I think that guns should be banned for 24hrs before and after the president arrives in an area. It's just too dangerous to have people with loaded guns besides the secret service around the president.
The President is protected by the best bodyguard service in the world, highly trained and they are VERY VERY good at their job, most likely planned for every possible threat. They are trained to notice people who are armed, concealed and obviously will see those who are showing off their guns in plain sight. It wouldn't be a scaring them as they would just keep an eye on you before looking else where. Even if you are not armed with anything, SS will be on the look out for anyone suspicious.
I say lets go old west style. "PLEASE CHECK YOUR GUN AT THE BAR" if you don't want to give up your gun don't drink. or have a beer or two and be on your way. One thing is certain, less bar fights. As for the president having a special bubble, you cant be the leader of the free world and take others freedoms just because you have given them your company. Local laws should not change for one man. He knew the risks when he ran for office.
Instead of shooting at people who have big high-tech weapons that can mass murder, use your brain instead. Use reason with the police and military, not guns. They are people just like you so raise their consciousness about what they are doing. They have been brainwashed and you need to undo that with your brain, not your silly little weapon!
Unfortunately, not all neanderthals are extinct! Only now they are armed and dangerous.
People not being allowed to carry doesn't create a protective bubble around the president, it's more protective having more valid concealed weapon permit holders around. people still have the right to protect themselves with or without the president around. Like previously mentioned, anyone that has the intention of shooting someone isn't going to obey the laws anyway, and they're the reason we carry.
A person who is going to use his firearm to harm another person( let alone the president) is not going to care about any law they are breaking. because after all it IS illegal to murder. If i was the president i would want as many LEGALLY armed, GOOD people around to protect me. Firearms in the hands of good people saves lives, bad people dont care about laws.
i believe that every man is equal and many people would agree with me so why wouldnt that apply to somone just because there the president you can carry a firearm by any random civilian but once its the president all the rules change that's not right that would mean that he is more important than any other person including you and I and thats not right
I do not believe that there should be a "zone" around the president. Instantly losing one of this countries cherished rights because of one man is absurd.
There should be a president free zone around anywhere there are firearms. Liberal scum sucking presidents are 100times more dangerous than loaded guns in the hands of known felons. We didnt have 1/10th the violent crime in this country until the liberals started telling people that they don't have to be responsible for their own actions, and that inanimate objects were to blame.
YES OBAMA I AM TALKING SPECIFICALLY ABOUT YOU YOU LYING ILLEGAL ALIEN DOG!!
@nectoxicdragon I agree, there's is so m uch mystery, conspiracies, and treacherousness sorrounding this current president and, more specifically this administration that, while there is hope, we must wake up others before we are a vassal nation to our former enemies. I also want to say I'm neither republican or democrat, but libertarian of the Ron Paul type, I did not vote for either of these 'different political parties as Bush was as liberal as Clinton except he claimed religion.
@nectoxicdragon Well the one guy that is a good man in either of the big pary was figuratively speaking castrated by his OWN PARTY when he was running for the republican nomination and...MC Cain won? The one guy that had what it took was Ron Paul and he was figuratively speaking drowned by his own party. Well that's my two cents and may we get out of this alive and remember pretty much all be Conservative compared to our two 'progressive'/socialist parties that we cling to today.
As has been stated, "gun-free zones" only disarm the people we don't need to worry about. Proclaiming "no guns allowed" within a certain distance to the president would do no good to protect him, as the people who might actually try to harm him would not walk in with their weapons over their shoulders or in their hands. Further, a potential presidential assassin woud not be deterred by a "no guns allowed" sign any more than he would be by one that said "no murder allowed."
Many of you people are idiots that have no concept of reality. Those of you that say people should not be allowed to openly carry in the vicinity of the president are Naive beyond compare. Sure you could control those people openly carrying bit what about the ones that are concealing a firearm, perhaps illegally?
Further this is the US of A, In this country we are guaranteed the Right to oen guns and we are guaranteed the Right to BEAR them.
