  • Anyway, I see you did use a diode bridge to make a DC current, and I know that the batteries themselves will regulate voltage going out, but wouldn’t you have to put in a voltage regulator in-between the turbine and the batteries so you don’t fry your system?

    THE ANSWER TO THAT IS NO. YOU WANT THE VOLTAGE TO TRY TO RISE UP SO YOU CAN GET THE AMPS OUT OF IT INTO THE BATTERY. AS THE VOLTAGE TRIES TO RISE, THE EXCESS VOLTAGE TURNS TO AMPS. THESE LITTLE GENERATORS ARE 100 WATTS. 100 WATTS CANT DAMAGE THE BATTERY AT ALL. THE BIGGER WIND TURBINES DONT USE REGULATORS EITHER. JUST CHARGE CONTROLLERS TO DIVERT THE POWER TO A DUMP LOAD WHEN THE BATTERIES ARE FULL.

  • Hi. Cool turbine I like it. I tried to make one for my 6th grade science fair project, but my dad got mad that I was making a mess in the garage and threw it away. He was drunk and doesn’t remember. Oh well. I never did try to make one again. I am glad to see that it does work. I forgot about it until I saw your vids.

  • Hi muddy, heard this from a friend. If you make a bus bar (two flattend copper tubes screwed into wood) and put that between wind genies cables and your charge controller, batter bank. What you can then do is also put a high power capacitor coming off from the bus bar as a separate wiring - this then apparently smooths out the signal. Thoughts welcome.

  • @DiyEcoProjects YUP! ADDING A CAPACITOR HELPS SMOOTH THE DC RIPPLE OUT.

    THIS HELPS KEEP THE GENERATOR NOISE OUT OF ITEMS USING FROM THE BATTERIES.

  • @AZSunnyJim THE CAR ALTERNATOR WILL COST A LOT IN MAGNETS AND NEEDS HIGHER RPMs. THE CEILING FAN HAS A WIDE VARIETY OF VOLTAGES THAT IT CAN OPERATE AT FOR CHARGING VARIOUS BATTERY BANKS, BUT IT IS 100 WATTS ON MOST OF THEM. THE OLD CAR GENERATORS ARE PRETTY GOOD AS IS AND NO ADDED COST TO OPPERATE. THEY JUST NEED TO BE GEARED UP A BIT FOR HIGHER RPMs.

    IF YOU WANT GOOD POWER OUT WITH GREAT EFFICIENCY... TRY THE AXIAL FLUX ALTERNATOR BUILDS.

  • Hi there Mr muddy :). please excuse my lack of electrical knowledge but this is something i am trying to get to grips with.may i add something regarding the copper coils ? have you heard of a gentle man by the name of Marko rodin?(rodin coil).I would like to incorporate his coil within the wind turbine tech.But I am tooo much of a novice and have problems with the terminology every one uses :( your help would be greatly appreciated.Also please note i do not want to take this and make money.

  • @hpsoap THE RODIN COILS SETUP IN AN AXIAL FLUX PMA WOULD BE BEST FOR THIS INCORPORATION OF RODIN COILS TO WIND TECH. GOOD IDEA. I AM STARTING ON ONE TONIGHT, WITH REGULAR AIR CORE COILS. THE RODIN COILS ARE AIR CORE AS WELL. THAT MAKES THEM THE IDEAL PLACE TO START IN THIS SCIENTIFIC ADVENTURE. SO MAYBE I WILL DO 2 PMAs. THE FIRSY INE WILL HAVE TO BE FINISHED FIRST.

  • From one Mud to another - Great Job. Watching this video - I just realized I have the polarity of every other magnet wrong ...lol. Currently they are +/-/+/- and they should be +/+/-/-/ on my setup. What I will likely do is transfer the one winding set over to that housing and keep my magnets the same. oh and by the way - thanks for the credit of the photo. top knotch!.

  • After some thought - the extra square magnets were bad. We want a conductor ring outside to bend the field back into the adjacent magnet as explained in your vid. The sq ones i had closed the air gap, but also connected to each other and closed the loop, effectively steering the field away from the stator back into the magnets. i will remove those and add a spacer to close air gap or leave as is.

  • @helpmonkey THERE YOU ARE, FRONT ROW IS THE PLACE TO BE. HOPE I MADE YOU LAUGH A LITTLE. 2 PHASE IS THE NEXT BEST THING TO 3 PHASE. AND IT IS 90% AS GOOD AS 3 PHASE COMPARED TO SINGLE PHASE BECAUSE IT IS ALWAYS CHARGING.

    5 PHASE IS ONLY ABOUT 3% BETTER THAN 3.

    LOTS OF FUN. THE HARD PART OF THE CLASS IS NOW OVER. NOW WE CAN DO THE HANDS ON AND UNDERSTAND ALL OF IT. I WISHED I DID THIS ON THE OTHER SERIES.

    this has been a huge help to me, something i could never really get my head around. i have two fan motors from a large aircon, and now i can understand a bit more what i am supposed to do with them. ive been wanting to add them to my vawt.
