Such a mellow light touch, a delightful airy piece, takes me to the islands at twilight , good company and beauty surrounding us.Thank you for posting this here on YouTube for us all to travel together in Metheny's sounds. Thank You
The problem with so called jazz purists is that they think jazz is all about bad feelings. Jazz encompasses all of the emotional spectrum..and Pat was one of its modern pioneers...Is Earth Wind and Fire bad because they make you feel good to be alive? I think not.
Thursday is 5 years since my Dad passed and Pat was his favorite artist. He always said he wanted to be buried with this album...and I actually put in it his casket. This song will always be meaningful to me. If you actually read these Pat, thank you.
@hcmofo13 It is indeed one of my favorites from Pat.M and I understand why you dad was so fond of it, that was a great gesture on your part to do that for him and I'm sure he thanks you for it, peace.
Since when did the "purist" decide the rules of the game ? Do purists also dictate which colors of the rainbow are the most prominent, and therefore the only colors worth displaying in the sky or on an artist's palette? The opinions of the purists are merely their opinions, and we all know what opinions are like: opinions are like purists.
first time i ever heard this track was back in the mid to late 90's, at the time i didn't get who did this cause i would always catch it half way through. but something as as beatiful as this could only come from pat metheny who i dubbed the man from another universe! PURE GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both versions are totally AWESOME!!! I grew up a fan of EWF! I got turned on to Pat in the late '80s. So I was quite happily surprised when I happenned upon this collaboration:)))!
@ANSON29 I'm right there with you! And oh what a coincidence! I love PMG's music as much as old school Cadillacs! Since I cannot at the moment afford the real thing, I collect diecast models. Within the past month or so I've seemed to beef up my collection of the "ANSON CLASSICS" line of 1953 Eldorados! Peeese!
If you ever find out who it is, I'd love to know just because of my curious nature. Too bad my old pal Knuckles passed away not so long ago, he knew just about everything regarding Jazz.. It was he who turned me onto Smooth Jazz all those years ago. May he R.I.P.
I would guess the best thing to do would be to get it uploaded, that would probably help, I would without question share this one its fantastic, to your mate Knuckles R.I.P
I figured that being you're a jazz affictionado. Reminds me of a quote from the original Star Trek series that Spock (Leonard Nimoy) once said, which has stuck with me all these years: "Having is not as pleasing as wanting; it is not logical but often true."
it's really an incredible track and the cassette still plays well although I better find a way to move it soon but you know should I never find out who it won't break my heart , that's a good sentiment there from old pointy ears, I like that!
Am curious now. Is it, an instrumental and/or vocals as well? What genre? Too bad we don't have a website (for free ha ha) that can name any tune. Still Cool, I think your best bet is to take that cassette with you and keep asking. Btw, I made copies of my tunes in the event I ruined the tape. Now you're going to have that song on your mind all day.....
I would put money on what I assume the title to be "Nadine" the vocals are pretty straight foeward it's Jazzfunk simply based on the way it's composed, sounds like Stanley Clark bass wise very cool and yes it's spinning in my head as we speak.
One of my favorites is Are You Going My Way. When I first heard it on the radio, I was on the road & taped it on a little portable I happened to have. Years went by before I learned the title of the song. Amazing right? As it turned out, 1 day I stopped by a little record shop, gave my cassette to the manager. A kid on a ladder putting up posters in the store said, 'that's Pat Methany' I have in it my truck. He came back & gave it to me. That's my story about Are You Going My Way.
That's very cool indeed!, funny thing is I also have a song I recorded on to cassette more than 20 years ago, I play it all the time and have searched high and low concerning who the artist might be, still no luck.
Me too, have 2 instrumentals I taped in the 90s; still unknown to me. One is an Asian sound and the other kind of Celtic. Both taped from a late night radio station, Hearts of Space or Echoes, can't remember which.
P.S. My advice is to do what I did. When you go by a record shop ask the clerk to have a listen. If not the clerk, chances are somebody listening nearby might know. But you'll never know if you don't try. It's funny how the music you can't get are the ones that haunt you. Good Luck!
You know I have not gone the record shop route but just a couple months ago I contacted the very station I recorded it off of, WHUR Howard Univ, the best I could do was to recite the hook and what I thought might be the title,
I even gave details concerning the the way it was composed and it's strong points musically......they were clueless and I was shocked, even given the fact that these were not the same jocks from back in the 80's I figured I was onto something.
A few years ago it took me quite a while to learn how to play this song ... when I eventually made it, I kept playing it twice a day, for months ... This track is a source of inspiration.
Grande grande musica! Una delle mie favorite di questo artista...

i know some pm fans dont dig 'we live here' that's okay
ill go mos w/o listening ot it then i need to hear it and it stays in the disc drive for a week straight
what i dig so much is it starts off cool slows down a bit then the last 3 tracks just relaunch you
and of course 'til the end of the world'
whatever words one cansay of it can never be enough
and echo blamires&ledford's contrib - immense

Patty Jackson of WDAS (Philadelphia) plays this between songs. I doubt she's aware of Philip Bailey's version with Pat Metheny.