This is a comment from the link on Impact Guns website, The questions should people be allowed to legally carry firearms around the President of the United States. I say absolutely not!! Its a health care debate not a opportunity turn this into a whose got the biggest gun rally. Its ridiculous to think there is a need to display you weaponry like jewelry. Thats not responsible gun ownership just someone looking to intimidate people with a firearm.

You would take away too many of our rights as citizens to enforce this law...Police cant control who carries legally or illegally. Only the responsible gun owner will do the right thing. In a perfect world you would not have to worry. But its not is it...? And thats why i carry LEGALLY!!!
Gun free zones only disarm the law abiding citizen. The criminal will still be armed with no chance of a legally armed civilian stopping him before he does his damage (whatever the case may be). Gun free zones basically translate into free crime zones.
I say let everyone carry and there will be less crime, the whole reason for the gun hype is just because the government is trying to take full control and make this great land some type of communist hell hole, but i say fuck that! the south will rise goddammit and i say if you want my guns your ganna have to come get em! Jesswold by saying that u are giving the fed even more power that they was never mint to have , it should be up to the states if they want people from other states carrying concealed weapons
in my opinion everyone in america and in every state no matter what race or country he comes from should be allowed to carry machine guns, pistols of all kind - even anti tank weapons should be allowed. and why THE HELL NOT! dump ass democrats. responsible citizens can handle this. i want to go out in LA and if i want i should be allowed to mount a gatling on my dodge ram. it makes me feel so much safer.
Sine when did the position of president become godlike, a man is a man and its funny how We the People are the ones fighting for our rights-when thats the presidents job- but yet the president has people protect him. If he was doing a good job that he could be proud of he has nothing to fear, but when he is disliked because hes doing a bad job all of a sudden people with guns are bad. the govt confuses me!
I think banning firearms in any place is wrong. Schools, bars, national parks, etc. You have a right to protect yourself. Until the government checks EVERYONE at the door how can they expect someone who is already banned from carrying, is doing so not carry in a banned place? A criminal does not say, hey its illegal to have a firearm here.
I think the job of the government is not to make 10,000 laws to cover every situation. Americans need to have common sense. Bring a gun anywhere near the president, and be aware the secret service has a nice bead on you. One wrong move, and yes, you will be shot.
Since we have a basically uncivilized nation-- yes, keep guns away from elected officials. I despise Republicans, but after what happened to Reagan-- should the question of guns near the Commander in Chief even be raised? What would be the point of carrying in that location anyway? Clinton visited an academic place where I was teaching-- I stayed home. Snipers I don't need. What if they get nervous? Don't need another Waco. I like this prez. He didn't create this mess. Keep him safe.
Regarding TN carry in "bars", the bill was written to eliminate the law banning CCW in restaurants that also serve alcohol and not just bars as is ALWAYS stated. It is still illegal to consume alcohol while carrying a firearm. This is not the wild west as some like to quote endlessly. I like to go to Beale Street to enjoy the food and atmosphere. Once on Beale most of us feel safe, it is just getting there that is scary. Please use your brain to decipher fact from fiction.
Whereas I wouldn't be so bold to carry an AR anywhere on a public street, it should not be illegal to do so. I stay armed anywhere where it is legal, and I stay clear of "gun free zones". Those zones only unarm law abiding citizens who are no threat in the first place, the criminals will always have thier guns, they are criminals! The President has armed guards to protect him, and I will arm myself to protect me. If it's legal, it shouldn't change because you don't like it.
I have a very strong stance when our rights and freedoms are jeopardized. I did not enlist and serve my country so I could be told that the gun i purchased legally and carry concealed legally cannot be carried because the president is around.
There should never be a law that forces you to un-arm yourself with x amount of feet from the President.
It would take a nut job to think that enforcing a law like that would somehow set up some retarded Gungan style force field from Star Wars around the president making if impossible for anyone to get near him with a gun.
