  • i was there, upstairs and this poor drummer was fuckin nuts.....unbelievable to witness how hard he was working.

  • I love the crash like two stories up. Why? that seems like quite a reach when playing such technical stuff

  • this band. the best.

    john stanier. the best.

they also have the nicest taste in equip. as well. how bad do i want tyondai's jazz master? the world may never know.

as soon as this song ended i bet john went to go pound some Heineken. seen them thrice and hes always drinkin that shit.

  • this was in 2007? i just saw them last month. they are definitely better performers now. much more confident with their performance and sound

  • the drummer for battles is one of the most consistant, rhythumic, under-estimated drummers ever!

he has STAMINA! and to stay on time for that long :O

  • John Stanier is a BEAST. One of my all-time favorites from Helmet to Tomahawk to now Battles. I'm sure he has been in other amazing projects as well that I just don't know of.

  • u are right. he does have insane amounts of stamina...

  • I hear you can buy stamina in powder form though.

  • just that first hi hat part is rediculus to do for most.

  • @withghuck

    right !

this drummer is the ex-drummer of HELMET

  • I don't see why the drummer (who's amazing, by the way) sets the cymbal so high.

  • becouse it looks really cool! duh ;P

  • i heard it was in an interview that so he doesn't over use crash.

  • also as a parody of the drummer from don cab's snare, which is set almost touching the ground

  • it's more a problem with the delay thing on the guitar than a matter of knowing how to keep time, those effect pedals can be quite hard to synch to

  • loops are dangerous, i had this same trouble doing loops to a metronome. it sounds on beat, i set it and leave it be, then 12 measures later it'll slip off slightly and then eventually completely off beat

  • Man that looks like a great room... I'd love the spend some time living in Vancouver if I could.

  • It *was* a great room. It was closed due to zoning issues. Vancouver is a great city, the mountains and the ocean in your backyard but if music is your thing you might like Seattle more. Bands of Battles caliber only come to Vancouver once every blue moon.

  • oh really? you haven't? maybe pick up don caballero's "aerican don" you'll notice ian does a bit more elaborate playing.

  • Stanier!

  • if you notice, they have a struggle playing this song in a lot of videos.

  • Im not surprised, i've never heard more technically difficult music.

  • yeah, they're rushing the hell out of it

  • nice mess up at the beggining...but good performance

  • "everything this band does is interesting but painful to listen to at times. I get the art rock kinda but its more obnoxious then as cool as every hypes this band up to be. "

    Wrong.

  • ""everything this band does is interesting but painful to listen to at times. I get the art rock kinda but its more obnoxious then as cool as every hypes this band up to be. "

    Wrong."

    Correct

  • idiot

  • That drummer isn't human.

  • haha so true,such a machine

  • Excelent video of this wonderful song! The sound of the vid is very clear too.

What a great band to see live!!!

  • its like they are preparing for WAR! Signals to his buddy...1...2...3....taps keyboard to signal the start of it
