This gamer caught a couple of lucky breaks in the first engagements, still a good strategy. Every time I reach the north east city it has entrenched AT so I didn't think that a quicker victory was possible.

i did it in three turns no prestige spenditures and no reinforcements (i only use elite reinforcements if i do), but this guy did good.its best to only buy fighters in warsaw and mostly through the whole game as air superiority is THE key to war.!

pretty much the 4 turn victory stands and falls with the first infantry attack on Kutno. If he gets a rugged defense there, it's not gonna be a 4 turner. Also, getting there before the AI buys artillery is fundamental.

I was watching your video and i was trying do this same, what you have done. I'm good from history and i know that polish army in 1939 was poor. They shouldn't got lots of tanks, AT and artillery, but they have. I have played Panzer general forever

This is bullshit. You would never send your trucks forward like that unless you knew in advance where all the enemy units are.

Panzer General has good things going for it but the AI reinforcements pumped out like smarties if you don't go fast enough ruins everything and is not realistic (ex : France map).

For the people that cannot play PG on XP/Vista and/or don’t want to bother using Dosbox there are PG Forever; a remake which contain both Panzer General and Allied General (plus a few improvements like enhanced AI) and is really easy to install. For me, the only things that are really missing are the animations and movies.

I remember the very time time I played this game as a little kid... The Poles snuck a division from their city in the bottom right into my starting town while I was busy taking down Lodz.... I lost :(

Pissed off I played it again and won in 6 turns but was never that careless again.

Someone should actually make a remake of PG 1 with new better graphix and a pro map editor. I guess it would even be lucrative, since there is a huge fanbase for this game and how hard is it to make a hex based turn strategy nowadays? I believ that it could even be done by a semi proffesional, low budget game developing studio, as long as they would get the licence that is...

Panzer General and Fantasy General are my ideal turn based war strategy games. More complicated than Advance Wars but not as daunting as Steel Panthers. It's in that perfect Goldilocks zone.

I'm playing on medium.

The trick to the game is to build a strong airforce, it helps when beating the russians.

Start with 2 BF109's, then once they have experience 2 or higher, buy 2 wingman.

That way you attack first with your most experience 109s then mop up the less experience 109s.

You then get air supermacy and your inexperience 109's get experience.

Eventually your inexperience 109s will get to 3 stars and you buy them a wingman and reapeat the process.

Also, once you can buy FW190's by them and upgrade your 109's.

I had a force of 12 FW 190'S by the end of the game.

-4 Had 4 Star Experience or higher

-3 FW190's had 3 Stars or lower

-The rest were one or less

I got a major Victory Victory in Washington, god bless FJ's(Paratroopers) and Stukas for taking long distance objectives.

I literaly have my Stukas at unit strength 12 and 5 star experience, they can take out anything even Anti Aircraft guns

The only problem is regardless of the victory in the Washington Scenario.

It will end with the Americans launching an atomic bomb in Berlin.

if only the germans had more FW190's and Tiger and Panther Tanks.

Then you didn't get Major Victory. If you do, it will tell you that you managed to force the US to surrender before they had their A-bomb ready. It says that the rest of the nations of the world are now submitting or something like that. Minor Victory, and you and your forces get wiped out by a nuke, and a peace agreement is reached between Germany and the US.. so I suppose a cold war type situation starts then, with a German Europe vs US.

ONLY thing that ISNT perfect in this game- if u play at hard then new enemy units get 5 stars expirience your newly buyed units 0.

But anything else is PERFECT- only strategy game ever- all others are :

1.build base

2. build many units

3. Overrol the enemy

Norway was always a tough scenario... by the time I got to Russia my units were overstrength and elite and it was fairly easy to win the war. The early campaigns were more challenging. I hated those British Matilda tanks in France!

well, that's why you could also start your campaigns in 41 and 43. East 1941 you have a lot of somewhat out of date tanks (such as 2 star 38(t) tanks) that are useless against T-34 while with a 39 campaign you'll have Panzer IIIH or J only with 3-4 stars, those can easily take out 0 star T-34s.

And West 1943 is downright brutal. GL getting all that priceless equipment off Sicily before allied bombers and battleships shoot it to wrecks.

OTOH, West 1943 with a '39 campaign is a walk in the park. Usually by now you're sitting on 4-5 FW190A fighters, 4-5 Stars each, and upgrade your 5 Star Stukas to FW190G bombers that will destroy the entire Air Force in three turns, then your JU-88 will sink their entire fleet and your 5 Star Tigers and Panthers will hold the shore of Sicily without breaking a sweat.

I know this is for Panzer General but I have a question regarding Allied General. With Russia in the Pskov mission even if I can hold on to my three citiies I still lose but yet it says that is a minor victory. Can anyone explain why that is.

these games have conditional triggers. Like if you get anything other than the lowest victory it will progress to victory scenarios. Like if you fail to finish france in this game you cant invade england till much later, or if you manage to beat the russian scenarios but yet didnt do them quick enough it could progress you down the path of you defending germany. Basically if you lose the game is over, but if you win but not quick enough you still play, but down a different path.

It's been ten years or so... I think I remember using German Elefant tanks as a means of wiping anything away the US could throw at them. In fact they were devastating in defence, but only average in offence, so I "parked" them near enemy tanks so the Americans would attack them.

Of course, air supremacy is imperative.

It worked... but I never developed an elaborate plan or anything, and I've only played through it once.

Winning as Poland on the hardest setting was a bit harder, but still doable. Haven't played PG in ages, nowadays I stick to the real-time games like Hearts Of Iron 2

The problem with taking it so fast is loose out on money and upgrades to your units you could make by taking the other cities. As long as you take it for a major victory you get the same prestige award so why not grab more along the way?

well you are right, ýou loose money and xp for this map if you do it in 4 turns. But for all who don t believe the player. i tryed it myself on very easy and it worked the way he showed is correct.

Ahh, still a great game! I was also able to achieve this victory in 4 turns(and I took Kalisz), it's certainly possible. It was quite a surprise to me when I did it, starting my latest attempt at the 1939 campaign. Though it may be as much to do with the computer's stupidity as my skill (it seems to defend that far top left city more than the objective cities). I also managed to achieve a major victory in Low Countries in just 11 turns. PG is still great fun.

difficulty is irrelevant if you're standing next to the city and the AI can't purchase new equipment. Yeah, no shit it's gonna be hard to defeat an ATG in Lodz when it has three stars, but he got there before the AI buys stuff in Lodz.

It can be done. Not every time, but notice, how smart he is by not destroying the cavalry. Computer's bringing it up to full strength uses most of its prestige. Therefore he only takes risk of rugged defence twice, I think. All other fights are more or less at even odds, as far as terain is concerned.
