  • No matter how "renowned" the game may be, it is undeniable that FF7 was the beginning of the end of the truly good RPGs. It single-handedly started the chain of emo-tard main characters and ridiculously useless parties.

The only point I can dispute is that Hack .GU was an awesome series of games. But, that is just me. (And Magna Carta at least has a unique style. Somewhat.)

  • Being a Final fantasy fan-boy, theres one negative aspect of the game that even i have to aknowledge, and that is the game beeing way too easy. So for you, who seems to be quite expirienced in terms of jrpgs, to be complaining about the grind seems kinda odd. And i never really understood how cloud is supposed to be an emo, unless feeling sad after losing a loved one qualifies you as an emo, in which case this would apply for any human being.

  • Around the end he complains about having to grind. I beat ff7 about a year ago for the first time, and I didn't grind at all. Not only did I not grind I also didn't look anything up on the internet or do many side quest. I still found sepheroth to be extremely easy. So easy in fact that I felt let down. All you need is a decent strategy and the game is so easy you don't need to grind. So I think it's unfair to complain about the need to grind. JUST DON'T BE DUMB AND YOU WONT HAVE TO!

  • I had no idea the ff7 fan base was so fucking insane!!!!

My first rpg.... FF1 and Dragon warrior!!

  • Okay here is me defending the game and I am not a fanboy, I started playing the game yesterday:

    1. You don’t hate the game,you hate it’s fanboys.

2.You bash the graphics? The game is on 3 F**king Disks in 1997 on PS1,so it’s either better story, wider landscape, more quests and longer game, more weapons or plain better graphics.

    3. Fighting the same enemies,I can bet my ass that Breath Of Fire has repetitive enemies, and to be honest,FF7 doesn’t even require too much of that. You just hate japan

  • Ive never agreed with someone so much while simultaneously thinking they were such a fucking dork. Quite an accomplishment...

  • my first rpg was finl fantasy 9, not 7, it was pretty fun but in retrospect it wasn't pretty inventive. and i am very sure that the disgaea series beats the shit out of the ff series.

  • I liked this game well enough at the time, but mostly because I'd been stuck on the Nintendo 64 without any real RPGs to play. Even when I still liked FF though (X is where I jumped ship), I always thought that this was one of the weaker entries of the series. Clould was horrid protagonist (his fucking unskippable technicolor meltdown was insufferable), the story was both incomprehensible and insufferable, and it had more homoerotic subtext than Superbowl Sunday.

  • It might be nostalgia... but I love the hell out of Final Fantasy VII.

  • man this is bad ass. i suppose that kinda supports one of the points you were making though haha. in any case i played this pretty much non stop for the 50 or so hours and i was never bored at any point so yeah. i just hate how this was essentially the starting point of the emo bullshit and all incarnations of cloud and the others piss me off. fuck 10 and 13 especially. the best is 12 followed by tactics advance then this imho

  • grinding? i don t seem to remember doing that at all and i replayed this two summers ago i think it was. getting omni slash was pretty easy and sephiroth was a breeze, beat him on the first go. i never spent an extended time training and i coasted right through. as for cloud being a whiny emo bitch in this game i dont really see it but maybe thats cause when this game came out i was still in fuckin kindergarten and i still carry those memories of watching my older brother playing thinking,

  • So, what RPG's would you recommend, besides Dragon Age: Origins and Breath of fire?

  • @jimbolimbo369

My favorite RPG of all-time is Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. Give that a whirl.

  • @jimbolimbo369

    Vagrant Story!

Now there is an RPG from the past they never managed to recreate!

  • @jimbolimbo369 Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines and Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. Both are glitchy as hell, if you get them download the community made patches or they will be absolutely unplayable. Patched up they're great though.

Then there's KOTOR, The Baldur's Gate series, Neverwinter Nights. If you want turn based, Arcanum has a mode for that, and you can't get better than the first two Fallout games.

  • Venom, nice sir.

  • I searched out this video since Razor references his hate for FF7 so much, but there is very little substance here.

Graphics suck? No shit, that's why people want a remake.

Grinding? Nah, not just for the main story line.

Overrated by fanboys? It happens. If you want to put them in their place, then outline the game's supposed critical faults. Something failed to be done here.

Too emo/melodramatic? Whatever, that's mostly just personal preference.

  • @SandViper I disagree with the idea of a remake. Square-Enix have basically been beating the FF horse to death over the years, and a remake will only make them look even more terminally unimaginative.

