I've never seen cribbage played like that. Typically the players count out their points out loud and then mark them on the board. That scene looked more like poker.
@NJEsperantist First off, that moment is taken out of context. Second, as a guy who's played A LOT of cribbage, when you have two really good players it's not always necessary to count all points out loud. Especially at a moment like that where one player clearly has a large enough hand to peg out. Plus, it's a bit of showboating to force the other player to count your cards themselves to verify your epic win. The one character is basically rubbing the win in the other player's face.
@mihmiverse Hmm. I only ever played cribbage with my Dad, so I have no other experience to compare it to. I always thought the reason the scores were counted aloud was to speed the game along, otherwise the other player has to count the points of their opponent to be sure they aren't really cheating. The only time I ever just put my cards down and pegged it was if I had a very low score, like a pair or 2 points for making 15. Even then, we always said 'pair for 2' or 15 for two. Just sayin'
