  • I wish we had music like this still. It's all garbage now. I swear.

  • This is music for dorky girl with red hair who like anime.

  • hmm mud bath xD

  • I love this song!!! Plus my parents know your father (back in the day)

  • It's the classic Cosmological Argument, it gets refuted time and time again, and it is well known as being flawed. Preachers have been pulling it for thousands of years.

Here's what you do, you make up a rule (which you shouldn't be able to do without evidence). If I give you the benefit of the doubt to this rule, you proceed to turn around and break your own fucking rule.

Rule: Things need to be created.

You break the rule: God does not.

FLAWED! I say the universe doesn't need be created

  • @conman2317 I think your argument is falling apart... now exactly what do you believe? The universe doesn't need to be created... do you think the scientific community would agree with that statement? Why is this such an emotional issue for you? If you don't believe in God, then so be it... I don't believe in Santa Clause, but I don't need to use vulgar language and make reference to sticking things up my behind in order to consolidate my position - I suspect that you do believe.

  • @birtchfeld1 No it is not, you are not understanding, clearly what I am saying.

    1. you make a rule

    2. you break the rule you just made and expect it to be valid.

What is so hard to understand? if you say things need to be created, then say your god does not, you broke your own rule, and why even go the extra step, just say the universe didn't need creation,.

  • @birtchfeld1 The scientific community doesn't claim to know exactly how the universe came to be, although they have a pretty good understanding based on evidence. Again, this does not mean you can magically say it was god without reason. It's okay to not know everything, We must be patient until we are given the evidence. Now, you are claiming god is the answer without providing evidence. Also pulling the whole cosmological argument when it has been clearly refuted isn't advancing this convo

  • @conman2317 Actually, the scientific community has no idea how'life genesis-ed' (my point by the way); the best and brightest (i.e. Hitchins, Dawkins) fall apart on this and argue as you do ('we don't know yet') - from the perspective of "evidence or nothing, that is a very weak position to defend. Darwin is being abandoned wholesale because of this - new theories portend life transfer from one planet to another, etc. - it still doesn't answer how it began - without evidence, it is faith.

  • @birtchfeld1 Yes and science in no way claims to be 100% accurate about everything, but it self corrects itself over time as new evidence is retrieved.

  • @conman2317 As Desouza corrected Hitchins - the one thing we do have in common is this, we both have to hold to faith concerning the beginning and then end; neither side has imperical, repeatable evidence to demonstrate the genesis of life, and neither of us have been beyond death to know what (if anything) is beyond it. By the way, I can't stand this song (hey - it's just an opinion).

  • @birtchfeld1 I Why are you quote mining? and did you even read my comment attending your question about the difference between faith and reason? Faith is belief without evidence. Reason is using evidence to consider what is true and what is not.

  • Comment removed

  • Incidentally, the same premise holds true for th 'end of life' - a statement of the human being extinguishing and becoming food for roots 6 feet under vs. an eternal spirit existince with or without God is nothing more than a complete exercise in faith either way... since you and I have never been beyond death, we simply and completely 'do not know' - all we can do is believe.

  • i miss this era. so many people were experimenting with so many different things to define a new decade and stray away from the 80s. early to mid nineties was such a awesome timeline. i kinda feel like we'll never reach a period of time like that ever again.

  • Great bass line

  • 17 people just plain can't can't accept that chicks can write and perform cool songs.

  • Great song.

  • Why do retards who can't think for themselves (aka religious fanatics) have to jump on everything? This song has nothing to do with religion. God gave you a brain, retards, please use it.

  • beautiful song and beautiful classy ladie . i like sarah

  • beautiful voice, beautiful woman, beautiful song............Sarah is definitely one of the best

  • I am totally abusing the replay button. And that is the double truth!

  • @MizzIssy Awesome! You must have been a cool little kid to like this kind of music so young

  • @Trund27

Aww, thanks! I guess so - I was 'different' (normal is boring anyways! :-P) that's for sure! haha

  • what a beautiful women. thanks sarah for your beautiful voice

  • I'd fuck er

  • love this song

  • One of the recordings that has had an immediate impact on me. In the same category as Bill Evans' Vanguard Sessions, Heavy Weather, the Metheny Group's white album, Court and Spark and Mingus, Gary Peacock's Tales of Another, almost anything of Peter Gabriel's and Kate Bush's, and Kind of Blue.