  • @SandViper So, you're criticizing his personal preference by stating your personal preference and defending your personal preference by stating it is personal preference? A master of argument you are not.

  • @purplesquirrl I didn't state my personal preference, I said 'whatever'. Deciding if something as subjective as 'too much melodrama' is a valid criticism that everyone should take to heart is too much of a mess to get into, especially with the YT character limit.

  • I respect anyone's opinion of they do not like this game, but I have to say that the haters in general can be a lot more annoying than the fans.

  • And people complain about the review. Hell I actually liked the Ranma and DB series (up to GT) But I still agree with xRFx over here. I played Final Fantasy 6 (which is known as 3 in the states) and that story was more engaging than this one. Hell, when you need a movie, and a series of other games to EXPLAIN everything in the past (which could be done in any game) but overall stating Cloud took Zach's role (and tried to take his girl)... with the gameplay from 6... ya know there's an issue...

  • @xRazorFistx

I don't care if you like the fact I agree with you or not, even though I like anime and what not, but Final Fantasy 7, yes, same gameplay as the older versions, and the overdone crying they have done was enough for me to want to beat my head against the wall. I actually WANTED to find everyone in Final Fantasy 6, but in 7, I was worried one of the newer members would have their own emo moments, and I was still dealing with Idenity crisis Cloud over here. But that's just how I am...

  • On the liking anime point... some anime. I can't stand Bleach, but DB, DBZ, Ranma, I seem fine with. Hell, I think I stopped watching it and only watch the Abridged DBZ now days due to comedy.

  • In a nutshell however, I agree with your vid. That's my summary. I tend to agree on your points on many games, to include that Marvel VS Capcom 3, what in the fkk am I looking at, time of attacks of High Contrast. I can beat it, sure, but still it's the principle of the fkking matter. (Yes I am spelling that 4 letter word with 2 ks and and f as a type of censoring, though that won't last too much longer I assure you.)

  • Surprised xRazorFistx hasn't made a Retrospective for Breath of Fire yet.

  • While I really do hold FF7 dear to my heart I will admit that it launched the entire franchise, and much of the videogame RPG community, into a very single minded direction which I feel has alienated me from playing RPGs.

  • VIDEO SUMMARY: I hate what's rightfully renowned and popular and instead prefer a relatively more obscure option. AM I COOL YET GUYS?

    Haters gonna hate.

  • @blehjh

    Breath of Fire? Obscure?

It's a Capcom game! Have you even turned 12 yet? Are you even old enough to be watching this? It's age-restricted, you know.

  • @xRazorFistx Right, so because I prefer something that has a comparably wider reaching and longer lasting influence than another title, I must be a little kid. Adorable.

As a fan of a title that made smaller waves upon its release, I know this might be difficult to recognize, but the fact remains that BF is *relatively* more obscure. BF looks adorable and charming, but to tout it over VII makes you come across like the gaming equivalent of a hipster.

  • @blehjh Not everyone likes FF7. Either accept that or grab your tissue box and whine somewhere else.

  • @KurikazuTheWarrior Come back to me when you stop confusing not enjoying something with shitting on a 15 year old classic just to seem hip and contrarian.

  • @blehjh Its not that im trying to be "hip or contrarian", why would you think im trying to be and why the hell WOULD i want to be? Its just i simply dont like the game.

MY oldest brother downloaded the game from PSN, i played it. It had potential but fell flat 2 hours in.

I enjoy FF,FF2, FF4, and hell even FF10. But FF7 just isnt like the others. You want reasons? I can give you many, but do realize its my opinion o.k.

  • I've played Final Fantasy VII, but it's not my first RPG. FFIV was my first RPG and I find that one to be the best of the series, though I will not lower myself to otaku-ism because of it. I don't think of FFVII as a bad game it's just I don't see what's so amazing about to the point of gaming godhood. You people want a better JRPG, play Lunar or any of the Shin Megami Tensei games. Razorfist I've watched almost all your videos and only one thing comes to my mind, is your life's work just hating

  • @gigawarman12 (con't from last comment) things?

  • All and all it seems that the biggest problem with FF7 that you had are the fanboys who will not see any flaw in it. I do think that Breath of Fire 2 is one of the best RPGs that I have ever played. But I also feel that FF7 maybe better. Only after I beat the game will I have my answer.

  • Materia system I mean.

  • Also I feel with the advent of the mateia system, and the ATB (Active Time Battle which FF4-6 had) gave the game enough in terms of gameplay to make it so the player had more of an ability to customize the party more then even Breath of Fire allowed.

