lot of things.FF cars can handle really god if they are light,have good horsepower to getl a little skiddish feeling,and if it gets driven with good pedal control,brake and gas at the same time to eliminate alot of understeer and heel and toe to keep max power to the wheels also eliminating understeer.