  • I have always been faithful to every woman I have ever been with, that being said ,I would pack any womans bags to be with Sarah lol. She is breath taking!!

  • I love the instrumentation in this song. The bass and guitar are in perfect step with one another, each with a distinct part of the tune and complimenting the mood of Sarah's vocals.

  • This song rocks the foundations of mu soul!

  • Oh Holy GOD!! cant anyone just watch a great video on youtube and ENJOY IT!! why does it have to turn into some sorta pissing contest! athiest vs religon..who cares??? Im no one to judge..thats up to god! but if I was to chill out with him. I'd be groovin to this song!!

  • @maniclater Well at least someone didn't mention Justin Bieber...

  • This woman is the epitome of beauty and elegance.

  • @ExploringProphecy Why does it matter? She makes great music.

  • @happyhead64 this song reminds me of wicca, its empowering song

  • @happyhead64 oh, and while I'm here, does such medieval myths need to be repeated in this century? when we have such an amazing understanding of the universe based on science and intelligence rather then dumb founded fairy tales. Religion? since when is religion even relevant in such a time, we are not living in shacks anymore my friend, we are now an advanced civilization with the rational responsibility of honestly understanding how things work. Come on!

  • Goodness... you're infinite and perfectly complete knowledge of how all things work is just astounding; my faith in Jesus collapsed like a house of cards as soon as your overwhelming wisdom convinced me that He is "no longer relevant". While we are at, please explain the geneisi of life... remember, I am not speaking about the evolution of life, but its very origin from supposedly... nothing. Life sprang forth from nothing or it came from something - what did it come from? (pt.1)

  • Spontaneous bio-genesis (i.e. under a haystack... suddenly mice, under a log in a river... suddenly a frog), primordial ooze (statistically speaking, an impossible event... research it)? Science does not have an answer for this question and neither do you. Basically, it takes FAITH to believe in the 'starting point' of life when you don't know how it began... regardless of whether you hold to some type of scientific rationale or to a creator God.

  • @birtchfeld1 What cannot be explained should not be assumed to be a medieval explanation, try again. We do not know for sure (yet) how the universe came into existence. In the stone age, people did not know how rain occurred and lacked an understanding, so they full filled the explanation with X god(s). This is fundamentally wrong and science now covers their asses when it comes to religion, we can say we don't know until evidence is found and we can use the best known explanation.

  • Hebrews 11:1-3 1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

  • @birtchfeld1 Quoting the fairy tale book that I don't take seriously isn't convincing. Faith is belief without evidence, and is both irrational and irresponsible. A mafia boss god like the one you think is real for stupid reasons, who does not provide sufficient evidence for one to believe and expects them to believe or go to hell is an immoral evil disgusting being. I would never worship your space alien, such a nasty being who is intensely immoral. Read your foul piece of garbage bible.

  • @conman2317 Sigh... ok - let's take it point by point - your points, as follows:

1.) "Faith is belief without evidence" - Please explain to me again how the "universe came into existence"? The best you can retort is that science hasn't proven it "yet", but still you believe (i.e. faith) - hmm... sounds like someone is being both "irrational and irresponsible".

2.) The assertion that I believe in God for "stupid reasons" is without "evidence" - you didn't even ask me why I believe.

    Part 1

  • @birtchfeld1 Dude, we already went through this, just because something hasn't been completely understood yet does not mean you can magically fill the answer with god. You really need to look through history, all your arguments have been refuted. You believe in god without evidence, "faith", and go around preaching to people and causing harm to society by poisoning innocent children minds into a cult. You need to consider science and what it has accomplished, and look at religious myth answers.

  • @conman2317 Dude... it looks like the application of two standards (i.e. "I completely trust that science will validate by fact manifestation my predisposed belief even thought it hasn't yet" vs. "I completely trust that God will validate by fact manifestation my predisposed belief even though He hasn't yet"). Your argument has no different merit or ground except for this - faith. Again... how did life spring from non-existence into existence (try answering this time)?