  • To be honest I am on the eve of actually playing through FF7. I played a good deal of JRPGs, and a few western RPGs, so I can compare FF7 to what I already played. RazorFist you do make many good points about FF7 in this video, and I will agree with you that it isn't the best game ever. However your complaint about it being to repetitive can be said about many RPGs before and after its release.

  • To say that it = balls is a bit over the top. I mean the graphics aren't bad at all. Seeing it's 1 of the early ps1 games and it is pretty huge for a ps1 game.Ok so they stole gameplay from a classic but that doesn't make it bad. a lot of games do that. And sometimes even better than the original.

The story is emo and mediocre at best i give you that but the grinding you need to do in the game isn't different from breath of fire. It's just that BOF does it while your following the main quest.

  • Humph. How I detest auto-correct. Thank you for pointing that out, Razorfist, as I hadn't noticed.

  • Really... That's all I can say. The fact that the people defending Razorfist's video automatically jump to "FF VII FANBOYS ARE FAGS AND MASTURBATE TO THE GAME AND THEY'RE STUPID" just shows that you all have no real arguments of your own. Come up with an actual argument of your own points before you respond to my valid, well-written comment with your inane dribble.

  • @kefka151

Not well-written enough, as it happens, to avoid confusing the word 'drivel' with 'dribble'.

  • I do not like the game, nor do I like this video.

  • stop bouncing on Final Fantasy's cock with that big grin and stop treating this game like zelda fanboys treat the ocarina of time. No their not bad games but that aren't that good for people praising them and calling them the best in the series. TO ME the best FF and Legend of Zelda game's are the older ones

  • you know just to name a fuckin few. Final Fantasy 7 isn't that great of a game for you people needing to grab a box of tissues and a bottle of lotion every time you see something about it. Jesus fuckin hell get a hold of yourselves people if you get mad at this video or my comment it's probably cause for once you hear someone not giving this game praise and treating it like the holy fuckin grail.

  • first off Razorfist fuckin thank you.i was so fuckin pissed about people bitching about how FF VII isnt going to get remade for the ps3. all i got to say is. SHUT THE FUCK UP this game isnt that fuckin good for you god-damn fanboys/girl drooling over this fuckin game and blowing your load all over it.is it bad NO it is so good that people every fuckin where in the god-damn FF world sayng this game is the best rpg. there are alot better rpg's than this. breath of fire, shining force and xenosaga.

  • You spend most of the review just bitching about the graphics and the die hard fan base. Your only complaints about the actual game are: 1. Bad graphics. You realize it's a psone game right? Being dated doesn't equal bad. 2. Gameplay is too similar to other JRPG's. You know that you sound just like Yahtzee bitching about Nintendo never evolving. I know you're trying to piss off fanboys REALLY hard, but spoonyone did it 4 years earlier and about a 1000 times better.

  • First about the graphics. This is caused by something called COMPRESSION. This lowers the quality of the image or sound (ala .png looking better than .jpeg.) This was a REQUIRED move to make such an immense game fit on a profitable amount of discs. If it could have been done on DVD it would have looked MUCH nicer due to that extra room.

Then pretty much the rest of your review is hating on people you don't agree with and making strawman and what could be considered ad hominem attacks.

  • You know as a kid I loved the art style and design of Kingdom Hearts, FFVII and VIII, and I still do, but the fanboys just make me ashamed of it. Shame classics like FFIV or FFVI are overshadowed by the mediocre newer games.

  • @oxe161 Have you actually played through say,X, XII, XIII, or XIV, because all of them were actually pretty freaking amazing, just not the same as the old ones. They tried something new (Conditional Turn-Based Battle, Active Dimension Battle System, Command Synergy Battle, and the Armory System respectively.) And while I would love to see a fall back to the style of FFIX, the new games are quite good as well.

  • @Tikian12 I have, er I do see why they're good, but I just don't like them myself. Except the music though.

  • I just want to say that I respect your reviews and I sincerely enjoy you as a reviewer. And as much as I respect you have your own opinions...I couldn't disagree with you more on your points. But seeing as how you are on of the few reviewers here on youtube that I actually respect and admire (you, Asa and a few others), I feel that a comment like this does not do you justice. You deserve better which is why I will make a video responses to a few of your points. Hopefully we can keep this civil.

