I remember writing to Polydor records after my cassettes got damaged asking why the 1st two JBA albums were already out of print. They told me to write to his Management, which was "Love Affair". They told me that JB broke his contract agreement to go to columbia for his 3rd album, and that they owned the rights to all of his music and would never let them be re-released as originally recorded, that's why only some of the songs are available on greatest hits. So I got the LP's on ebay!
my very first concert was the j geils band on february 24, 1982 at the old boston garden and john butcher axis opened up..i thought his band was better than geils!.....and i found out if i had gone the night before to see geils (they played three nights) i would of witnessed U2 opening up.....that pissed me off.
We, Vertex Entertainment, are making a mini-doc at the moment on Charlie Farren and Jon Butcher. Trailer to Farren - Butcher on our channel and (or) in the video responses. Please make a visit to our website also @ vertexentertainment . com
i saw dokken, jon butcher axis and def leppard in that order in chattanooga back in the 80s. i dont remember much but i remember that he was better than both the others but from this video and the nusic i have seen on utube i dont see how i must have really been wasted
An incredibly tight and wicked underrated band. Not my favorite song from JBA, but one that somehow captures that time in Boston, where rock radio kicked ass from '75-'85.
Stare at the Sun was a phenomenal album. I listened to it until the grooves wore off. Never quite got why it wasn't just huge. Great songs all around...
Yeah, these guys rocked, but once they got popular locally and some hair and makeup types got a hold of them they looked pretty gay. Saw them so many times live at The Channel and they kicked ass! Derek Blevins drummed live like he had three arms.
I met John when he played a little music house in Natick, Ma. one of the most humble musicians i have ever met, He is a great live performer, and reaches his audience with soul and grace, and can rock with the best of them.
FINALLY got the lp Stare at the Sun and am getting it transferred to cd!! I have waited years to hear this band again and will forever be a uber fan!! They are a very talented band!! And to thisislandearth - I am SOOO Jealousss!!!! lol
I actually had the privledge on meeting Jon Butcher back when I saw him perform @ The Hampton Casino on Hampton Beach, NH. I think it was 1986 or 87. I remember all of Jon's video's running all the time on VH66 Boston all the time. He did an interview for that station & auctioned off one of his guitars. He talked making this video, because it was filmed in the dead of winter, 20 degree weather, on a bridge, in Boston after midnight. I'll always remember that when I hear this song.
Been waiting for YEARS to see this long-lost video on Youtube! The image of the chick diving off the wing of the plane while Jon Butcher glances over from his seat inside the plane always stuck with me, but I'd forgotten the rest of the video. Thanks for putting up the video!
I remember seeing this video on Friday Night Videos on NBC, damn good track, I have the album, it's a F----ng great album!I was thinking back then that maybe he was trying become the next Hendrix, he was very talented on the Axe! Where ever he is today, I give him lots of credit!
Hey TheMegaJmart...I was looking up the stuff on JBA and the members a few years back and saw something that said Chris Martin became a doctor. Is that true? Saw JBA many times and they me to pick up drums and my buddy to do the guitar thing. I never kept at the drums but I guess my old friend is still at it in bands.
@TheMegaJmart Hi I was wondering if your dad remembers where the video was shot,it was rumored that it was either done in either Fall River or New Bedford Mass area,I live just over the state line in Rhode Island and was always currious about that, many thanks
@barjan1 This song got very little airplay and is mostly forgotten, the video is one of the best I've seen produced from that era. Video directors were still experimenting (MTV was 3 years old ) themes like a street party were still pretty fresh. And while the girls looked totally hot in this they don't look like street sluts (granted it's kinda hard to wear skimpy clothes in cold weather).
this is such a great song!!!

It could very well be Denis Leary. There was an open call for extras at Emerson College for this video and Leary was teaching there at that time.

I think my brother had this album. I copied a few tracks onto cassette and still have it somewhere.
We saw them open for Rush in the old Charlotte Coliseum back in '83. Kinda had a Jimi vibe to him.

Oh my god, I saw these guys at The Channel, and that is Denis Leary at the beginning. I can't believe this was from 1984. I feel like Rip Van Winkle.
