pine and sider are really bad for piggys my friends piggy ate some pine and it died with in a couple of hours and she thinks it was the pine

Pine is fine (as long as its not untreated, but the ones you buy in pet stores are treated) for a small animals, as is aspen and recycled products. The only one you need to avoid is Cedar. And its not eating the cedar which is bad, the oils mix with urine and cause breathing problems.

Aspen has lots of oils that aren't good for sensitive piggie skin or lungs. I got my information from a book and the fact that my friend's pig got a respiratory infection from it.

Everyone has their opinions on bedding. If you listened to what everyone says about what's good and bad, there wouldn't be a "safe" bedding. So whatever works for you, I guess. I wouldn't want my pigs getting sick, so I don't use aspen.