  • FF7 was a huge step backwards in every way aside from graphics. Probebly why it "has not age well". Less characters. Less characters in your party. Less character development. Less parties. A character you cannot remove from your party. Add a crappy storyline, an over the top, pathetically obvious attempt to make me care about a character I barely knew dying and an emo protagonist I wanted to slap? FF7 sucked. I'll never understand mainstream. I wish you'd stop killing stuff I like.

  • Comment removed

  • I have a theory that why the japanese made alot of fiction with inner drama and emo storylines , I think it has to do with Neon Genesis Evangelion. It was popular around the time final fantasy 7 came out , hell square even ripped off the story of that show and made a rpg with a similiar story called Xenogears.

  • @AlbinoRobotNamedGerm Did I say it was?

  • Wow, you really hate video games. And I'm pretty sure you either didn't pay attention to the dialogue in FF7 at all, or this all supposed to be ironic.

  • @kefka151 *immatates buzzer* wrong! -_-" RazorFist actually made valid points due to the games length, grind-heavy gameplay and some of the worst video game character backstories Ive ever seen in my life. Now if you dont agree, good for you maybe you can go back to chomping on Pocky and writing fan fiction on how Sepheroth is the greatest being in existance, rather than getting on someone for an oppinion....... idiot. -_-"

  • @Globalgladiator7

You spelled opinion wrong. Also going to the EATING POCKY LOOK AT MY ANIME BURN!!!! Shows how little faith you have your own opinions that you have to jump down on someone's throat.

  • characters to be unfounded, mainly because I feel that they are based upon your personal dislike of the fanboys and spinoffs. Therefore, I find parts of your argument to be invalid.

  • 2:The pictures you show of Cloud were made AFTER the released, mainly with the release of Advent Children. You are not reviewing the FF VII spinoffs and movies, but rather the original game for the Playstation. The polygons used to create the characters were not nearly detailed enough to show such things as facial feature and makeup, so in the context of the original game, it is unfair to call all of the characters "emo" and "faggots." So, to summarize, I find your complaints against the charac

  • but never states outright, is also true. However, annoying, idiotic fanboys, and your personal dislike of them, should not be factored into why you dislike this game. And your hatred of the characters of this game also feel rather unfounded to me. FF VII detractors (such as yourself) like to point out the imaginary fact that Cloud is an emo in heavy makeup.

1:You yourself are a heavy metal lover, so why would you dislike the use of makeup on a guy? Many great rock bands wore makeup.

    2:The pictu

  • their views on why this is a good game.

1:Sephiroth. The "Sephie-Shrines" claim that he's great because he has:

a:Good motivation. I'm astounded that something this basic, which should be a part of any character's makeup, can be praised a laudable.

b:Sexy eyes and hair. Again, this is irrelevant. He's a video game character, not a real person, so fetishizing him is unhealthy.

c:His sword. Oh my, a super long katana. I've never seen THAT before.

So I'll concede that a point which you implied, bu

  • Alright. I'll concede that the game can get rather grind heavy, though not as much as other games. Besides, I've yet to find an FF game that doesn't require a certain level of grinding. And I was mistaken on the graphics as well, you compared them to BR, not BoF, making that another valid point. However, I can't help but feel that your professional opinion on this game is corrupted by your annoyance at the Square Enix fanboys. Looking at some of their views, I've taken the liberty of dissecting

  • 7:31-7:38 Unless, of course, "Deflower your sphincter" is not a vulgar way of saying "difficult"?

  • @kefka151

Way to miss the fucking point.

That was not a remark about the game's difficulty.

That was a remark about the fact that you can't simply play through the story while trying to minimize the number of enemies you have to fight, and be strong enough to defeat the majority of the game's bosses.

It's a remark about how grind-heavy the game is.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Oh. My. God. Did you seriously just claim that Sephiroth is actually a difficult fight? Seriously??? That alone is enough to make somebody who has actually played FF VII gasp for breath. Super Nova, Sephiroth's most powerful signature move, is limited to, at most, a cap of around 4K damage, give or take some due to error on my part. And the definition of RPG is a game in which you defeat enemies to gain experience to level up and become stronger. If you don't like the gr

  • Oh, poorly drawn, badly pixilated faux 3-D? How dare a game released for the Playstation in 1997 not look as good as Dragon Age Origins or Mass Effect! The fact that it was made before 2007 alone is enough to destroy any vestige of credibility for Square!

  • @kefka151

Did you even watch this video?

I compared it to a game made in the SAME YEAR... using the same faux-3D approach.

The Blade Runner game STILL looks good to this day. FF7... does not.

