There is another version of Gnossienne 1, played with strings and drums. I have searched a lot, but I just couldn't find it. I have heard it in a video, if you write Les Absintheurs or The Absinthe Drinkers into the browser you can listen to it. If someone knows where I can find that version in full, please tell me!
I am actually proud (I know this is foolish) that Erik Satie was French...we have our national Chopin. The Gnossiennes 1 and 5 are my favourite of course but the Gymnopedies are really good also.
The only thing why I don't like the video is because it takes focus from melody... I enjoy just listening and the melody takes me to unknown places...
@philipchek absolutely agree with philipchek. should be all about misery. i see satie locked up in his paris apartment, staring at a photo of the girl who left him and drinking absinthe. And think this ciccolini interpretation must be wrong. Feels jerky in a way that doesn't fit the impressionists. Others play with more smoothness.
i like your animation very much, as it is very mysterious and a bit scarying in the beginning, but in my opinion, the moment they danse spoils everything. As the fact of being bare-breasted (maybe this term isn't correct, i'm french :) ) was a bit provocative and inner more mysterious in this silentful atmosphere (who are they waiting for? why this butterfly? etc..) they juste become half naked sentimental crazy women, dansing in a sort of reunion celebretating women, gaïa or peace... too bad!
I had this on top of my favourites list, but then it disappeared without explanation. So so pleased to see it back. Out of this world animation. Thank you so very very much.
My favourite version of this piece is at a very slow pace where the grace notes actually sound like full notes. This one is too fast for my liking but still brilliant.
nostalgic

Is nachtvlinders een film, of zo? Het is een mooi woord, op zich: "nachtvlinders".

Thank you for the comment :) No, I only edited images according to the tune. The original animation ''Nachtvlinders'' was created by Raoul Servais.
I recommend it :)

I think the video and music interpretation are very far from Satie music spirit.