  • @birtchfeld1 No science is the best known method of understanding reality. When you go to the doctor, science is helping you, when you type on your computer, science allows for such an amazing technology. There's no dispute about science, it defines us and our understanding of reality. Your religion is a poisonous lie, a myth, a cult, and you believe it based on NO EVIDENCE and a lack of understanding of how things are, go and research and understand this beautiful world for yourself.

  • @birtchfeld1 How did life spring from non-existence? what are you 5 years old?

    sigh...

Okay, lets assume that life did not spring into existence, what made life? I know what your going to say, GOD, well then how did he spring into existence, and if you say he always existence and is infinite or whatever, why not subtract the useless step of having god and say that the universe always existed in one way or another, and is infinite. You add god to the equation for no reason, your logic is flawed

  • @conman2317 Lett's be absolutely certain on this point... I believe by faith that God 'is' - I freely admit that I do not have all the facts; you on the other hand believe that God 'is not' and that scientific fact is the basis on which you stand - you also admit that you don't know how life began. My point was never to dispute your belief system (hey, your entitled to your opinion - that's all it is), but to demonstrate that you too believe by faith (since you also lack conclusive evidence).

  • @birtchfeld1 Again, you believe in something without rationality, "faith", this is wrong, you must believe things which are true and rational. Society thrives off of intelligence, not ignorance. Science is our best known way of telling what is and is not true, and is the reason why we have medicine, technology, industry, and the amazing life in which we live today, why are you against this? you are against whats helping you, and holding irrational beliefs, why?

  • @birtchfeld1 No I do not believe by faith, i believe by what is provable, testable and achievable anywhere by anyone, this is called reason. I do not choose to believe in your god because no evidence suggests the concept to be the slightest bit true. This is not a belief system or faith, this is reality. You on the other hand are holding a belief without reason or rationality. This is the clear difference that discerns what is belief without evidence, "faith" and reason/rationality.

  • @birtchfeld1 You think that a surgeon at the hospital performs his surgery based on "faith" and not evidence? hmm , no he relies on Science, research, evidence, things that have been proven tested and repeated by more then one person. You are living in the fruits of science right now as you type, yet insist on promoting poisonous brainwashing, "faith" unreasonable belief, you., my friend, need a dose of reality.

  • @conman2317 Man (you included) live by faith everyday... do you put your kids on a school bus, do you put your money in a bank, do you eat out at a restaurant? You hope for the best without knowing (so do doctors... a specialist from Minnesota told my wife and I that he could not guarantee our new born son would survive, and that the cause for his non-breathing was not understood (he survivied by the way) - we were all hoping for his survivla (doctor included).

  • @birtchfeld1 I have the reason of expectation, probability, and trust in other people. This is not the same as faith. I know that from the history and statistics, as well as the enforced laws that enable school buses to function properly and safely, that it is reasonable to put my kid on a school bus knowing that probably (a measurable statistic) that my kid will be safe, science and evidence are what made the school bus mechanically run. Faith is me jumping off a bridge thinking ill survive.

  • @conman2317 By the way, I am a 6 Sigma Green Belt and/or a statistics expert - I live and die in the plastics business by data, facts, and conclusions; now try to quantify, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, the Tutsi regime, rape, murder, child abuse, and so on... science frames data and information into conclusions (again... data and information)... send it the other way, let's quantify love, compassion, mercy, etc...

  • @birtchfeld1 Okay, a lot of things can be measured and have statistics, as well as evidence based understandings. The human mind and experience are very interesting subjects, neuroscience is getting more advanced every year. You should read about our understanding of things like love, compassion, mercy, t and the human experience in general. There can be reason and evidence based understanding of any aspect of our lives, go to your local university and pick up a book.

  • @birtchfeld1 I have just cause to put my kid under the medical care of a well trained physician because I know that his practice is well researched and supported by evidence and the scientific method. I'd rather that then put my faith (belief without evidence), in a priest who prays my kid will get better, even though there isn't any evidence suggesting that the prayer will do anything. faith is belief without evidence, where as putting trust in rational evidence based things is totally differen

  • @conman2317 This debate is getting silly - I would bring my sick child to a doctor before a priest as well; I would also pray that God would bless the doctor with skill and wisdom to correctly diagnose and treat my child. Science isn't the problem, neither is God - it's polarized perspectives that degenerate into vulgaraties and insults - you are finite like everyone else and doing your best to grope forward in this world - we all are; stop pretending you have it figured out - you don't.

