  • Check out my videos using my own tracker, it uses the YM2612 and the SEGA Genesis itself. And the track is very very accurate. >Regards.

  • actualy with reason i have not pain to emulate some FM sound of classical videogame sound, even Snes or Nes sound is easy to do with very low sampling. but the synth inside like maelstorm or subtractor can do a fine job, also scream distortion is awesome if you want to do lofi character to sample.

  • the real song starts at 2:45 dont waste your time and wait for it to start

  • @liammillay2 Yes, was in video description

  • Great stuff! I think its worth mentioning that the yamaha chips weren't actually FM, they were PWM which creates a sound similar to FM.

  • @Romxero Yamaha YM2612 is trully FM. Sega genesis used 3 different chips, one for pwm, one for samples like "segaaaa" and other for FM sounds. Try to download Gens emulator, open a game like Sonic and disable some of the soundchips by the emulator's menu bar. You can hear differents synths in 1 console.

  • @thiagotecnico Sorry I was incorrect. I believe its Phase Modulation. Not Pulse Width Modulation. I know software synths now are FM because computers became so powerful, but I think that those chips where PM, the DX7 was actually PM as well. But I could be wrong, I had to refine my thinking off of wikipedia lol.

  • @thiagotecnico

How did you made that cool Bass line? :P

  • @thiagotecnico

you can also do the same with a modified model 2 Mega Drive :)

  • @Romxero @thiagotecnico I believe the YM2612 actually uses Phase Modulation (as well as containing an 8-bit DAC)? But correct me if I'm wrong. Other than that you have the TI SN76489 incorporated for Master System back compatibilty but often used in conjunction with the YM chip for more diversity/awesomeness, although I don't think that's classed as PWM since it only generates square waves (although with some clever ROM programming could simulate PWM).

    Anyway, nice remake :D

  • Thor has better FM oscillators, which are a LOT closer to the yamaha ones in the genesis.

  • @Biopharmer thats true

  • What was the first song? Sounds familiar but can't put my finger on it

  • :o whaa

  • Pretty good, will save to favorites

  • thanks for these comments. its not perfect the way I wish, but its 70%; i need better drums and the main melody lead-piano.

  • @thiagotecnico whaaaaa?!?! this is great !!

please post the .rns !! ^_^//

  • good job on the track.

  • Ear candy! I love it!

  • Sounds just like a real band playing!

Bravo my friend, you should be very proud of yourself.

  • @Adam060756 " a real band" ?! That made me laugh. But yeah, good job, if you like this kind of sounds.

  • terrific work, this sounds great

  • sounds more like the SA2 remix

  • YES! that's the point. but they use square lead as the 'piano' sound that i didnt agree

  • oh yeah i can see that.

btw, i like both your version and the sa2 remix.

  • Good job!

  • i love this type of stuff. great sound designing kid!!!

  • i love sound designing even knowing almost nothing about synth

  • wow hands down one of if not the best renditions of this song excellent work

  • thanks man. it isn't perfect i know, btw i'm improving it

  • Really nice!!

  • Very Nice.. 6/5 effort

  • Aê cara esse som aí é do Sonic do mega Drive né ? ? ?

    LEGAL ! ! !

    Ficou SHow ! ! !

  • valeu!

  • In my opinion, I believe it sounds better than the original. There was always something wrong with the way Yamaha did fm synth that I didn't like.

  • at 3:34 the chord is wrong, you have the bass note right, but the chord played there is a major IV on a V bass note, apart from that, it sounds very nice ^.^ x

  • I've downloaded the MIDI and tried to reach FM voices. DOWNLOADED midi file. I didn't write any note. It's not composition. It's 'sound design' or 'lead shaping' understand?

  • your sound design is very good my friend...this probably means that the person who wrote the MIDI file got that chord wrong, it's not a biggy.x

  • yeah man this is quality, i didnt think it was possible to get these sorta sounds outta the subtractor! i use reason for mainly beats and song structure, i dont like the synths they offer, and the overall out output is quite shit, but im trying my best to get a phat sound out of it, as its easy to use. i find myself using alot of wave samples and sequencing them, or using my external synths, recording some parts on them and sampling them back into reason!

but this is very very good

  • you should take more time studying these synths. they are shit at its presets. but if you build some leads with subtractor or Thor you don't need sampling. please don't use malstrom because it's the worst limited synth ever. thanks for watching

  • i wouldnt mind learning them properly, but im not massive into the programming side of synthesis. i do have two external synths and i find it difficult to program my own synths. u shud make a video on the basics of each synth in reason (excluding the malstrom because its shite yes i agree!)

  • why are you into synthesis at all if you don't like programming? That's fundamentals 101 for electronic synthesis...

  • not exactly mate, some people can be well into programming and not into song structure and arrangement, whereas im more into tweaking sounds rather than starting from scratch as its just a bit difficult for me

  • Sounds great!

If you Really really want to get as close as possible to the FM sounds of the Genesis, then Native Instruments FM7 or FM8 would be the best software i know. Even some of the presets are the exac same as the synths used in some old megadrive/genesis games.

Its a shame Reason deosnt support Vsts though!

  • Its a shame Reason doesnt support Vsts though! [2]

fm synthesis is extremely difficult for me. even if it could run vst. :(

those sound engineers were highly paid for algorithm studying :P

  • Yeah, FM is very complicated alright! :(

FM8 makes it a lot easier though, you should check it out. Its a lot easier to use than FM7, they really improved the user friendlyness of it. Get yourself some DX100 presets for it and you may even find some megadrive sounds in there! :D

  • you know what?

if the YM2612 synthesisor on the megadrive was just that little bit better, it'll probably sound like this, Great work!!

Not that I'm saying the YM2612 is shit, NO WAY!!

  • Great work man!

  • this is very accurate. I can tell the differenece but to the casual listenenr it would be VERY difficult to tell apart. Superb work there. I just wish you would try to make your own stuff instead of emulating what has already been done, because your talent for audio deserves more than raw replication.

  • OMG I owe you some very 'thanks'

  • wooow shit it sounds nice

  • perfect for sim city, or the sims when your gonna buy something,, excelent for a video game!!!!! great song dude!! great talent!

  • once again you come up with a superb work. Well done and keep them coming.

  • Thanks!! \o/

  • congratulations!