Secondly... I've watched this video dozens of times at this point... I can not find a single moment where I claimed Sephiroth was difficult. Perhaps you'll time stamp it? Prove you aren't full of shit?

  • @xRazorFistx hey razorfist how mad would you be if square remade the game and brought it to the ps3 with updated graphics???

  • Alright, so the gameplay is the same as earlier iterations of the Final Fantasy series. How can you say that such a thing makes it a bad game? That implies that there is something flawed with the gameplay, and if so, then that means that you think Final Fantasy VI is a "piece of shit." Please, if you think that, just say it outright, so that anyone with half a brain can condemn your reviews to the rubbish heap with the likes of Irate Gamer and NC17.

  • Five minutes in and I haven't really heard a valid complaint other than:

    1: It wasn't innovative (I agree)

Honestly, why the hell do you complain about a game made by a company FROM JAPAN being too Japanese? That's like you going to an Italian restaurant and then complaining that there's too much pasta and not enough deep fried lard based products.

  • You're awesome man

  • First RPG i ever played? FF7 and i loved it, played FF8 and liked it, then played 9 loved that as well but at 10 i wasn't very impressed... never played 12 and 13 was at least pretty i suppose...

Saw ur review like ages ago and liked it as well razorfist. But i can see pass my rosetinted glasses and agree on your valid points, still won't make me hate FF7 though, nostalgia is that strong. BTW Breath of fire series kicked ass.

  • lol a reviewer who was pissed they never beat sephiroth

  • What are your thoughts on Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus? First they make a needless and unnecessary sequel to cash in, then they make a sequel to the sequel where they took the worst characters from an unappealing cast and made them the protagonists. Then they made it a third person shooter. And then they made some kind of prequel for PSP which I didn't have the heart to even try.

  • Asalieri sent me. I am happy that I'm not the only one who loved Breath of Fire 1.

  • The only part I agree with in this video is the comments about Breath of fire. Anything else I am gonna have to disagree with, sorry.

  • I don't know, I never really played FF7 except for maybe a couple of minutes or maybe one hour at best. I don't really think I'd have a problem with most of the things mentioned in this video because I for one am neither a weeaboo or whatever you call that nor would I have a problem with the gameplay. How would I know? Well as stated in this video, FF7 is apparently a lot like the previous ones in its gameplay style so i think I can imagine what it'd be like. The only thing that'd really be a pr

  • oblem for me is that fact that you have to level grind so much at the end of the game which I admit, that would probably really annoy me. As I said previously I don't have a problem with most of the other things including the style of the characters (the anime look and all that). Why? I guess things like that are just easy for me to ignore and don't really bother me that much. After all, in my opinion all a good RPG needs is a good story to keep me interested and fun gameplay.

  • "but your this review was really on the point." I meant But "This" review, I was really tired last night

  • Fuck. I hate SQUEEENIX! FUCK!

  • As a child I used to hate every game from the RPG genre, but over years I learned to love them, especially the Final Fantasy -games. Last year it was actually the fist time ever, when I played Final Fantasy VII... and I loved it.

  • XD For some reason this make me laugh! :3

  • @xRazorFistx I think I can come with good arguments why I flat out HATE Final Fantasy VII. Inbox me if you want my input on the whole thing.

  • At least the males in Skyrim looks like bad ass vikings. Western RPG FTW.

  • Why is this even called RPG?

    There's no Role Playing.

  • This seems to be a video more about how JRPG's have changed because of FF7 (Thats at least what I'm taking from it) as well as how FF7 has not aged well. I was expecting a review of FF7 not just 2 minute of raging at the graphics then 30 seconds of RPG's ARE/WERE GRINDY THIS SUCKS. Also what were you talking about all the environments being the same? Did you mean how you revisit some areas? I dont get what point you were making can you clarify? Thanks

  • int main() { int gameplay; char reason_gp; int story; char reason_st; int graphics; char reason_graph; gameplay = 6; reason_gp = "Because I enjoyed it but it was repetitive which was common for rpg's of that time just look at pokemon"; story = 0; reason_st = "OVER ACTING"; graphics = 7; reason_graph = "For the time it was good graphics, sure there was better out at the time, but it was still above average for its time"; }
  • Its strange seeing this but the quality of your vids have improved a lot, but your this review was really on the point. FF7 was good for its day but unlike FF6 or FF3 in the states, it has not age well, also the emo thing, yeah its all over anime, in makes me wish for the days of Clint Eastwood in his spaghetti westerns or Rambo, when Men were men and not a bunch of wimps

  • @UnforgivenRonin Maybe I'm fooling myself, but I seem to remember an era when men uinderstood how to be sensitive without acting un-manly. Now we've lost that knowledge, and our society and our culture are worse off without it... And it doesn't help that people have swung so far in the other direction, so that the least hint of emotion, no matter how genuine, is treated as wussiness. "Oh, you cried at your grandmother's funeral? F*gg*t."

