man all you guys are idiots, no one needs to learn anyones language. people can speak whatever language they choose to, they're here to fight not give speeches.. just cuz a majority of the people speak spanish, japanese and english doesnt mean you have to learn it. everyone has there own life, who cares if they dont give a fuck about learning a language? knowing english doesn't give anyone special powers to get more wins unless they're being judged by racism.
@danilo87br Read my above post, your comment is dumb.
English is spoken everywhere. Anderson fights in the US. Most of the UFC events and biggest PPV draws are from the US, which means the citizens that pay the most to watch Anderson fight are americans.
Anderson draws less PPV's than GSP or Penn, even though he's hyped as the second coming of Jesus.
Conclusion: Anderson should learn english to be able to communicate with his fans and so make more money due to a bigger fanbase. Very simple.
@alonet02 Not too much they don't. Look at the PPV numbers, the ones who speak english are above Anderson, despite that many believe he's better(GSP, Penn, Lesnar, Rampage, Chuck). No one cares about a guy who doesn't fight in the cage but clowns around and doesn't take time to communicate with the fans who pay his bills.
@rampagesgrill84 the PPV numbers are above when Penn, Lesnar Rampage and chuck fight because they are american.... UFC is american, and the most part of the audience is american.... the question is nationality, not the english...
@alonet02 Then why the fuck do brazilians who have had less fights in the UFC, have lost, and are lower in p4p draw bigger numbers? Machida and Shogun for example. Rashad vs Machida was a huge gate and Lyoto was the bookie favourite! Both try to learn english, but Anderson doesn't give a fuck, and fights every second fight, rest is doing the fucking flamengo. Here's news for ya: People in the civilized world speak English, Portugese is not a universally spoken language - it's not needed by most.
@rampagesgrill84 He doesn't need English, you say he NEEDS IT, but he doesn't, you just say that because you WANT HIM to speak English, but he doesn't, MMA is huge in Brazil, he has a house, money, women, everything he want's there. He doesn't need to accomodate some racist pissed of white guy, the UFC brings him to the United States, Silva prefers fighting in Brazil.
it's a fair comment... however learning Portuguese is quite a bit harder than learning English due to the lack of media available... -- i mean ppl all over the world, brazil india etc watch stuff in eng! but the reverse is not true for portuguese
so I would really appreciate it if you could summarize anything for us, my friend. Muito Obrigado
oh and this doesn't excuse the gringos who so arrogantly insult ppl who can't speak english -- you're right, they should try learning another language!
To understand what Silva is saying? Think for a moment at the content of your reply and the stupidity of it...
Besides, I live in a small town in Finland, so there are no english schools in here, just mandatory classes, no portugese schools within a 500km radius. So it's actually not an option to everyone, and we're talking about a Tatame interview here...Hell, Anderson should take english classes so that folks could understand what he's saying, like Lyoto does...
Hey Finland guy.....portuguese language is one of the elements of our culture, so we preserve it from outlanders like you. If you wanna learn something about Disneyland you learn english. So, if you wanna learn anything about brazilian culture (including our Jiu-Jitsu), you have to learn portuguese. On internet u can find good dictionaries and online courses. Good luck
@2r1c And our finnish language is part of our culture just as much if not more. It was earned after drawing back the russian army when they had 10 times the men we had...wasn't enough. Every 18-year-old HAS to go to the army here because of the threat.
So this has jack shit to do about culture. If a foreigner asks me what f.e. Helenius or Asikainen say in a interview, I don't tell them to: "Go learn finnish, moron!", that's fucking dumb.
