This is so great to see. I am actually in this at the 24:29 mark. My friends and I drove from Kentucky to Tennessee to see them at Ella Guru's. Fantastic night, band and video. Hats is one of those "...stranded on an island with only 3 records forever..." records. The other 2 would be hard to pick but not this one.
thanks for posting....was lucky enought to record it on the tv over 20 years ago!!! scary....replayed it to death and had to consign to the bin in the end as video tapes were never designed to cope with such use!!.....takes me back to a place 20 years ago............skool daze, italia 90 and first boys holiday!!!.....
Thanks for uploading, haven't seen this particular doc before. I saw Blue Nile twice in the 1990s live in London and Brussels, live shows like no other, grown men weeping. Stunning.
I've recently read the Nileism book. It had an interesting tale to tell but it was saddled with an attention-seeking author who kept getting in the way. But he did write that this documentary was widely available on the internet; that'll be YouTube, then.
A good watch, but already dated in a way that The Blue Nile themselves never will be. Thanks for uploading it, jackhavana.
i'm glad it sounds good......i did their live sound on this tour and these are live board tapes from my mixes. quite exciting memories of an amazing time.
i envy you above anybody on earth... im 23 years old, introduced to the blue nile by my bro 20 years older, the music is timeless... but so underappreciated... it hits you like no other music....
Thanks for putting this up. I am just finishing the Allan Brown biog (which isn't very good) and came looking for this. Interested to know where you got it? Just one of those things you kept? You're right, a decent release would be good. Thanks again. Izod
I love them, they are a band that I feel is totally mine, expresses my joy, my intense sadness, it speaks of my lost relationships, uses metaphors and sometimes just says it ultra plain, it's all good and beautiful as it's original and not glossed over. I'd like to bring them to Toronto Canada for a show. It seems like they almost fight against having any press?! Why is that?
@6666664r They actually did plenty of press , and TV shows , over the years . With album releases being few and far between it just seemed like there was none ! They'd pop up , do their thing , then disappear.
As of right now , the band effectively no longer exists and no new releases are planned. Buy the back catalogue and enjoy it..................................
Don't the BBC/Virgin realise that they have a piece of our...everyone's cultural history in their archives? Observe the wasteland that contemporary TV has become and explain to me why this great short film hasn't had a DVD release or a least a rerun. Thanks for posting this J,.
Thank you so much for posting. Like others here, read Nileism recently and am back head over heels with this wonderful band...great to finally see this footage.
So glad you posted this. I finished reading Nileism: The Strange Course Of The Blue Nile about a month ago and this doco stood out to me as a missing piece in my appreciation of this great band. How lucky we are to live in an age where great music doesn't have to be lost with the demise of too many music labels and limited physical distribution. Hope this gets the loving attention it deserves for restoration and inclusion in a future Blue Nile release. We can only continue to hope. And love.
where did you find it !? this far better quality than the versions previously found on the web. a DVD would be welcome and a 2011 album would be fab, with a new documentary in HD of The Blue Nile: between the albums Come on BBC why do we pay a license fee ???
Great stuff mate..seen clips from this before but not the full program..can never be enough blue nile..wish they would release some new stuff..thanks for posting.
whistlinkitty - glad you enjoyed it, sorry about the poor quality. But I'm hoping a decent response here - and the fact the quality isn't perfect - will maybe, just maybe, prompt the band/BBC/Virgin records to think about releasing it on DVD(it's currently unavailable).
Thanks so much for posting this - I've loved The Blue Nile for years but never had a chance to see them live. I've just read one of the two biographies of the band which have just come out and it transcribes some of the interviews seen here.
I know footage is very rare - does anyone know if it's possible to buy this documentary or anything else featuring them? There's quite a bit of stuff posted on here, which is always welcome, but I'd love to have a quality copy. Thanks again.