  • @jakesbrain

I was talking about video games, movies and anime, that the main charcters are just a bunch of emo/complainers, even looking at Rambo and clint eastwood, they had emotional moments but it made their character strong, but now being emo is a story driven plot.

  • @UnforgivenRonin What do you mean by FF7 not ageing well? This is still one of my favorite RPGs of all time, and I played the old ones too (which if you ask me, those have not age well). So please explain why it hasn't aged well.

  • Does the 9th mouthbreather brigade include a picture of Yahtzee?

  • @RaineMan213

    Certainly does.

And it's meant in the literal sense. More than any single aspect of Zero Punctuation (the overextended chocolate metaphors, the thesaurus abuse, the lack of inspiration, etc.) what pisses me off about Yahtzee is that you can literally hear him breathing through his mouth in his videos. Couple that with the fact that his voice seems centered at the back of his nasal cavity... he's like every obsessive neckbeard in a fedora I've ever met.

  • While I agree FF7 isn't -that- amazing, this entire review was extremely verbose and it just seemed like pure unjustified rage towards a genre that he would deem as weak.

I heard complaints, but not a great deal else.

  • Meh, JRPGs are kinda shitty (usually there are key games that add new elements and therefore...are actually worth playing lol) but you can say this about every single genre. All I have to do is utter the phrase...Call of Duty...cringe

  • FF7 is very overrated. Most of the characters are unlikeable. The graphics haven't aged well. The worst of all are the fanboys. Always hyping how this mediocre game is the best, etc. I've played much better RPGs.

  • Man, you had to have been dropped on your head as a baby. Metal sucks, your opinion sucks, go die in a fire

  • @pogopopex4 Go die in a fire? For disliking FF7? Isn't that a little harsh?

  • Thumbs up if Asalieri sent you here!

  • yeah and what games have you made that are so great? ill wait...

  • A FF fanboy flagged your video goddamit.

  • @nljuggalo

That happened all the way back in 2009, actually. When this video pissed the entire internet off initially. When I re-uploaded it, I guess the content ID got tripped and it was auto-flagged.

  • @xRazorFistx Lame.

  • Never cared for Adventure or RPG games, till I played Light Crusader. It encouraged my Bullet Hell Platformer Beat'em up tastes, to take a look at other genres that required more strategy. I have played Earthbound on an Emulator, I liked it, I played it to the end. That tells me RPGs do stand a chance with me. I am glad to hear an RPG fan say about FF7 exactly what I was able to see without even playing it past the first level.

  • On another note, Razor, can you point me in the direction of where you got that intro music? :P

  • @ChocoboDreams

It's a song called 'Omnishred' by Powerglove. From the "Metal Kombat for the Mortal Man' album. I used another song from the record for the intro to my Mega Man X3 review.

  • @xRazorFistx Powerglove. Thanks, I just looked them up. I have all of "TheJohnnyDeath"s stuff on my iPod right now, Powerglove will fit right in. Just wish I had some tabs!

  • I don't think this was meant to be a serious review, for the people that were flaming him. In either case, what I'm seeing in the comment section is just your average wannabe intellectual taking a shot at popularity just for the sake of doing so.

There's no denying Final Fantasy 7 is a great game, and a great RPG. Sure, it's milked, and over-hyped, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a great game, and that's coming from someone that's played just about every console RPG you could name.

  • @ChocoboDreams FF7 blows.

  • Oh for shits and giggles, type "final fantasy vii map analysis" into Google and have a look at some of the shit you actually got to see in this game.

"same shit backgrounds" what a fucking joke of a reviewer.

  • @darkwhitty Dude just stop crying from knowing the real truth.

  • Oh and grinding: at no point were you forced to grind in the game unless you wanted to take on the 2 additional bosses that were added to the western version of the game, again lies.

The only things that can really be attacked in FF7 is the argument that the story is too similar to other JRPG's and that the battle system was a bit on the weak side. Not enough to justify utterly retarded statements such as "FF7 is not only terrible, its a new sort of terrible"

    The game was amazing, fact.