  • @birtchfeld1 Good I've finally got some reason out of you. Of course you would bring your kid to a doctor and not a priest, this is not faith, this is reason guiding you. Why use science and reason in one situation, and then completely go to faith for another? religion is a problem, it is a delusion that can cause serious harm in society., look at society's who are heavily indoctrinated? for instance iraq, people are killing over religion, because they are taking things on faith.

  • @conman2317 And... if your sailboat sunk in the Pacific, your crewmates floated away with the tide, the sun was beginning to set, and some 100 yards off a very large fin surfaced and turned toward you... I suspect you would not be groping for data and facts.

  • @birtchfeld1 Well, actually I would try my best to increase my chances of survival. This is will laying still a motionless would help, as sharks have been documented to go after moving prey, as well as wounded animals who are dispelling blood. So I would try to cover up a wound if I had one. Science would guide me into increasing my chances of survival.

It's better then sitting their praying while I'm being eating alive. When there's no evidence that prayer could help.

  • @conman2317 Funny... and theoretical at best - you would cry out to God.

  • @birtchfeld1 Seriously? crying out to a magical space alien wouldn't help any. Why not try your best to increase your chances of survival, do you want to die? because you'd preddy much be asking for it.

  • @birtchfeld1 Even using common sense could help you out, the last thing you wanna do is rely on "faith" (belief without evidence) to keep you alive,

you are essentially taking your kid to that priest instead of the doctor.

  • @birtchfeld1 Common, I thought, considering your in the business management sector, that you yourself would have common sense.

  • @birtchfeld1 I could use information that I have read in the passed and scientific research done on sharks, to prevent an attack, or perhaps hold some defense against the shark, such as poking its eyes.

  • @birtchfeld1 Also tests done, and research athletes have done to better conserve energy whilst swimming long distances, as to get to shore that's 100 yards off safely/

  • @birtchfeld1 And hey who said I have things figured out? I'm just living by reason and do not believe it when someone tells me that there's a magic dragon at the bottom of the sea, and if they are persistent, i will ask them for evidence.

  • @conman2317

3.) God does not provide "sufficient evidence" for them to believe (kind of like your 'beginning of the universe' theory); I've dealt with hundreds upon hundreds of your type - lot's to say about God and His word, yet you have never read his word (and please spare me the lie that you have - you haven't and you know it). Those who are truly convinced of their beliefs have taken the time to study contra-beliefs... just to be sure - I suspect you have not.

    part 2

  • @conman2317

4.) "Believe of go to hell"... God will do what all good judges do, uphold law. Let's skip the laws that pertain to man's responsibility to God and go right to a few of His laws on man's responsibility to each other:

    - Have you ever lied (yes you have - we all have)?

    - Have you ever stolen (yes you have - we all have)?

Why bother going on... that makes you and I (and everyone) guilty of being lieing theives - guilty.

    Part 3

  • @conman2317

A rapist cannot stand in court and say 'other people do it', or 'I won't do it again' - once a person rapes, they are always guilty of having committed rape; God holds us to the same standard we hold ourselves to.

5.) "Space alien", "nasty being", "intensely immoral", "foul piece of garbage" - now you are just plain being rude and ignorant; at first, I thought you were going to defend your position with some level of dignity (it's how you came off at first).

    Part 4

  • @birtchfeld1 I do not believe in your god, sorry, not happening, until you can prove it with substantial evidence. Going on about society's morality doesn't accomplish anything. If you need the threat of hell to behave morally, I question your morality. I have every right to bash your religion because it is disgusting, immoral, and yes, the bible is a foul piece of garbage, in fact I went to the novelty store and bought the bible in toilet paper form, so I can wipe my ass with it.

  • @conman2317 Let the record stand... you better be right - if you are, you will go six feet under and be food for the trees, if not, you will stand before your creator who will not be amused by your arrogance.

