I am going to try to make an add-on for Celestia that can be used with version 1.6. I just need to disentangle this added texture from the rest of the add-on stuff I have for the moon.
For this movie, I used a texture applied to a sphere. This is a normal map, which tells the renderer about local slopes for each pixel, so it can display the correct shading. This is not a shape model, so while the topographic shading should be accurate, the limb of the moon would still appear smooth.
Awesome. Are there any instructions on how to get the JAXA data and then feed it to Celestia? Is this just a texture applied to a sphere, or is it also altimetrically correct? Thanks for sharing. Paolo, Lugano, Switzerland.
Celestia FTW.

Nice! And good to see the Kaguya altimetry data finally here. Our first really good lunar altimetry map. Can't wait for LRO data to join in the fun.