  • @darkwhitty Sorry, no. Your opinion that the game is amazing is not fact. Especially after you admit that it does very little, if anything, to improve on the gameplay or story of its predecessors and contemporaries.

Being the same doesn't make you "amazing". It makes you "average".

  • >>>

-Bad graphic/Boring backgrounds- Wrong, the graphics were great for the time. As for backgrounds, wow you show 4 screens of the 1st reactor to demonstrate how they are “the same shit” backgrounds..?

How did you not see: The underwater reactor, deserts, mountains, snow areas, ice caves, farm, multiple towns ranging from the run down Coral, the boggy streets of Midgar, Cosmo canyon and the asian themed Wutai. Oh and how about the Golden saucer, the most colourful & diverse place in the game?

  • Terrible review. This guy breaks down logically why other game are bad, but not FF7. If you hate the game fine, but back up why. This was 90% insults and rage.

    The few arguments are:

-It's the same as BOF- Isn't that the same as saying FPS's copy Doom?

-Cloud whimpering- His hometown was burn down and his lover murdered. I think it's acceptable that he mentions this from time to time, it would be a bit difficult for him to not mention. Does he really go on about it that much? Answer NO. >>>

  • @darkwhitty Cloud is a bitch... nuff said.

  • Meh...I admit it. I loved ff7 because I was a kid and it was my first jRPG :)

  • FF 7 had a lot of problems but the ATB system was not one of them. Turn based gaming is a sub-genre, and a legitimate one. If you don't like the pace of turn based combat then you just don't like that sub-genre of games, and that's fine. I hate some entire full genres (fps games for example) but I can't stand when ppl berate an rpg for using a turn based combat system. That's not a flaw, just like painting a car black is not a flaw. Unless you don't like black.

  • @xRazorFistx WRPGs also throw you into a world represented only by the empty shell that you fill it with. You are your own character made to behave the way you want it to. That might be all people want in a "role playing" game. It goes back to the JRPG vs WRPG debate. Others don't mind pre-made characters already created by the game's designers. If you want to get real literal with what "role playing" is, then you play a role with every game in existence, even with a fucking puzzle game.

  • Lol I'm confused about what your angry at... are you angry at FF7 or game developers for copying it until this day?

  • Dude I agree with you 100%

  • i didnt think anyone else heard of magnacarta ps2 lol

  • Damn dude, you were really reaching on some of these points. Flat-out bad review.

  • I love you. Can I have our babies that grow up to listen to Maiden and Priest.?

  • I sent some hate mail to that address... I had no idea how bad your grammar was man. ;)

  • I will never get tired of watching your reviews.

  • My first RPG was Golden Sun. It was such a fun game to play as a kid.

  • whats with nobody having parents in rpgs?

  • Comment removed

  • My first RPG was... hmm... good question. XD Uhm... I wasn't into RPGs when I was younger (even though I love the shit out of them now). I did watch people play both Final Fantasy 8 and 9 though; and they let me test them some. But it wasn't until Morrowind was released I owned my first RPG (which to this day still probably is my favorite RPG). Now, I'm going to try to catch up on older RPGs for NES, SNES and PS1.

While I think you where a tad harsh against FF7 - I also think it seems overrated.

  • My first RPG was The Legend of Dragoon, FUCK FINAL FANTASY 7(lol i still have it though, not anywhere near as amazing as LOD)

  • As is the claim that this is a grindfest. "FF" is known to genre fans to be among the easiest games in the genre, each containing at least 3 speech-stopping game breakers(W-Summon/KoTR+Mimic anyone?), and even a regular run of this game with zero side-questing requires not a single session of actual grinding. This game in specific IMO is somewhere about medium without grinding, but fans of OTHER JRPGs complain that this game is far too easy regardless. Sorry, you must just suck.

  • The reactor gets reused, (Fridge Logic: which makes sense because it's a power plant, and one seems to be enough functional designs, every High School in my County does the same thing.) aside from that, the "same background" thing is utter bullshit.

  • I love how you make fun of the stereotype of Nomura's character designs whilst displaying a picture of the character who has without question the least amoung of that bullshit going on in the history of Tetsuya Nomura's career as a character designer. Also, "DMC", an adventure game? I'd call that slip of the tongue, but you clearly went back later and edited the "DMC" picture on there, when "DMC" is not only not adventure, but not even "Action-Adventure"! Y'know? "Zelda"? "Metroid"? "LoK"?