    Matthew 22:13

Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

  • @conman2317

    Finally, the deal is this...

God knows about your sinful nature, and mine, and everyones'... He also knows we cannot make ourselves innocent of our sins and transgressions - thus He came to us as a man (like us), lived a sinless life, and earned the right to take the judgement for our sins - if, and only if we ask Him to. What a deal! complete forgiveness and His righteousness for the asking... only an angry fool would say no.

  • @ExploringProphecy are you serious? leave religion out of this...just enjoy the beautiful music, please.

  • @arwen54 right on The natives were doing just fine without it till we whitemen showed up to screw things up

  • @recontigulas Hey as long as we respect and do not hurt each other, does it really matter!!!!!. Enjoy life. Its here once......StevieR

  • Is it just me.. Or is Sarah McLachlan THE most beautiful singer in the world?

  • @recontigulas oh ok fine i misunderstood your comment. did it even have anything to do with the vid? and atheists rule

  • @recontigulas you said that Being humanist doesn't make you an atheist. you're implying that being humanist is good, and being atheist is bad. you're discriminating against atheists.

  • @recontigulas Are you saying being atheist is wrong? Let me tell you this: Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime; give a man religion and he will die praying for a fish.

  • I'll listen to Solace and Fumbling Towards Ecstasy albums till I die!

  • that musta been an awful shoot to be covered in mud

  • My mind is odd...but I'd swear this song fits Inferno and Red Alert very well.

  • I imagine a sudden mystic portal materializing, a doorway to Heaven, too bright to look at, blazing with Divine fire, terrible and beautiful - and with all my heart I sprint toward it and hurl myself in -- Guess I kinda feel the same way about Sarah -

  • beautiful

  • @rustyjason I am white too you dumbass. That means your insult had no effect whatsoever. Fucktard again?

  • @thegenie144 Kid, you listen to Justin Bieber and Jonas Brothers. You're not entitled to an opinion because you were born musically challenged.

  • @FuckingStanz Is that the only thing you could come out with? Justin Bieber?

  • @thegenie144 You have terrible taste in music, period. Commercialized bullshit

  • This video proves that Sarah is a reptilian and a hybrid waiting to get her commands from the NWO.

  • how can anybody be on fire while lying in the mud? I know Ms Mclachlan is from the mud tribe from the fire land and the book from Tolstoi "war and peace" who with a UFO lands suddenly in Canada where she starts singing with great success.

  • The Holy Spirit has been talking to me about Fire and walking into the fire instead of dancing around it. He led me to this video and confirmed he wants us christians to start doing what Jesus did, not just talking about it. Thats walking into the fire. Healing the sick, saving the lost. Miracles. Taking the HEAT for Jesus. Are you carrying the fire?

  • Well you are either mentally ill or a troll.

  • When this song first came out, I hated her voice. Now, she's my favorite female artist, and this song is one of my favourites.

  • I´ve heard this track first maybe 20 years ago in an Video from Burton Snowboards and since then it was in my head ....

  • alot of christian fanatics say this song has Satanic lyrics in it but they need to kiss the worlds ass and Shut the fuck up

  • "This video many multiple meanings and layers of symbolism. For instance, Sarah covered in mud represents cloaking herself from the Predator's infrared vision."

    - antonooooo

  • @eenmarris GET TO DA CHOPPA LOL

  • This is the way to be naked without being skanky or overly sexual

  • @Laughinopoulous

Then what the hell's the point?

  • @Laughinopoulous what~!!??? ... and 31 people like such an arbitrary comment. The male gender of the species are attracted to all appealing females, whatever you wear only celebrates different methods of attracting the other sex for the soul purpose of reproduction.

"Skanky and overly sexual" ??? oh come on... entertain us a little more then that.

  • Sarah is a musical goddess. Every important event in my life has been marked by her music.

  • 'into the fire' could be the title of freddy krueger's autobiography

  • She's the greatest woman signer of the world

  • great musician love her music

  • this sounds like the type of music you should/would listen to WHEN intoxicated

  • She looks like the girl from Faun

  • If someone doesn't willfully conform to a label then the rest is assumption.

    What is an "atheist"?

