bronx is were hip hop exploded from, but how do we really know thats were it was born??????? their could've been cats in LA or GA rhyming or rockin parties too
@juswolf22 maybe i could help here i was in the marine corps back in the late 70s i travel to cali and to some states in the mid west. and to answer that i never heard or saw hip hop in these places, when cool hurc faded back in the late 70s hip hop had no set name yet. at least to my knowledge. i have not heard no cats yet! outside NYC claiming hip hop status back in the early 70s.
@juswolf22 there's more to the Hip hop subculture than just rhyming. The Bronx is the place where MCs first started rhyming over breakbeats, which were cut up back and forth, by DJs like Herc and Flash. The Bronx is where the first B-boys started spinning on their backs. The Bronx is where Graff writers first started ptting their art on the side of trains (okay, well that might've actually been Manhattan, but still, you get the idea).
What your talking about is called corporate media. That is not the Hip Hop Culture you see on MTV, Much Music, whatever. You MIGHT see .2% of actual Hip Hop culture on there, but its for a split second in a sprite commercial with a guy doing airflares.
misinform! please research b 4 u speak, late 70s early 80s i saw some raising stars, and drugs and money was not mention, for that mater if i could remember correctly it was in one of his rap that rob base said he use no drugs, and nobody refer to woman as female dogs, so please that was a very ignorant comment.
kool herc is jamaican he got the idea of 2 turntables and a mic from jamaica thats how real hip hop started...jamaicans created hip hop
