Thank you for the comments everyone! I really appreciate it. I have been swamped with work and just noticed a bunch of comments. Forgive me! :)
Gembenjamin (Ben) -- Regarding monitor hookup, I'm not at that particular computer now, but I'm almost 100% positive I used the cable supplied with the monitor. I plugged it into the DVI out port on my MacBook Pro. If you have any questions, please feel free to shoot me a message.
stonepete9 -- Pertaining to quality, watching movies/shows on this monitor is excellent. DVD's look very good and I often find myself steaming videos from Netflix. I'm sure some of the brand new LED/LCD TV's may be better, but most are $1,500+
SebATRandom -- To run the MacBook Pro with an external monitor and lid closed, simply put the machine to sleep and close the lid. Tap your space bar a few times and the computer will startup using the external monitor. Keep in mind you must have an external mouse and keyboard to use this function.
I just got this monitor, thanks to this and some other videos.
I wanted to ask you how you have your system setup.
I have a macbook pro 2.53 ghz. I bought the mini displayport to DVI adapter and a dvi to hdmi cable. Is this the proper hardware? If so, could you please tell me what resolution, color setting etc. to choose. When I watch your vid in HD the image on the monitor looks really sharp and crisp. I would like mine to be the same.
Really? That's odd. Have you noticed that smaller monitors [inch-wise] have a lower amount of pixels and resolution?
On a side note, laptops, given their energy saving features, actually use 90% less energy when compared to desktops. A laptop with an external Energy Star monitor is about as green as you can get.
Try working on a 21"+ monitor, or working in the design/animation industry, and you will see the need for a larger monitor.
Actually, running the laptop closed with an energy star monitor is the same. Also, working on a 15-17" monitor [laptop] is nothing close to working on a 24"+ screen, and productivity is severely hindered.
NO! ur just funny fatty bum bum haha..that's all :D

Do not run your Macbook with the closed lid. Follow this step
1 put you Mac to sleep through the software
2 close your lid
3 then press any key on your keyboard
4 when the OS awakens open your lid
This will help your Mac run cooler.

Thanks for the comment! That's actually exactly what I do :)
I also have a Belkin laptop stand with a fan that I typically use under the laptop.
