@helpingperson777 its about $6,558, but in first year you have to get the meal plan, which is an additional $1850, you would be better off living off campus, theres lots of apartments around algonquin, lots of apartment buildings
Hey guys, right now I'm Grade 11 and I'm thinking bout going to college instead of military for my future job and if I do go to college I wanna go to Algonquin college in Ottawa and I was wondering if someone could tell me what college life is like, what the pros and cons are, and what it's like living in a dorm, thank u :)
@sparhawk16 wait never mind haha aww you would of been in my class if you were younger. or older. and you like the devil wears prada. we could of been great friends.
I am considering Bachelor Program of Hospitality and Tourism Managment at Algonquin (co-op). Any comments of School of Hospitality would be appreciated. Thank you so much!
@panamanubian hahahah was not expecting that. Ottawa is pretty fun. It's a fairly big city but with a small town feel. I'm not going to tell you it's more fun or that there are more things to do than in a big place like Toronto, but it has its fair share of things to do. Kind of vague, but there you have it :P
@kms539 Wow, Police Foundations - one of top 10 programs of Algonquin, huh? Can I have your email address? I need your help with some quetions about the college and housing. Thanks in advance!
Wow, I REALLY hope me and my friend get this size room.. I know some on the different floors are pretty small... I'm second year technically (thought first in my program) so I hope I get in :( :( :(
@exxxys Good luck! Having rooms that size is awesome. Being able to get some time away from your roommate or even just to be able to study in quiet is something you'll appreciate.
@HandiBekki Im in res right now too... I did have a mold issue but there's steps to prevent it. Open your blinds and pull them to the side during the day. (Make sure nothing covers your windows) and when your in class, if you can, open your window. (I've used my blowdryer multiple times!) And mop up water as soon as soon it accumulates. This helps air flow :) Also, when you shower, turn of the fan before, during, and keep it running for an hourish later... It sucks up moisture too.
@HandiBekki I had a bit near my window but not too bad. Keeping the fan going after your shower is key. I had some behind the wall, but that's because the guy upstairs left his kitchen sink on and went to class :/
@noobifyjr Sorry, but I haven't a clue if the music program is any good. You don't HAVE to cook for yourself, but it can be fun. There's something like 7 places to eat on campus. Selection is pretty good. Anything from lasagna to stir-fry's.
@brendanvandyke Well, I can only give you my point of view. My program (Biotechnology Technologist) was terrible. So poorly organized. The teachers had no idea what we we're learning in any of our other classes, which can be pretty important when you're working in labs. I've heard similar things from people in other courses.
@RaventailBlacktalon You're welcome :) The rooms ARE pretty big. It was nice to have your own room. I came from the same small town as my roommate, but when you want some time alone, it's not all that hard to come by.
It's weird to see an empty table, no spider man hanging on the wall, no dicks or profanity drawn on our fridge, the smoke alarm isnt hanging from the ceiling, both of our phones are still hooked up and on the desk, and there isnt 2-3 bags of garbage on the floor.
@Phroxen37 No kidding man. All my shit is neat and tidy. My bed is made, clothes aren't everywhere, no disgusting shits that aren't ours resting in the toilet. What a change hahaha
@musicalLover21 im taking the paralegal program this year and then after this year im transferring into carleton university in ottawa for honours business law. yuppp. :)
@sparhawk16 im takin the paralegal program. but only for the first year, transferring out to go to university. decided on being a lawyer. haha. but whatevs this year will be a lot of fun! so does this mean i may see you on campus this fall?
@zacsgirlx Oh that's cool. I know a couple people in the paralegal program. And yeah you may just see me around on campus! I won't be living in residence this year, but I'll probably be around.
@Dig2GoldZ It wasn't really that hard. It was poorly organized. None of the teachers knew what we were doing in any of our other classes. One day you'd show up to a lab and the prof would ask us what we're learning in the theory class. We'd be doing labs that were 2 weeks ahead of the theory class.
The program is was introduced either 3 or 4 years ago, so it's still pretty crappy. Some profs honestly did not know what they were teaching. If you do take it, wait a week to buy books.
@Dig2GoldZ We didn't even use most of the books I bought. I paid about $600 on books when I only needed about half that. Try and buy them used as well. If you try and sell back the new ones, you'll get about 1/4 of what you paid. Even in perfect condition.
i'm not going into a resident because literally all i need to do is take the 171 and then the 95 to baseline. but i am probably going there in 2010 if all works out and it is right now.
i applied to algonquin :) and def gna be in residence as well coz the rooms are sweet! i applied for the Paralegal program. nd im so pumped to go to school here :) thanks so much for the video! fall 2010 !!
Yeah no problem. Before I came to Algonquin I had been wondering what the rooms were like, but there weren't any vids. So decided to make my own. They're the biggest of the three schools in Ottawa too. Carleton's res is a bit bigger than our individual rooms. And they have to share a bathroom with neighbours. So all in all, I think we struck gold.

Yeah this is the standard room.
It's pretty sweet actually.
There's basic cleaning every two weeks.
Someone comes in and cleans out your bathroom and your kitchen area.
100% wireless campus, free local calls in your room, etc.
I recommend staying in campus.