  • i liked this game. You know, when it was first realeased. Oh but the main problem is the fanboys/girls. I am an anime nerd but do i go rant on a half-assed 3-d game is the best game in the francise? I mean those people actually like FFX. FF fucking X. There are plenty better FF games made years before. And because of all the shitty fanbase, everyone thinks this is what an "RPG" is. So all rpgs are Zelda copys or repetitive turn based "action".

  • Nice review, but I didn't care for Devil May Cry dropping.

  • Man...FUCK this guy

  • What point in FFVII was so tough you needed to grind to advance? I consider it one of the easiest games I've ever played and don't see how anyone could enjoy any other JRPG if they thought FFVII threw too many difficulty leaps at the player.

  • Dude, lol your reviews are hilarious. Do you have a hate for japanophiles or just everyone that even appreciates some thing of Japanese origin.

  • To PhantasyGod:

Final Fantasy XIII was not catered to Western RPG fans. I don't like many WRPG's myself but Mass Effect and Knights of the Old republic was good.

Don't say FFXIII was catered to WRPG fans, because it wasn't. Hell I am a JRPG fan and I don't even fucking like the game.

  • Well I liked it anyway.

  • I've only played through this game once, but I don't remember having to grind that much. The game was actually pretty easy for me, and I thought the battles and materia system were great. However, I hate the story and characters. Cloud is annoying, and the cutscenes drag too much since they consist entirely of Cloud whining and the rest of the characters helping him find more things to complain about.

  • That is my main problem with this game so far. Having to be forced to go on sidequests I don't want to be on to learn about characters I don't care about. I also don't care for when this game doesn' tell me what to do next.

  • Well...some of the music was okay.

  • Rpg fans should play more shin megami tensei games. Those are epic win.

  • @DFLOODyeaa Fuckin' A

  • The story was the selling point

Its what RPGs in the "Main Stream" seem to be all about now and days Be this huge Movie and lack as much gameplay as you can

It seems like only way get your RPGing now and days its with the really lesser makers

I think Dragon Quest like only "Main Stream" title that still holds well to its roots unlike Final Fantasy....

  • 4:50

Ramza doesn't deserve to be grouped up with those retards.

  • @StrifeTriggerDude Never heard of that game before, you've now made me want to look it up! Looks pretty cool so far. I'm going to give this game a whirl.

  • @StrifeTriggerDude I've known some better characters, not to bring you down or anything. Like Yangus from DragonQuest 8, Justin from Grandia. Justin is optimistic most of the time but after he realises that joking around and being too optimistic gets him nowhere he starts to get serious and mature. And when it comes to pessimistic characters, my all time favourite is Ryudo from Grandia 2. He's incredibely pessimistic the first half of the game but then totally changes and enjoys life more.

  • @Remixdj3 I didn't like when ryudo became optimistic because then he became a cliché optimistic person.

It was when he was rude and sour at life that i found him most interesting.

Millenia is my fav grandia 2 char though, she is fucking hilarious

  • Hey Razor Fist, do you like the Dragon Quest series? Almost all of them have old classic gameplay, but that's the main appeal. It stays classic. And it's also the main nemesis of Final Fantasy.

  • As far as FF rants go.... This one was very poorly made as very few points were made out side of the constant Japanese hating metaphors dropped. Honestly, all I could gather from this was "The gameplay sucked" "Its repetitve" and "The cutscenes are too long"

Which the last one seems kinda silly since it's a Role-playing Game and they're based entirely on story, so... of course there would be cutscenes.

I'd like to see a video thats actually constructive criticism. Unless thats your theme

  • the last good FF was FF6 or FF3 (i wont get into the numerical nonsense) that game kicked ass

  • @Rajatinable FF6 was great but I think some better ones exist.

  • @DFLOODyeaa yeah some do,but i still think ff6 is the best one in the series.

Not only in artwork, but in dialogue and in the skill sets themselves:

1:I find that the art in ff6 look like paintings literally and i love that pre 3d art work that put so much work into the world around them.

In 3d,it feels like they put less creativity and more special effects and 3d cinematics to make everything look as real as possible.

2:Things like the opera house are genius in dialogue event.

    3:rand finale

  • @DFLOODyeaa i mean grand finale:nuff said..

Sure dancing mad is wonderfull, but my favorite is grand finale, even more so than dancing mad.

I just love the music combined with ultros being the most loveable octopus.

  • I'm a Final Fantasy fan, but even I would say FF7 is extremely over rated and milked.