If someone wants to walk up to him with a gun and shoot him, they would just walk up to him and shoot him and more likely than NOT he wouldn't be lawful open-carrier.
I honestly agree but there is a lot of misinformation going around and guns + stupidity is never a good thing. I think we should understand the risk that we face allowing armed misinformed CIVILIANS near the president. It's just too risky
The president is still a person, and I don't belaive anybody should give up thir consitutional right to defend themselves for him. If I where the president, I'de be happy I had civilians watching my back in a high risk area. If somebody was gunna shoot the president, I doubt he'd have a permit anyways, or be showing off the fact that he had it. I think it's a good idea and a right to carry guns whereever we feel necesary to defend ourselves, our family, others, and if nead be, the President.
Concealed carry permit holders might actually be useful. I'm sure if a nutjob wanted to shoot at a public official, he would think twice about it if lawful gun owners might be in the crowd. I'm sure a CCW holder could've got John Hinkley Jr. before the Secret Service could unfold the stocks on their UZIs.
I think people should be allowed to carry guns if the guns are legally owned and concealed. I can't say that guns should be carried openly, like AR-15s on shoulders. It sends the wrong message. Gun owners shouldn't be painted as wild and crazy "militants" or anything. Carrying carbines and shotguns would send that message.
"Should gun be aloud to be carried around the president?" you ask. Well, I have to admit that the Sewcret Service does take weapons seriously beyond imaginable, but to answer the question, I believe that if the President is in town, no one within at least 1 mile, of thew President, should be able to carry a firearm. But if caught in a state where guns are aloud to be concealed, no charges should be filed.
The President, nor the Secret Service have any implied or express right to do that in any way, shape, or form. It would not only be illegal, it would be unconstitutional.
Should the right to keep and bear arms be suspended around the president? Should freedom of religion? Should protection from illegal search and seizures? Should there be a bubble around the president in which the right to life, liberty, and happiness cease to be?
It's all equally ridiculous. If someone's going to do something stupid like attempt to assassinate the president, you think he's going to have a permit to carry a pistol, or shoot a rifle from farther away, like most of the others?
Having the guns was a statement and he needs to get it. I personally don't own a gun but like hell should the government tell me what to do with it if I had one.
As long as the people with guns aren't allowed in line of sight/range of the President then let them carry. I'm sure the Secret Service made sure of that in all instances anyway. This is all a bunch of silly drama over nothing.
Safety bubble? Screw that. A person who is not thinking correctly wants to bring a firearm into said safety bubble, they're gonna do it no matter what. Might as well have other armed citizens around to deter them.

"Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said people are entitled to carry weapons outside such events if local laws allow it. "There are laws that govern firearms that are done state or locally," he said. "Those laws don't change when the president comes to your state or locality."
There are two brief points that i would like to make:1.) the security around Pres Obama is the tightest of any other president in living memory.(CNN/ FOX) 2.) Whether the pres shows up or not does not counteract or superceded state laws. In my opinion we have two groups to deal with: people who oppose the pres and the media who oppose the constitution. The pres has to keep in mind and SS already knows this but outside the belt way (Washington and NYC) Americans own and carry guns. It's a fact.
I see no problem with open carry outside a rally where the president mite be. It was done for years, but now the media has convinced the general public guns are bad. Its heart breaking.
I would think if your last name is "Lugar" you'd have no problem with CC reciprocity! The Secret Service carries guns around the president, but they're not thre to protect the crowd of demonstrators. And since many of these demonstrations have turned violent recently, I think we have a right to protect ourselves.
no saftey bubble for obama. hes the worst thing that ever happend to america. almost. legalized abortion was the worst.

As far as carrying a gun around our President -
I think he should be glad Americans are exercising every single one of their rights, especially one so fundamental as our right to bear arms.
The only reason our President would fear an armed American is if he were a tyrant.

Their are already laws about murder, in fact it's a maxim of life going even further back in time in biblical history "Thou shalt not Murder"