  • @xpandion99 Yeah, word's just categorize everything, that's what's wrong with the world. We should just use telepathy.

  • i love all sara's songs . shes got the best voice ive ever heard. but this song has always been my favorite of hers! its just amazing it gives me chills and i adore the music video. shes a powerful singer

  • How does milk and honey get you intoxicated.

  • @bashafacin Heaven is referred to as the land of Milk and Honey, so I think that's what she may have meant. The narrator of the song is having a "heavenly" experience.

  • @LadyOlivia35 your certainly right about the land of milk and honey means a heavenly experience!

  • @bashafacin Us Brits used to make mead from honey, and that would get you off your face.

  • @KingofRoath Yes sir that would get me Intoxicated.

  • this singer is a goddess! All her songs rock!

  • my GAWD what a lyric!!!

  • MARAVILLOSA!!!!!!

  • muy buena cancion de los 90as exelente bye saludos de lima peru

  • I love her music

  • This is 1 of the songs from her I REALLY LIKE!

  • Ya this is one of my favourites by her

  • @weirdscience85: I wholeheartedly agree!

  • Her voice at 1:46 is amazing.

  • I am 37. Vox started it for me in the late 80's when I would go to the Clubs. They always played it. It made me feel so good. This was after that.......and then fumbling towards ecstasy in the early to mid 90's with Possesion. She has had such a great career and hearing her at the 2010 Olympics she is still so amazing!! Go Sarah.........we are ready for another new album!! Its a new Decade lady!!

  • This is my first absolute fave by Sarah. It stands up to the test of time, in my opinion. I can still listen to this and never get tired of it!

  • @Castile100 me too. I faved it on Youtube

  • She is a folktale, Jazz singer but most of her songs is know for folktaling. I remember her when i was little and about probably six or seven years ago i started listening to her again when one of her songs came on and i got the memory bug and started listening to all the songs she made even when i was younger i remember making tapes with her songs on them. I'm 21 now but she is one of my favorite singers of all time.

  • I'm 13 and Sarah Mclachlan is one of my favorite signer since i'm little. I bought her recent cd '' Closer the best of Sarah Mclachlan'' . I want a new cd with all new song on it, like she did with Afterglow. ♥

  • what genre is this musi?? pop??? :o

  • I think she's a humanist. However, I did hear her doing a Christmas carol on the radio the other day.

  • I just "rediscovered" this song after finding a cassette of music I recorded off the radio back in 92! Wow, what a great song.

  • still great

  • I LOVE LOVE this song AND video. Both are depicting and displaying revitalization of mind and body...and I LOVE THAT! Everybody could use a little bit of renewal now and again. Peace.

  • whats the meaning behind this song ?

  • I was in love with this song when i was 6 or a bit older

  • My mom used to play sarah mclachlan for me when I was a kid. It's pretty cool to listen to her all these years later. It's the same with peter gabriel, and the eurythmics, and enigma.

I'm probably going to play this kind of music for my kids. It's so peaceful

  • I love this song. The 1st one that I ever heard Ms. mcLachlan play, one that's clearly about self-empowerment, not damnation. Thank you, Sarah, for making the world a more enchanting place ~ (•8-D

  • Agreed! Let me tell you though, if you need a swift kick in the.....knees......listen to Henry Rollins-Low Self Opinion. WOW! I finally realized the most disgusting self destructive behavior is self pity P E R I O D.

  • I hit the wrong button!! Sorry! LOL

  • That's weird...her music actuall makes me feel more Christian...especially Surfacing

  • We're not Jesus freaks up here in Canada...

  • Preach on! Wondering why I left...

  • @treetri88 Yes you are. Some Canadians I have met are just as freaked out about it as the worst Yanks.

  • @treetri88 damn that was harsh

  • @treetri88 You don't speak for all of us heathen

  • is this a remake of the video ?? i couldve sworn this is....

  • Hate the video. Love the song.

  • Her music is spiritual but as far as I know she's humanist. It's weird an atheists music can make someone think about spirituality, but I dunno, maybe she was still searching in the early days, those are my favorite songs. Also magazines always say she is anti-religion but I would rather ask her what she thinks.
